  • Loved the book, embarrassed by the film. It doesn't do it justice - bad make up, hammy acting, changing details, speeding up parts in what's supposed to be an epic love story sweeping an entire lifetime. It just isn't as majestic as the novel.

  • I wanted to like this more than I did. Bardem is wonderful but the accents are difficult to pick up and there is some very bad acting from John Leguizamo (of all people) The photography and music are good but, as mentioned before, some of the age make up is poor... and the leading lady is miscast. The guy who plays the young Javier Bardem is very good but is a laughable match for Bardem. Let's face it who would match that unique head.. Give it a go..you may like it.

  • Javier Bardem is wonderful. This is truly a great piece of film history. The acting, locations, direction, music. It's all very special.

  • I was expecting much less after reading the reviews. I liked seeing some Colombian actors and listening to the Colombian music, and that at least some of it was filmed in Cartagena. I think it was a good effort considering how difficult it must be to adapt Gabriel Garcia Marquez' books to films

  • Slow going and a disappointment
