Not bad. Wag the Dog is better. This one's not really a comedy and suffers from that (it's played too straight IMO).

Lots of fun: a bit schmaltzy, but a great cast (love Bill Nighy!).

This movie starts out quite strangely (to me, anyway), with a collection of slightly odd people, but develops into a whimiscal, warm story in that quirky-small-town vein where you end up with a lot of fondness for the characters. The Dogme style is a little disorienting at first, but ends up being quite successful.

Performances from Glenn Close and John Malkovich were superb.

Excellent documentary - McNamara is as sharp as a razor. Although he refrains from directly commenting about current world events, clearly his observations are meant to be general enough to still be relevant.

Great movie, only marred by the final 10mins or so, which seem unnecessary and overly sentimental.

My partner is more of an anime fan than I am, so he liked this more than I did. It was kind of cute, but I just could not engage with it very much.

I really enjoyed this movie - sure, nothing much actually *happened* but the themes of loneliness and isolation were beautifully evoked through the "strangers in a strange city" idea. Bill Murray was great in his role, beautifully understated. In fact the whole movie showed great restraint in exploring its ideas - no action, little sex - but through strong empathetic characters managed to engage the viewer.

It's hard to see how the Redux version adds much other than screen time to the original. It now seems overblown, over-long and self-indulgent. It's still a pretty good movie, with some excellent scenes and cameos (e.g. Robert Duvall).
