Nobody used to notice Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington), but when his boss suddenly dies, Frank exploits the opening in the power structure to build his own empire and create his own version of the American Dream in the Harlem of the 1970s. Through ingenuity and a strict business ethic, he comes to rule the inner-city drug trade. Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) is an outcast cop close enough to the streets to feel a shift of control in the drug underworld. Roberts believes someone is climbing the rungs above the known Mafia families and starts to suspect that a new power player has come from nowhere to dominate the scene.

  • Denzel Washington just looks far too mucj like a nice guy to be a villain. I was bored with this story, I'm afraid and didn't bother watching till the end

  • Very informative and action packed

  • A very good movie, which I didn't know was based on a true story. Denzel Washington brilliant as usual, does this bloke ever put in a bad performance

  • I really enjoyed this movie based on a true story.

  • A love and cold war spy story. Good acting. Filmed in black and white consistent with the era of the story--Berlin, 1940's, just after World War 2, a city occupied by four powers, bombed out building everywhere. The story and cinematography are inspired by the classic 5 star movie Casablanca, but it is a weak in comparison.
