Lighthearted and enjoyable.

Stilted acting. ponderous script, boring direction. 40 minutes was enough

You find yourself just going along with journey, and suddenly the movie's over and you realise not a lot has happened but you've enjoyed the ride with some nice people.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
A good solid movie about the desperate things desperate people do.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Indianna Jones meets Lara Croft meets Jurassic Park. The combination works! Good old fashioned adventure movie.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Kinda cute, and sorta watchable. Doesn't try to anything that it's not.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
After 40 minutes I didn't care what happened to any of them.....
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Embarrassingly bad. Switched off after 30 minutes.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
The first five minutes made me want to go back to Paris. The next hour and twenty five minutes was pretentious twaddle. Too "try-hard" clever by half.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Real life does not a movie make. Watching someone iron for two minutes looses its attraction after ten seconds. Having said that, there was something vaguely intriguing about this, but I can't actually say what it was!
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Clips along a a great pace. It seems to keep getting more complicated, but the script is so well handled that you know what is happening at all times. Great characters, a bit if humour, a bit of biffo, and some great accents, what more could one want!
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
I nearly turned this off after about 15 minutes, but I'm glad I didn't. Funny in parts, sometimes a little touching, a bit sentimental sometimes, but always stays true to itself.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
A movie that hits you right between the eyes. Conceptually brilliant, it takes awhile to put everything into timeline and context, but when you do, it becomes even more engrossing. Both entertaining and disturbing at the same time.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
It's hard to know where to start with this. It is amazing how talented directors and writers can get so much into 5 minutes, and Paris doesn't disappoint.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
For a movie where not a lot happens this is entirely engrossing. You get caught up in the main characters attempt to take herself away from the world. This is assisted greatly by the actress inhabiting this role. She becomes Julie and make her totally believable. The music adds to the package, it is very emotional.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Highly entertaining. Who would have thought, philosophising drug traffickers!
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
A pretty slick little number
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Plods along to an under-whelming conclusion
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Even though the cliches run thick and fast, there is a genuine warmth and energy emanating from the screen. Just a good fun movie with some amusing characters.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Engrossing throughout with great performances by everyone involved.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Intriguingly intriguing.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Very dour, depressing and bleak with no real resolution. The production values are very high, but in the end, there is a feeling of light dissatisfaction.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
For a movie that on the surface is pretty slow, and very long, it sure packs a powerful little punch. Everything just fits together to create something that has heart, soul and scenery.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Interesting premise, very uninteresting telling of said premise.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Totally masterful.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Totally engrossing in a slow moving, dreamlike sort of way.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
If a modern remake of this was done, there would probably be graphic images of the hallucinations, music to set the tone, slick camera work in order to ram the subject matter down the throats of a modern movie going audience who need to be spoon fed. None of this is needed in this powerful portrayal of the descent into mental illness and its effect on the person involved and the people around them. We didn't see one hallucination, but we knew she was having them and it was chilling to watch, and just occasionally, one of Bach's solo cello works played in the background. What a perfect fit to the movie. "I have seen God, and he was a spider".

Sometimes is good just to sit down and get wrapped up in a good story well told. This is one of those times.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
An intriguing little tale well told. Hell hath no fury like a man scorned! Only let down was right at the very end. I'm not a very good sign reader, so I wasn't sure what she actually meant.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Very minimalistic. A study of disfunctional communication or lack of it. I think the cast and crew would have needed therapy after putting all their emotions into this. Strangely compelling throughout, and great performances from the 4 leading ladies.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
A semi-sophisticated French romp told in a light-hearted and light-handed manner. There were even a few laugh out loud moments and the music was great. The whole thing had a vague 60s feel about it. Almost......priceless!
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
A quiet little love story played out on the sometimes gentle, sometimes rugged Brittany coast. Very understated.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Grew on me as it went, but not as good as I expected after all the hype.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
I think this was just a director trying to be clever. The only interest was to try and work out when she would meet the different people in her "run". On another note, lots of people on here complain about subtitles. I'd rather have them than ridiculously false voices are overdubbed. It takes away from the real actors. The voice-over person can't really get how the actor was feeling, and the lip syncing doesn't work.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
So....someone wrote some songs (which all sound very the same, and one we hear too often)...and then someone wrote a story about someone writing some songs and recording them, with a slight love story thrown in. Doesn't make great viewing.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
An absolute delight and totally heartwarming.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Told with obvious love and attention, but comes across as one dimensional and dull
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
A quiet little movie, full of interesting characters.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
A lovingly crafted little gem.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Irritatingly detailed and clever. Brilliant surreal animation, and some interestingly different music. That's about it........
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Top notch little movie.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Watchable, but not memorable. Not one cigarette appeared in the entire movie. I's sure that was director's irony.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
A long tedious look at someone's long tedious life. Problem is I never got to the end of it, like he assuredly did.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Totally amazing. The camera work in this is brilliant, so many mirrors to work around. Natalie Portman gets right into it, Tchaikovsky's music fits the darkness of the story perfectly and the tension throughout is palpable. What we do in the pursuit of absolute perfection. The is pretty near a perfect movie.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Started off pretentious and unfunny and continued that way right through. Why anyone bothered making this is beyond me.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
What a relief when they finally got to Perth...problem was there was still 25 minutes to go. Very, very average.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
What a wild last 4 minutes it was. Schumann will never be the same. Bit of a slow burner, but ultimately satisfying.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Got to 45 minutes, turned it off. Really bad acting, and average musical numbers. Cliche laden rubbish. Groan meter...10.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
What a stupid world we live in. This gently reminds us of that. The irony of the ending sums up the whole thing.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Total dross the whole way through. 1 hour and 25 minutes I'll never get back.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
A beautiful movie, which although I thoroughly enjoyed, I couldn't become emotionally involved in.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Feel good or what....and it's true. Enthralling from beginning to end
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Wow...you know you've watched a movie at the end of this. No wonder Natalie Portman continued on after this stunning debut. Parts of this made me feel rather awkward, others tense, others amused, but there was no let up on any kind of emotion from beginning to end. Excellent in all respects.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
After watching several foreign films lately, going back to Hollywood just doesn't cut it anymore. Padded out with "action", no characterisation, situations that 100% of normal people would never survive, etc etc. This is just like all the American crime/thriller/action one hour TV shows that are inflicted upon us at an ever increasing rate, but it just happens to be 1.5 hours long and made for the big screen. Vacuous.........
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
I'm not sure what to make of this. It started out a bit like a Mexican version of The InBetweeners, but not as funny. I nearly turned it off, but I was eventually caught up in the interactions between the three main characters. The thing I found the most interesting was seeing real life Mexico happening in the background all the time, police roadblocks, armed soldiers raiding a property on the side of the road, villagers requesting money from travelers before they let them past, and people living in poverty in the villages. The narrator also described the lives on ordinary people from the places the characters passed. I'm still not sure what to make of it!
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Peter Greenaway's extravagance and excess is on full show here. Rich colours, strange characters in a strange situation which none of them find strange. Entertaining...yes, interesting....sort of, thought provoking maybe. Did I enjoy it...I think so. Women, you can't live without them, and can't live with them....even 8 1/2 of them, and the most pleasure may come from the strangest source. Did the Earth move for you?
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Unimaginative, uninspiring, unemotional, uninteresting and unbelievably boring. The best part was the cars. America has made some very ordinary movies, but they made some amazingly beautiful cars during the 50s and early 60s. But that doesn't help the movie lift itself out of a mire of mediocrity.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Sometimes I never cease to wonder at the creativity of the human brain. This is one of those times. Brilliant in all respects and a very different musical film. Grabs you and takes you on a wild ride towards the inevitable conclusion. The music is great, the acting is brilliant, and the editing involved in all the dance sequences is seamless and imaginative. I am in awe!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
That is without doubt one of the best movies I have ever seen. Excellently portrayed characters, all with their flaws. Love and obsession, where do we draw the line, and how far do we take our obsession? And how does it affect others, even those we love. I could go on................
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Crackles along at the rate of knots to an ultimately unexpected and satisfying conclusion. What more can you ask from a movie.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
The sum of the parts didn't equal the whole. There were lots of twists and turns throughout, but at the end, it was all a bit deflating and pointless. The reason for the meaning of the title only occurred twice, and had very little relevance to anything.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
A bit dated now, but there is enough moments of tension to keep things interesting. What an eminently nasty fellow The Preacher was.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Could have slipped into sentimentality, but some good acting and a tight, realistic script didn't let it. Just two people who meet at an important time of their lives.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Excellent. No wonder it won so many awards (see "The Making of" in the extras). This is one of those movies where everything comes together to create perfection.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
A pleasant, introspective look at some fairly normal people. Quaint would be a word that comes to mind.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
This makes our traditional hen's and buck's nights look embarrassingly primitive. Loud, colourful and frantic... a bit like India.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Fish out of water, Poms in America and aliens on another planet.....take your pick. Not as funny as I expected.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Classic!! I hope the British never stop making movies like this.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
I couldn't work out who this was aimed at. Not cute enough for kids, not interesting enough for teenagers, and not funny enough for adults who may watch it with them. Excellent animation though.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Under-whelming, with much of the dialogue, of which there is a lot, hard to hear and understand due to the drawl. Dull
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
These people make Julian Assange and Wikileaks look like rank amateurs. High class production.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Pleasant enough, well told story. Penelope Cruz as usual is excellent.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
This is summed up by the first 5 minutes..."there is no reason". However the whole "no reason" thing gives the film makers open slather on the story line.....and they do that to the max. This may become a mild cult classic, or it may sink, never to be heard of again. It is worth having a look, just for that reason! It is a version of the tall dark stranger roaming the desert menacingly, leaving a trail of bodies behind him, but in this case the villain is round and black with a well groomed tread.........
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
A movie for the times. I cannot fault this at any level. Clever script, clever direction and a great sound track. And I must remember to keep my relationship status on FB up to date. A very observant look at the way we all communicate these days.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Ahhh..the jangle of spurs in the crisp morning air, stetsons worn at jaunty angles, an obligatory body count at the end, brooding looks, explosions and riding off into the snow drifts with no explanation. All the makings of a great Western yarn.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
A great way to wrap up the trilogy. Very long, but it is put together so well, that you just get caught up in it. It may be a little confusing if you haven't seen the first two. I am going to avoid the English version. I have been quite satisfied with the originals!
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Enough suspense and intrigue to keep you interested throughout. However, this could just have easily been a two part TV mini-series. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one in the series, but I can't really say why. I also agree with a few other people that the yellow subtitles were at times very hard to read against some backgrounds. On to the third one...............................
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
It doesn't matter whether you've seen The Spanish Apartment or not, this stands alone. Just a pleasant journey through life and love. I hope there is another episode when they all turn 40!!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Very very weird, but very engrossing. Strange characters, strange situations............... weird.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
An entertaining movie about tangled webs and avoiding telling the truth. Andy Garcia is excellent. City Island looks like a great place to visit if I ever get to NY.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
A similar premise to the TV show Hustle. Who's conning who? Classy.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Acquired Brain Injury Recovery 101.....the script taken straight from a cliched text book. Nasty, horrible workaholic lawyer gets hit in the head with a bullet, and after what seems no time at all he becomes a lovely family man with a conscience. To use the modern vernacular...OMG!!!
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Enjoyable enough but it's all a bit one dimensional. the highs aren't high and the lows aren't low. Just a two hour story.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
High energy Gallic romp with a poignant, touching ending......brilliant in all aspects. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. This is high quality entertainment.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Entertaining enough to keep you interested all the way through.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Ho Hum..........................
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Pure entertainment from start to finish. Some of the best comedies are the totally outlandish, where the actors play it completely straight. This is one of those times. Some great lines, and lots of laugh out loud moments. Great fun!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Brilliant animation and a mildly touching story, spoilt completely by the overdubbed American voices. It is slightly ironic watching an American bombing raid destroy a quintessential Japanese village while the locals are fleeing talking with American accents. Sometimes (most times), subtitles work better.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
A well thought out story, that, because you're not quite sure how things are connected, has a slight menacing edge to it all the way through. Tourists and the "system" don't come out of it too well. One of my new top ranked movies.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Europeans do this sort of movie much better than Hollywood; just let the script tell the story with no huge dramatics. Interesting camera work with lots of extreme close-ups. I enjoyed this movie immensely.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Ahh,,,falling in lust and then love and not quite sure how are when it happened. Pity we all didn't have a friendly taxi driver to help us out.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Sad, sad, sad, with a small glimmer of hope. Powerful movie, acted brilliantly by everyone, with well crafted, realistic story-lines. Excellent in every way.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
What a great bunch of characters! A clever script about script writing. The whole thing is constantly entertaining, even the ridiculousness of the ending in the swamp. Clever is the one word that spring to mind after watching this.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
A powerful animated, almost documentary style, film. It describes how war has a profound effect on the people involved (soldiers and civilians), both during and after horrific events. The cut to real life footage in the last few minutes brings home the message in an even more powerful way.
The animation which is mostly set in the past, and peoples memories of it, is almost surreal. It suits the story perfectly.
The interview with the writer/director is interesting as he tells that the movie is autobiographical.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Loved every minute of it.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
I have NEVER not watched a movie to the end until now. I got to 40 minutes with extreme difficulty. Cringe worthy Rubbish About Pathetic nobodies.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Nice little low budget surprise. Pleasure to watch a simple story told and acted well.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Exquisite, sad, happy, funny, engaging, emotional and touching. A story that is probably all too familiar with many people in the world, told with honesty and feeling. Movie making as it should be.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Two very long hours of total dross, not even saved by the quality of the actors involved. Everything it tries to do and be, it doesn't. And the saccharine music gets really annoying after the first half hour.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Fairly run of the mill police investigation drama, made slightly more interesting because it actually happened.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Totally ridiculous with no redeeming features at all
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
The juxtaposition of mindless violence, comedic touches and not letting the kids "touch the guns, they're not toys", makes for an extremely entertaining movie. The classic cars are a bonus!!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Movie making at it's finest.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
I enjoyed everything about this movie, the story, the acting, the cinematography and the scenery. A team who obviously put a lot of thought into what they wanted to produce.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Excellent!
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
A film that doesn't take itself seriously. A light hearted, fairly entertaining, in a non thinking way, hour and a half
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
A gentle heart warming movie (although the scenery looks extremely cold and bleak). The feast scene is brilliant, and adds some humour in an understated, restrained manner; which sort of sums up the lifestyle of the characters in the movie. Excellent all round.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Don't quite know why I bothered watching this all the way through. Infantile and pointless are two words that come to mind having sat though it.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
A bit like Craig Ferguson's TV show....mildly amusing.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Top rate. Keeps you interested right from the start.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Absolutely superb. When you get a combination of excellent actors and a well written script, you can't go wrong.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Excellent. All aspects of this movie come together to create an interesting, offbeat, quirky and at times emotional story. Penelope Cruize shines, but the other cast members are not overshadowed.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
That would have to be one of the "nicest" movies I've ever seen. Smiled all the way through.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
This is not one for lovers of action and lots happening. It is more an interesting character study of people's reactions to a person who has just left prison. There are many moments of delightful film making. It is not "dramatic". It is just real people living life and all that it throws up at you.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
An enjoyable watch without reaching any great heights
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Fairly stark look at desperate people in desperate times.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
A well scripted movie, with some very good performances by the main cast. Very female oriented story, but I have to admit as a male I had to odd tear occasionally! Some very believable characters and relationships. A pleasant surprise.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
I was only going to give this one star. Over dramatic with little effect for most of its journey. However, I added a star for the last 35 minutes which added some backbone and meaning to the previous hour and a half.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Hugely enjoyable. Running gags all the way through, cliches flying everywhere, and the obligatory shoot out. Just sit back and have a laugh!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Bit of an angst ridden movie. Saved by some pretty good performances by the main cast.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
I cared little for any character in this, which made the whole thing rather tedious and laboured. The ending was unexpected, but I very nearly didn't get there. A movie should not rely on the last 5 minutes to give it any creedence. Boring boring boring, and Pierce Brosnan's accent was appalling.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
Interesting with enough intrigue to keep you watching, but will I remember it tomorrow.................probably not.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
This has stood the test of time. Good acting, good script....all the ingredients you need for an entertaining evening in.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Constant tension throughout, never quite knowing who, or when someone was going to die or be injured. I can't imagine the tension felt in the real life situations.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
As interesting as watching grass dry and paint grow, and just about as useful.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
A bit too clever for me..I think I got it in the end!! Even if I didn't, it had me glued to my seat for the whole two hours. Well crafted movie that leaves you guessing, long after you finish watching it.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
"Love Actually" without the heart, and British understated humour.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor are excellent in this well scripted movie from Woody Allen. There is not one line too many, or any unnecessary brooding silences, just to the point story telling. Phillip Glasses' music adds to the atmosphere. An interesting study of greed, desperation and family ties.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
I was slightly disappointed after all the hype. Ben Mendleson is excellent, and Jackie Weaver stands out as the manipulative, over protective Mother, who is probably the root cause of all the issues and lifestyles that the sons have!!
Although there was some tension and inevitability built up throughout the film, at times it labours along, with too many time filling bits of silence. Having said all that, it is still worth a look.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
What a strange ride......just go with I suppose.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
This bought back memories of sitting in my Year 7 class in 1969 watching the moon landing. Typical understated Australian movie with throw away lines and droll humour.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Brilliant. Nothing more to be said.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
I showed this to various age groups at a Primary School recently. Most of them seemed to enjoy it at some level, even though it's not their usual fare these days. Jodie Foster is so far ahead of the others, it is obvious why she went on to do what she has done in her career. I'm not sure whether my hearing is going, but the diction of some of the other actors left a lot to be desired.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Excellent edge of your seat stuff. Like a novel that you want to keep reading to see what happens.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
My admiration in this case goes to the script writers. There are many more words in this 90 minutes than your average movie, and it works. There are one liners, astute observations and totally obscene rants. all meshed into a quick fire look at the inner workings of national governments. Whether it's true to life or not doesn't really matter, it's still entertaining.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Strong script, strong cast, tight direction and great cinematography. The worst part of the movie, and the best, is that it is supposedly based on a true story. Truly horrific.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
As an adult, you have to suspend belief just a little while watching this movie. There are a few things that could not have happened quite as they did, in the real world. However with adult radar dispensed with, this is well worth watching. The horrific irony, if that's the right word for it, of the ending is very powerful.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
I would like to have seen the original stage show to make a comparison, because as a movie, this fell a little flat for me. The shining light was Ernie Dingo.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Gritty and unglamorous. Well crafted look at people having to belong to something to make themselves feel alive. Hardly "enjoyable", but an excellent movie.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
I was not quite sure who this was aimed at, teenagers or adults. Although it was about a very serious subject, it did not touch me emotionally as I believe it could have. I think the book it was based on may capture the inner thoughts, particularly of the main character, better. Not a bad movie, it just didn't work for me.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
What a brilliant surprise. Absolutely great movie at all levels. All emotions are covered, the acting is great and music sublime. Don't hesitate to see it.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Nice pretence, but it just didn't work for me.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
I usually enjoy these type of movies, but this one just seemed a little bit forced. The humour lost its impact eventually because it became too much the same, predictable and obvious. The best part was the music, and the extra at the end about how they wrote and performed all the songs is worth looking at.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Addiction, co-dependence, family, love, the boredom of lives with little meaning in them, humour in the face of adversity, exploitation and reggae music; all touched on in a compassionate and unique way. Minimal dialogue, but with some interesting use of sounds in the background. I loved the constant sound or car tyres driving over the bridge in Alice Springs while the characters were sitting under it and the windmill creaking towards the end. This grew on me as I watched it.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
A fairly unemotional, and I assume close to factual, recreation of events in John Lennon's early life.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
One of the saddest movies I've seen for quite some time. Great performances by everyone.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Why is it that movies about decidedly nasty people are so engrossing? And boy(o), can those Welsh sing!
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
A genuine, heartfelt and understated movie. A rare commodity these days. Excellent characterisations by everyone involved. Great music as well. I had a smile on my face the whole way through.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
This movie is on the surface, many longish conversations, in dispersed with moments of sheer violence. What got me in was the impending menace of all the conversations. You have a feeling that something brutal is about to occur, but you're not sure what it will be, and exactly when it will happen. The first long conversation in the farm house sets this up. Movie making at it's best, great script, great acting and great cinematography.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
An in your face portrayal of the lifestyle of heroin addicts. The acting in this is fantastic. Gritty and realistic.

Yaaawwwnnn!
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
This was not what I expected at all. Colin Firth is excellent, as is the cinematography, dark and oddly washed out. I was captured by the whole package. A reminder that life is all about relationships of all kinds.
(Excellent) - review by Bruce
Subscribing to Quickflicks has been a good opportunity to see movies that you should have seen in the past but for various reasons didn't. This is a little dated now, but still holds up with some great acting from all the leads, and a tight script.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
A one joke movie that stops working half way through
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
Sometimes you wonder why they bothered to make some movies. This was one of those occasions.
(Don't bother!) - review by Bruce
This would have to be one of the most tedious and boring movies I have ever seen. Far too long, and to make things worse, it was one of those movies where they try to save money by not turning the lights on in the studio, so half the time it's hard to see what's happening. I had to force myself to watch it all the way through. I wish I hadn't.
(Maybe) - review by Bruce
I really enjoyed this. Understated and minimalistic, about some ordinary people, in very ordinary suburban Australia, who are struggling with events that most of us at one stage or another have to deal with, or wonder how we would cope if we did. I found all the characters very believable. Well worth having a look.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Bruce
Enjoyable enough.
(Worth watching) - review by Bruce
Carey Mulligan is brilliant. One minute she looks and acts 16, the next she is like a worldy wise woman. I sometimes felt uncomfortable watching this, because of the complete acceptance by everyone about what was happening, both in the relationship and some of the characters' lifestyles. I did not pick the ending!

An engrossing movie which mixes real life footage with the ordinary lives of some people who were caught up in history through fate. The speech by Robert Kennedy over the final credits is brilliant. No politicians today could get anywhere close.

An enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

I couldn't quite work out why this movie even got made. There were several long scenes that added little to the story. like the dancing at the wedding, and the speeches at the pre wedding dinner went on forever....like some real life weddings perhaps...and they weren't even that interesting.

Enjoyable enough. but it was hard to get emotionally attached to the two main characters as embark on a round the world road trip. The script was very ponderous with very little insight-fullness, so I was left feeling little for either of them.

This could have turned into total corn, but is saved by a fairly snappy script, and a group of actors looking like they are have a ball on the set. Doesn't take itself seriously.

This movie was totally enthralling from beginning to end. A modern issue covered from the aspect of all the different characters' beliefs and backgrounds, creating a thought provoking storyline. Thoroughly recommended.

Bit of a laugh, sometimes out loud. Predictable!!

It's hard to believe that the same person who plays the suave, smooth talking Spaniard in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona', (Javier Barden) plays such an evil, demented person in this movie. This is one of those movies that makes you keep watching it by beating you around the head; tense, violent and relentless in its spiral into compete desolation and awfulness. The setting adds to the tension also, bleak and unforgiving.
There is no music at all in the movie which in my mind makes it more horrific because you have to feel what is happening, and not be guided by the atmoshphere of the score.

The best part of this movie is the absurdly detailed narration. Slightly disappointing ending, but a very enjoyable and pleasant journey to get there.
