A depressing, slow movie about a neurotic woman with extremely low self esteem. She engages in sexually degrading encounters with strangers to confirm her low self image. A waste of time. And if the director thinks that this film "empowers" women, she is in dire need of therapy!

A very interesting film about a very difficult historical time and place. Well acted, and thought provoking - it prompted me to do Google and Wikipedia searches afterwards to find out more about the characters (primarily the philosopher Hypatia, played by Rachel Weisz).
