Great cast in an okay movie. Similar to 'The Untouchables' but not as good. Sean Penn isn't DeNiro.

I've seen non-musical film versions of this story so I thought I'd give this one a go. I don't mind people bursting into song in a movie but the constant sing-talking in this drove me absolutely nuts.

I could have just listened to this with my eyes closed and not missed anything because it's pretty much just a lot of conversations strung together. A socio-political commentary wrapped in a gangster movie where the actors must have been paid per F-word. I like Brad Pitt but this movie just didn't interest me.

It's 'The Fast and the Furious' on pushbikes.

Back in the 80s when the imminent threat of the 'Red' menace was causing justifiable paranoia the Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen version of this movie made sense. This remake just didn't seem credible even with the updating to a modern era communist power, probably because paranoia these days is firmly planted in the Middle-East.

Clint Eastwood does old and crusty so well. Amy Adams is great in everything. Even Timberlake was good in this. And you don't need to know a lot about baseball to follow the story.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Based on the long-running UK comic strip. Okay but nothing special.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
People who gave this any less than four stars obviously don't get Wes Anderson and probably haven't seen any of his other films. Watch Fantastic Mr Fox and then watch this and you'll be with it.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
This is a good example of a "name" director having money thrown at him by Hollywood to make whatever rubbish he likes.

The trailer looked interesting enough for me to get this. The idea that horror movies are really hidden camera reality shows that provide human sacrifices for ancient gods is pretty clever.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
A movie about birdwatching may not be your cup of tea but this was one of those nice movies where everybody in it, even in the minor roles, is someone you know from something else. A good life-lesson about priorities, too.

As a adult who is familiar with Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman and The Mummy I appreciated this story. But I had no intention of showing it to my kids. It's more for teenagers or adults who like animation. Adam Sandler's Dracula voice got a little tiring after awhile too.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Expendables I plus Van Damme plus Chuck Norris plus larger roles for Bruce and Arnie equals Expendables II. Take it or leave it. And Stallone would be more convincing in a potential romantic situation if they cast a woman closer to his age.

An incredible true story that deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Alan Arkin is awesome. Make sure to watch the special feature to hear from the real people involved.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
Sometimes you need a movie to just be light and entertaining and this one qualifies. Don't expect "film" and enjoy this movie for what it is.

I watched this with my four year-old son and he wasn't impressed. It's about a Scottish princess having issues with her mother so it kinda wasn't aimed at his demographic. Visually impressive with charming characters so it's worth a look.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
This is a Shakespeare conspiracy theory movie and you have to keep that fact in mind because it's very convincing. A great cast in a great period drama despite the plot jumping back and forth in time and being a little hard to keep up with.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Excellent new version of the story with lots of nice little nods to the original. It had been so long since I had seen the Arnie version but as I watched this the plot came back to me. Kate Beckinsale is awesome in this. Buying it.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Not the best Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie but it was okay. The trailer made it seem like more of a comedy but it was quite dark and I didn't like the ending. Great soundtrack though. And I am the only one who's noticed that Eva Green is being cast as a witch quite a lot these days?
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Keira Knightly is very pretty. That's a fact. Just don't expect to see her much in this. Stock-standard British gangster movie held up by a good cast. The F-word and the C-word were used far too much though.

Waited nearly a year for this and it was worth it. A wonderful story. It features a mix of languages so be prepared for subtitles, though there are good chunks of English in there.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
The best version of the classic story I've seen, less Disney and more Lord of the Rings. Kristen Stewart is lovely as Snow White. Chris Hemsworth plays a muddier version of Thor. Charlize Theron manages to be beautiful and ugly at the same time. And the familiar faces cast as the dwarves were a wonderful surprise for me.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
A hard one to review. It has the look of a modern movie but it feels like an 80s movie. And I think they might have been trying to make a political statement about America in there somewhere.

Expected this to be an epic but it wasn't. It was visually stunning but yawningly slow. Philosophy is okay in sci-fi but only if it's well balanced with action and suspense. This one is drearily philosophical. Go rent Alien again. Or even Avatar (cringe).
(Maybe) - review by Paul
Johnny Depp Tim Burton = Excellent. Johnny Depp Pirates = Awesome. Johnny Depp as an everyday bloke = not so good. Anybody could have played this part. Not that interesting.

The fourth instalment of a franchise so watch the others first. One star for a vampires versus werewolves movie that isn't Twilight. Two stars for Kate Beckinsale.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Another classic from the people who brought us Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. Brilliant all-round cast led by by Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman and David Tennant.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Ten years between MIB2 and MIB3 was too long. This was great fun. Josh Brolin is awesome as 60s 'K'. Going to have to watch the others again now.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Standard 'small group of survivors fight back against overwhelming alien invasion force' movie. Predictable plot but some cool special effects.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
You really don't need me to review this because you're only going to rent it if you've seen the first three anyway. More of the same but it's worth watching just to see Stifler get revenge on Finch.

I saw the trailer for this on another DVD and thought my wife would enjoy it so I rented it for her. She has watched it twice and has requested her own for Christmas. In her words, "It's the ultimate chick-flick." She gives it five stars.

First: Don't be put off by all the people who gave this a bad review because it was subtitled, they obviously didn't select the Set Up option on the DVD Menu which enables you to change to an English voice dub. Second: This is a mocumentary not a standard movie, so appreciate the subtle tongue-in-cheek humour and the steady pacing of the story. I've had this at #1 on my Queue for 8 months and it was well worth the wait. Clever, quirky and cool.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
I had low expectations for this since it was based on a board game but it actually turned out to be a pretty decent 'repel the alien invaders' movie. Now they just need to do Monopoly as a movie, where aliens are buying up the real estate around London (smirk!).
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Still not sure how I feel about my all-time favourite Dr Seuss story being expanded into a musical romantic comedy but it was nice to see the Lorax's world come to life. My 4 year-old really loved it though, even though he constantly questioned stuff that wasn't in the book.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Never judge a DVD by it's cover. This looks much more exciting than it is, and the impressive list of co-stars get minimal screen time. And the leading lady looks a little like Ashton Kutcher (shudder).
(Don't bother!) - review by Paul
It's an action-comedy but it's also a chick-flick. A good date movie.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Some very clever observatonal humour but it was overwhelmed by the constant sexual trash-talk. Some fun moments though. Watch it and enjoy it but don't expect too much from it or the inevitable sequel.

Don't be caught by surprise, this is proper Shakespeare in Shakespearean English, so if you can't handle it don't rent it and you won't be disappointed. I've never read this play or seen it performed but good old Shakespeare never lets me down. This film very successfully dresses up ancient Roman political and military elements in modern-day clothing. The cast is superb.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Very cool sci-fi premise. Bonnie and Clyde with Robin Hood's mission. Not bad.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
More magic from Japan's Studio Ghibli. A nice story for all the family.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
With such a supurb cast I should have enjoyed this more but I found it exceedingly dull.
(Maybe) - review by Paul
A movie starring two kids that isn't a kid's movie. No robots, no magic, just a heartwarming story about the early days of film. Don't watch it with your kids, watch it with your parents.

I usually don't enjoy Australian movies but this one charmed me.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Really enjoyed it. I grew up with the books and then the animated tv series so it was very cool to see the familiar characters brought to life with CGI and rendered realistically. Spielberg and Jackson are to be congratulated. And Nick Frost and Simon Pegg as Thomson and Thompson was a nice touch. I'll be back for the next one.

This is not a Cop movie, it's a Christian movie. AND IT'S BRILLIANT! One for the Dads.

I really enjoyed this movie, and I'll enjoy it again with my sons when they are old enough to watch it.

This latest Greek saga has the drama of TROY, the mythology of CLASH OF THE TITANS and the gruesome action of 300. But even with elements of all three it still wasn't as good as them. Henry Cavill is still a relative unknown this side of next year's appearance as Superman. John Hurt in the cast adds credibility but otherwise it's badly in need of star-power. And no, Mickey Rourke doesn't count! Not a bad movie but I won't be rushing out to buy a copy for my DVD library.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Standard courtroom drama but there have been plenty better than this. Good supporting cast. Predictable story. I had to put the subtitles on because everybody, especially Matthew McConaughey, insisted on mumbling/whispering for the whole movie and I couldn't follow.
(Maybe) - review by Paul
Okay but they've taken way to many liberties with the original story. The actors playing the musketeers were good but everyone else was acting like they were in a West End pantomime. The Disney version with Chris O'Donell and Kiefer Sutherland is still fondly remembered.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Never seen the original, I got this to see former Doctor Who David Tennant spread his acting wings. He was suitably Tennantish so I was happy. As for vampires...whatever. Is anyone even scared of them anymore. It's not exposure to sunlight that will eventually kill vampires, it's over-exposure to the consuming public in movies, television and junk young adult novels.

I've watched a lot of anime and this series is one of the best I've seen. If you're an anime fan then I highly recommend Xam'd. I hope Quickflix gets Collection 2 so I can watch the rest of it.

To everyone who has called this a remake of the Arnie movies, it's not. This is a new movie based on the stories of Robert E. Howard. Read a book! The end credits even say "Based on the character of Conan as originally created by Robert E. Howard." And stop looking at the Arnie movies through your nostalgia goggles. They really weren't that good. As for this new film version I really liked the scope. Conan's world seemed so much larger and its people much more diverse. It was a good sword-swinging action romp, but it added nothing to what we've already seen of late. Rent 'Clash of the Titans' instead.

Couldn't stop laughing. Really enjoyed it.

If you liked 'Cars' you'll LOVE 'Cars 2'. This time Lightning McQueen takes a backseat to his towtruck friend Mater. Loads of great action sequences. There's even a new Toy Story short which takes place after the events of 'Toy Story 3'.

Don't be caught by surprise, this is proper Shakespeare in Shakespearean English, so if you can't handle it don't rent it and you won't be disappointed. I love Shakespeare and I thought this interpretation of The Tempest was fantastic. Great cast working under a passionate director.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Starts out as a kid's movie about moving to a new town. Then it turns into a decent supernatural thriller which is way too scary for kids. Then it turns into a kid's movie about facing your fears. If you're attracted to this because it's by the director of 'Gremlins' just go and watch the gremlins again and you'll have much more fun.

Standard 'pretty young things getting stabbed' movie. It follows the established franchise formula and is therefore quite predictable. And I really miss Courtney Cox's original face.

This is one of those series that transcends genres. On one hand it's a quirky British situation comedy about four people sharing a house, but on the other hand it's a standard vampire show with werewolves and ghosts thrown in for good measure. Somehow it works. Great characters and compelling stories. Each series is only around eight episodes so check it out.

This movie perfectly personifies why blokes don't like chick flicks. Don't let her make you watch it. Run my brothers, run! Kate Hudson is obnoxious and looks ten years older than the other characters who she is supposed to be the same age as.
(Don't bother!) - review by Paul
Interesting premise, but the script was too small. I expected that a guy with limitless potential wouldn't be so limited in his choices. Cooper was good. DeNiro was wasted.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Very cute. I appreciated all the Shakespeare in-jokes and background references. Excellent British cast.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Excellent. The time travel aspect made an otherwise dreary romance movie interesting. Clever writing worthy of the current series of Doctor Who.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
For some reason this reminded me of one of those old Mel Brooks movies like 'Blazing Saddles' or 'Spaceballs' or 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights'. But where those movies used clever inuendo, this one uses in-your-face vulgarity which sadly seems to have become the standard for humour these days. One star for the movie and one star because Natalie Portman is pretty.
(Maybe) - review by Paul
Nice, but lacking the charm of the first one which was much better.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Best of the series. Great fun.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Quite entertaining. Loved all the sci-fi references, especially how they used the Mos Eisley Cantina music from 'Star Wars'. If I was to compare this to the other Simon Pegg & Nick Frost movies I would say it was better than 'Shaun of the Dead' but not as good as 'Hot Fuzz'.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
More of the same from the director of '300' and 'Watchmen'. The visual style was really good and I appreciated the Japanese anime influence, but I came away not knowing whether I liked the movie or not. I just hope he does a better job with the new Superman movie.
(Don't bother!) - review by Paul
Excellent suspense thriller. I love it when a movie keeps me guessing.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
Scooby Doo was better.

This franchise never fails to impress. Make sure you watch the animated short 'Day & Night' in the Bonus Features. It's very clever.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
A gritty western with critters instead of cowboys. The bright and colourful cover-art doesn't represent the look of the movie at all. Most of the jokes are aimed at an adult audience. Johnny Depp is suitably wacky. I liked it but my three-year-old said "Too scary!"
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Quirky British remake of a French film. The excellent cast did their best with the material that they were given.

Best Disney movie since 'The Lion King'. As good as 'Shrek'.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
Very cool and very clever. I like stuff which is a little different and this is fantastic. Reminds me of LOST or Inception.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
Excellent. Wonderful acting.

Okay but unspectacular. It was like watching the news. Denzel was better in 'Book of Eli'.
(Maybe) - review by Paul
I'm not a huge Seth Rogen fan but I got this anyway because I'm familiar with the Green Hornet character through comics and the old movies with Bruce Lee as Kato. This new action/comedy take on the story works well. It has charm, cheeky humour and cool fight sequences and car stunts. I'd watch it again.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Don't expect this to be 'District 9' and you'll be okay. Although it is technically a sci-fi movie, it is really just a road-movie that focusses on the journey and the relationship between the two main characters. In other words it's sci-fi meets chick-flick.
(Maybe) - review by Paul
Loved it. Warm and funny. Harrison Ford is brilliant.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Pretty cool, but I would have gotten more out of it if I'd watched the original again first. Twenty-eight years is a long time between movies. Olivia Wilde from the TV series 'House' is awesome in this.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Another Jack Black vehicle so expect him to do what he does. Amusing, but I think I like him better as a panda.
(Maybe) - review by Paul
Brilliant. I'm going to buy this one.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
Brilliant! Clever use of the superhero genre. Terrific voice cast. A worthy studio-mate to Shrek and Kung-fu Panda.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
Predictable but heartwarming. Parents should find this very relatable. My wife wanted to give this four stars. I'm giving it three.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
A good effects movie but light on story. It could also have used at least one well known actor (the dude from 'Scrubs' doesn't count).

This is not the best comic book adaptation I've seen but it it isn't the worst either. My limited knowledge of the character allowed me to enjoy this more than a true fan of the Jonah Hex comic would have.

Depressing. I prefer the old whimsical Clooney.

Embarassingly cheesy. Two stars for the evil raccoon.

A comedy of errors with wonderfully over-the-top characters and plenty of heart. It was refreshing to find a modern comedy that doesn't rely on vulgarity and coarse language.

Kung Fu Harry Potter.

Okay movie with a good cast but not as thrilling as it sounds. Very slow moving up until the last minute twist.

A very unique movie. Strange and engaging at the same time. Clever use of video game metaphors with special effects to match. I think I would have gotten more out of it if I'd read the graphic novels first.

Excellent. It has the same vibe as the television show 'Heroes'.
(Excellent) - review by Paul
A moody, quirky little fantasy outing. Enjoyable but not in the same league as Inkheart or Stardust.

I watched it with my wife and we both enjoyed it. Not bad compared to some of the chick flicks I've watched with her.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Spooky sci-fi thriller. Watch it with the lights on.

Didn't mind this at all. I thought the mentor role suited Nicholas Cage much better than some of his recent outings as the hero. Fun family flick.

Very cool. A great swashbuckling action flick.

Porn thinly disguised as comedy. Forget about it.

Classic 1970s animation. This is actually two episodes of Scooby Doo that feature Batman and Robin. More for the Scooby Doo fan than the Batman fan.

Clever but not funny. One star because I love Jennifer Garner.
(Don't bother!) - review by Paul
I thought that something starring Adam Sandler called 'Funny People' would be funny. Guess what? It wasn't, not even in an ironic way. Sandler's movies have been going downhill since he started working with Judd Apatow. If you really want to watch him then go and get 'The Waterboy' or '50 First Dates' again.
(Don't bother!) - review by Paul
Great family movie. Clash of the Titans meets Harry Potter.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Paul
Steve Carell should avoid acting with people who are funnier than he is because Tina Fey owned this movie. Worth the watch just for her.
(Worth watching) - review by Paul
Fans of director Kevin Smith will agree that this is definitely a cop-out on his part. I mainly watched this because it had Tracy Morgan from the excellent series '30 Rock'. Willis doesn't take himself too seriously in this and I think I prefer him that way. Light entertainment for 10 o'clock at night.
