Based on real-life events, 9th Company recounts a year in the shared lives of a group of young soldiers drafted to serve in Afghanistan during the final year of Soviet conflict. It is a poignant story of the unit's dedication to each during their valiant defense of Height 3234...a futile battle that ravaged their forgotten company, who fought on, unaware that the war had ended.

  • A solid foreign film (Russian with English subtitles) based of actual events during the closing stages of the Soviet conflict in Afghanistan. It's not often in Western culture that you get to see war films from a different country's perspective. The story line flowed well from training & the forging of bonds right through to the final stages. The fight scenes were realistic until the point they used special effects, but if you can get past that then I think it's a worthwhile film to watch.

  • carp i hate subtitles

  • Excellent war movie, right up there with Saving Private Ryan. Loved it!

  • Based on a true story about young Soviet Army recruits stuck in the bloody war in Afghanistan, that was started by politicians.Good movie let down by unrealistic battle scenes
