Beautifully filmed and great acting. Certainly portrayed the harsh realities of rural life in that era. Pleased to see this in only 4 episodes...found the fuss about Tess rather melodramatic...were there no other suitable women around? Can't say too much without giving the plot away. If you like this genre, you'll like this re-telling. I adore Eddie Redmayne in this role - I wouldn't have jeopardised my happiness with him, that's for sure.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
The actors, particularly Eddie Redmayne & the always bodacious Matthew Mac lifts this to a greater level. Visually, it is very well-done (the Scott legacy is strong). If you like this genre and are waiting for Games of Thrones Series 3 you'll be familiar with the usual suspects/storylines (good v evil, always an evil Cardinal, much plotting, nasty kings etc etc) and this is a nice 8-episode saga.

My 11-year old daughter and I really liked this. If you're a fan you'll like it, if not you won't. It's essentially a PR piece with a nice mix of history, concert footage and ontour behind the scenes, not a real concert DVD. It's a fun 90mins that you can turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Enormous attention to detail. Only for those who LOVE movies about Roman soldiers. Or those who watch everything Channing Tatum is in. For me, I fast-fwded the fight scenes (seen one seen them all) and focussed on the story. Jamie Bell was excellent. Nice cameo by the mighty Donald Sutherland - must have needed the $.
Have to say it...Braveheart and Gladiator are far better movies in this genre.

You'll either love this or hate it. Thank goodness I knew about the crude humour. Was in the right mood and laughed out loud all the way through. My mum would hate this (she doesn't like swearing). A chick's movie rather than a bloke's.

Not a huge fan although did enjoy this. Nice closure to an epic saga. For such an immortal enemy the final showdown was rather lame. Liked the fast-forward to the characters 19 years later. Would have liked more depth to Ron, Hermione and even Neville but suppose there was a lot of content to cover. SFX extremely good. The producers are very lucky all main kids turned out to be very good actors and quite good-looking.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
For the first 30 mins I couldn't work out what was going on (tx Google for finding plot synopsis). I enjoyed it after this and did like the ending. With others in thinking a better explanation for the technology would have been good. Jake can really act.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
Incredibly average. The main character Greg is very unlikeable and is really horrible to his supposed best friend Rowley. Having not read the books I'm not sure if this is how the character was written or just the actor is just not good. Rowley is rather endearing, as are the parents (especially the dad).

Yes I know it's a "classic" but to me it hasn't stood the test of time. In comparison, Gallipoli (also by Peter Weir) stands up very well. Total fiction. Did a lot for tourism of Hanging Rock though. Especially the idea of going there for a picnic.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Good golly this movie is extremely over-rated. Avoid.

Dare I say it...? I found this surprisingly underwhelming, despite really enjoying the separate Iron Man & Thor movies. I didn't care what happened to even watch it until the end. Loki was one of the few high points.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Better than expected. A lot of fun. As with all Avenger movies now....watch for the sneak peek of the next movie at the end of the credits.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Fassbender be still my beating heart. I only watched this because of him. The movie is quite average although the scenery is stunning. Too much fight scenes for me. If Fassy and Russell Crowe did a historical movie together I'd self-combust. Four stars for Fassbender.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Don't waste your time & money on this. Absolutely woeful. It's not funny. At All. Sandler needs to retire. No stars from me.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I guessed the plot twist early on. Certainly a lot of fuss at the time of release. A shame the main boy actor never went onto continued success. He does seem rather annoying now, 13 years on.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
At the time of watching I felt like the only 41-year old woman who hadn't seen this. NOW I understand the fuss. As others have said, the acting by all is very very good and it doesn't fall into melodrama. Highly recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Mulligan is the strength of this story. Whilst watching, I found this profoundly sad but the feeling faded the next day. The child actors who were Kathy & Tommy were also very good. Knightly just does her usual pouting. Only watch if you're in a very serious mood.

Teamfassbender...I understand!!!! I love this old English genre but found this one hard-going.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
Amazing production values and superbly cast, especially the children. No wonder Peter Dinklage got an Emmy. Only 2 episodes on disc 1...arrgh....need the next disc pronto! I hadn't read the books and found the characters confusing. A quick glance at synopsis on Wikipedia set me straight. I gasped out loud at what happened to Bran.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
fans of Demi & Selina will love this. Others will look for other things to do whilst it's on. the rating is my daughter's, not mine!
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I don't like chick flicks but I really liked this. You know at the start how it will end...it was an enjoyable 90 mins or so.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
The twist in this was a surprise. Given how predictable most movie plots are these days I didn't see this one coming. The story is far-fetched. I like to think of Neeson as an older Jason Bourne...suspend all disbelief at the plot and just enjoy the ride. The first half of the movie is a little slow...stick with it because it's good once the twist is revealed.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
At times the human actors do look like they're really talking to the Smurfs (as others have noted). My daughter loves this. Fast forwards it to when the Smurfs are in New York. I defy any adult who was a child in the 70's/80's not to sing along to the "la la la la la la" theme song. Papa Smurf's voice is gorgeous.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Suspend your disbelief....this is a really good retelling of Cinderella , largely due to the fact that Lucy Hale is a good actress (she's very likeable) and the story is very smartly done. Highly recommended for girls 9-11 and their mums. We both really enjoyed it.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I was too distracted by Stallone's face to follow the convoluted storyline. I swear he has a trout pout! Rather cool to see so many cool action dudes in the one movie however the plot could have done with a shape up. Hope the next one is better.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Quite a different movie to what I normally watch. Only stuck with it because of the great acting by all. Benning and Moore are totally believable as a lesbian couple, especially Benning. Agree with other reviewers about the storyline.Younger actors Mia and Josh are absolutely ones to watch in the future. No wonder they're getting good roles now.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This was on tv on the weekend and I was shocked at how funny it still is, and equally how non-family it is. I had to explain most of it to my daughter. Don't get me started on the nana being left on the brother's doorstep. Only if you're feeling nostalgic.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This movie left me cold. With better actors and a much better script maybe I would have cared what happened to them stuck on the chairlift. I did the housework whilst watching this...it didn't hold my interest.

hi was really good we have 3 guineapigs at home and i loved how they save people and things altogether 5/5 stats really good for kids.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
We turned this movie off when the Duff girls set fire to their loungeroom and ran outside and drove off in their convertible and tried to book into a posh hotel instead of dealing with the fire. Too stupid for words. No stars from either my daughter or I.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Kids who liked the original will of course like this. I found it really hypocrtical of Disney to promote the notion of everyone being a star and that "it's all about the music". Um I don't think Disney quite views Hannah Montana, Demi and Jonas in that way LOL. The vote is my daughter's not mine.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Best Pixar movie since Toy Story. I sobbed and laughed throughout. Surprised at how emotional the storyline is. Just beautiful. And no usual Disney "there has to be a moral" nonsense.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I liked this because it was subtle and not in your face. That island would be a boring place to live though. Guessed what was going on but the ending suprised me....who was in on it?
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My 10-year old really likes this (knows it from ABC 3). It's a nice Aussie series with a smart, witty girl and good characters around her. A very nice antidote to the sugary Disney/Nickolodeon drivel.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
I had the misfortune to see this on a plane to Bali. Thank goodness for the fast-forward button. The characters are portrayed without charisma or energy. Blake Lively as an airforce trainer? Puhlease. This is so bad it reinforces the superhero movies that are done very well (The Dark Knight, first Spiderman etc). Avoid. You'll be cross you wasted time putting it in your queue, waiting for it to arrive, waiting for something better in your queue to then be sent.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I've struck these ladies off my friends' list. I want to remember SATC when it was really good as a tv series. Not like this. Oh surely there won't be a third movie. Really bad script. SJP looks really old and haggard. Fairly offensive to gay people and anyone Arabic. The scene towards the end where the gals bond with a group of women who take their burqas off to reveal the current Spring fashion collection was a joke. The only redeeming quality was the storyline with Charlotte being emotional about being a mum. But even then I lost sympathy when she said she has a fulltime nanny and says "how to women do it without help". The characters are sad parodies of what they once were.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I loved this. Emma and the rest of the cast are perfectly cast. The dialogue is witty and funny. No wonder Emma is getting good roles now. She makes her character likeable and endearing, with a lot of nuances. Recommended highly.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Oh I LOVE Russell Crowe in historical roles. This is my favourite role of his apart from Maximus in Gladiator. Cate brought much strength to the Marion role too. I really really liked this. Totally agree with other reviewers in thinking this was much better than expected.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
My 10-year old and I wanted this to be fabulous...and it wasn't. We would have liked more singing & dancing. HSM this isn't. It's quite enjoyable however and fans of the "Tis will like this.

A little lame. To me it was a poor cousin to Beverly Hills Chihuahua. My daughter liked it. Didn't love it.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I really liked this. But then I love Ewan McGregor. This scenario could really happen. Went and bought this when it was in the $10 bargain bin at JB Hi-Fi. Love the look, the hi-tech bits and it goes at a killer pace.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Don't read the reviews if you don't want to have the plot spelt out (no offence to other members). This was scarier than expected. The storyline was clever. I liked the ending. With other reviewers I would have liked more detail as to why they got to the awful predicament they did and I liked having no clues until they were revealed.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My 9-year old watched this with a group of friends and most of them were bored by half-way through. Can't please all kids all the time. Can't vouch for it- haven't seen it myself. The rating is hers.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Andy Whitfield is fabulous (RIP Andy) as are Xena and John Hannah. Visually similar in style to 300 - if you're squeamish about lots of slow-mo blood spurts avoid. But if you're into gladiator action you'd expect it, really. Highly recommended if you like this genre.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
If you like Statham you'll enjoy this..if not don't bother. As a story it's predictable and similar to many others out there.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Oh Alex Pettyfer should have been a shoo-in for the role of Peeta in The Hunger Games. Quite liked this..a mix of relationship & action. Beautifully set up for a sequel - not sure if this is going to happen. Nice to see Teresa Palmer in a kick-some-butt role.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Suprised how good an actor Cooper is. Interesting concept done well, although not OK with the message seemingly that you can do anything, be anything you want to be if you're taking drugs. As with others, would have thought other actors would have been given more to do with their roles.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
All the guys look hot (esp Neesom & Cooper) but oh the story is mindless. And a lot of things get blown up. Expected really, of an A-team movie.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
We really liked this - far more than expected (thought it would be just another Disney flick). Perfect for tomboy 9 year old girls tired of fairies who need a strong feisty heroine. We cried and laughed. Very highly recommended.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
I adore RDJ but this movie left me cold. Watched it half way and didn't bother with the rest. May try again some other time.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Suprised how good this is. And how young both Lopez and Clooney look. Highly recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My 9-year old LOVED this movie (she gives it 4/5 stars). I found Russell Brand's voice of EB really really annoying. If I never hear his voice again I'll be happy. Overall lots of fun. CGI is great - the rabbit looks real in many parts. Marsden is good eye-candy and has a killer smile.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Great chemistry between the 3 main actors - no wonder they're making a sequel. London looked suitably industrial & grimy. Slightly dull in the middle - about 20-30mins too long for my liking. If you like these actors you'll like this.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
A loud, bright, colourful and fun installment. There is too much Mater - he is the Jar Jar Binks of the Cars franchise - take him out and the movie is better for it. The movie loses its way mid through with the fossil fuel storyline but picks up quickly when it gets back to racing. Nice cameo by an Aussie V8 car character. Sally is a very minor character in this one. The kids will love it. Recommended.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Embarrassed to say that I watched this 3 times with my daughter. She loved the funny lines between Yogi and BooBoo. I can still make her laugh by saying "pic a nic basket" at odd times. Parents will nod off or find housework/ gardening to do. Kids will like it. The rating is her's not mine!
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My 9-yr old daughter and I adored this movie. It's funny smart and clever. And it has warring gnomes (red and blue team) - can't get better than that. The voices are spot on (esp the two main characters) and we both cried towards the end (not going to spoil it). Juliet as a ninja is too cute for words. There's none of the Pixar moral message either. Very Highly Recommended.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Suprised how much I enjoyed this. Dakota steals the show from Kristen however at least Kristen's not boring wishy washy Bella. Thought there would have been more of Joan Jett's songs featured rather than the Runaways. This is not a movie to watch with your conservative mum.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
What a great movie - still stands up well - gee JT and Cage looked mighty fine 14 years ago! JT is a very good bad guy and Cage's crazy eyes are a crack-up. Bonus points for the INXS song "Lose Your Head".
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This movie was like a more complex Narnia. I found the story very convoluted and needed to watch with subtitles. Absolutely not for my 10 year old daughter...maybe for older children with great attention spans. Well filmed - would have looked good on the big screen. There was supposed to be a sequel but this one didn't do well enough financially.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
Wax on wax off. Far more impact than the horrible recent version. My daughter has now seen both and prefers this one too. Classic.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This won all those Oscars? It's well-filmed but I didn't think it said anything new or different to all the other war movies. Surprisingly slow. It didn't engage me emotionlly at all.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I unexpectedly loved this. Maybe I'm officially "mature". Streep
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Surprised at how "slow" this movie is (is that blashphemous?). Gee the pace of movies has changed a lot. The car chases are great and McQueen (yes that character in Cars is named after Steve McQueen) is way cool.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
I borrowed this to get a glimpse into Kristen's "awesome" acting and was left underwhelmed. This is a very subtle movie...I just wasn't in a subtle mood. I watched Predator after this...go Arnie!

Really enjoyable for 9 year olds tired of Disney nonsense. Nice short episodes just right for kids' attention spans. My daughter LOVES this series.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I liked this. A nice antidote to loud stupid CGI movies that make no sense. If you lik Ed Burns, Patrick Wilson, Debra Messing
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
I love sci-fi and whilst found the story very silly....did appreciate Vin Diesel. He can do anything. If you need saving...he's your man. For real fans of the genre only. What was Judi Dench doing in this?
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
This genre is a little tired now however this is still a good movie (made a few years ago). Smith was at his best and Hackman is a good solid presence.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
An unexpected treat. Both my daughter and I laughed and cried at this gorgeous movie. Mums if your daughter gets emotional you'll have to watch it with her. Casting is spot on. Mums will appreciate Josh

Lovely series for girls 9-12 who (and their parents) are tired of Disney nonsense. Great storylines with nice characters and great production values. An Australian series I think. Very highly recommended.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Shocked and saddened at how easily the main girl was misled by Nikki Reed's character. Parent naivety played a part as well. Reed wrote this (is it autobiographical?) - I'll never look at her the same way again. To the smug parents saying "my kids never did/would never do that"...hope like hell/be glad your kids never met someone like Reed! They could have easily gone the same way. Kudos to those brave enough to discuss the issues this movie presents with daughters - it's easier to put your heads in the sand. A difficult movie to watch.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
At last, a non-Hollywood movie that deserves all the hype. Extremely well cast and superbly scripted
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I turned this off in frustration after 45 mins. After reading some of the other reviews maybe I should have stuck with it. It lost me....not sure if it is a teen or grown up movie. LOL at Brosnan being a centaur. Drool at Sean Bean. Maybe I'll watch it when I'm in an appropriate mood.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
I was ravenous watching this movie - it will make you want to eat and eat. Amy was gorgeous in this role. Once you get over Meryl's accent she is rather good - she transcends into whatever character she plays - genius. Watch when you're in a chick flick mood.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Not as good as the Jason Bourne movies (they set a high benchmark) but still very good. Thank goodness Jolie got this role instead of Tom Cruise. The twist was a good suprise.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
My 9-yr old daughter summed this movie up perfectly "Mum, why are they so nasty to each other...aren't they supposed to be best friends?". Neither Anne nor Kate's characters were likeable and I found this movie excruitating from start to finish and was really annoyed I sat through it. Would have preferred to watch the NAB AFL footy (that's saying something!). A few funny bits but the whole Bridezilla joke quickly wears thin.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Ben Affleck be still my beating heart. Jen Garner I'll have him if you're over him. A gritty well done movie. Has the obligatory numerous F words thrown in and lotsa shooting. But then you'd expect that. With all the fuss about Blake she didn't even register for me in this. Rebecca is very good. Affleck actually has good directing skills.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
All the actors look fabulous in the period costumes (especially Depp, sigh!). Very long and I didn't get a sense of why Dilinger
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
I find it bizarre that Anna is considered to have so much influence. I found her rather boring and a bit "meh". If Meryl Streep's character in Devil Wears Prada is modelled on her, I prefer the fictional one thanks! I did however really like Grace and admired her passion. Only interesting if you really like fashion.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
I don't normally do chick flicks (give me Star Trek, Jason Bourne any day) but unexpectedly loved this. The scenery is stunning- get me on the next plane to Italy. Get past the improbability of the storyline and you'll enjoy it. My 10year old daughter really liked it too (she likes Amanda from the Mama Mia movie). A lovely change from many of the violent, fast paced and foul-mouthed movies out there.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I adore John Cusack but this movie is just plain annoying. And boring.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Gosh this adaptation is just to die for (to steal another reviewer's words)!!! Stunning sets, costumes and the feel is spot on. As for the cast....perfection. I could listen to McKellen read the phone book. Extremely very well done. Did not think this would be as good as it is. If you like this genre you will LOVE this. Was done in 1995 but has not dated one bit. An unusual 5/5 from me.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Yes, JT makes an awesome bad guy. Not as much character development as I hoped and I was doing something else for most of the time it was on. Quite good
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Wow this is an unexpected treat. If you like Sci Fi with heart (both human and alien) you'll like this. Loved the analogy of the aliens being treated as refugees and the questions of whether they're being treated appropriately. Very well done.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Very slow - I fast forwarded much of it. James Stewart was good however maybe time has dulled Hitchcock's importance...found this overrated. Was expecting much more. For fans only.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
I nearly didn't watch this but am glad I did. A beautifully filmed, typically French movie with a strong storyline - thank goodness for subtitles. A nice change to the noisy, over the top SFX Hollywood movies.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This is a good movie and a caution to those thinking it's cool to drug traffic (or steal other's drugs to traffic). It's a rarity - a very good modern Aus movie with no cliches. Very well acted and tight storyline. Watch it when you're in a serious mood.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Bon Jovi 4 eva! This is a must-see for all fans. Smile at the band's big hair days.... reminisce when you first heard the old songs as a teenager....gasp when Jon finally cut his hair. He still is totally hot. Their old songs stand up really well and their new ones are great too. I challenge anyone not to sing along and do air guitar to Living on a Prayer.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Say what you will about The Hills - it's a lot of mindless fun. Whilst the big questions never get solved - how on earth could Heidi get a job as Events Director? What does Spencer do for a job - is he a drug dealer? Why can't she see he's a moron? What do Lauren and Whitney do all day at Teen Vogue? Why do Lauren and Audrina have such bad taste in men? it's still fun.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This movie left me wanting more. There should have been more storyline made of why the predators and humans were dumped on the planet in the first place (who did it and why?), should have been more Predators and more of the characters. Made me nostalgic for Arnie's cheesy oneliners!
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This movie holds up really well. Loved it as a teen - thought Nanook was the best dog's name ever. Nice to revisit. Very well cast - these guys can act.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Not sure how this got a PG rating - the 9
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
The first half is very slow but the second half is better. Amazing CGI however it's very obvious and over the top. Not much in the way of character development and story...others have noted this has been edited for western audiences...possibly missing something in the translation? For fans of this genre only. Was expecting much more.

See Bruce Willis with hair (oh alright, a variety of wigs and disguises). A good thriller made in the days when the storyline and dialogue were more important than SFX. Yes, the ending was annoying.

What a hoot. Nice to revisit a movie from my childhood, as an adult - how YOUNG are Burt and Sally!! Great car. Great driving.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
If you have 1.5 hrs to fill in and want something light, funny and non brain-taxing this movie is fine. Quite OK but I lost interest 3/4 way through, didn't watch the rest and didn't feel that I missed anything. Like the main guy and SWS is his usual brainless character.

yes I know I'm behind the times...am only now actually watching this series after reading about them endlessley in gossip mags. OMG how good does Heidi look! Makes her excessive surgery in recent years all the more sad.

Agree with other reviewers - thought this ws going to be scary but it wasn't. Kind of guessed what was going on but didn't. Was he really mad or not? Was it all made up to keep him there??

My favourite of all the HP movies. Wicked storyline, fab character development and Ron is looking rather hunky (watch out Harry)..

What an awesome way to reenergise a tired franchise. Directors watch and weep with the ease that JJ Abrams gives life to ST. Superb casting, solid storyline and amazing effects. George Lucas would be green with envy. I have never been a trekkie...until now.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Suspend your disbelief - this is a very well written and acted thriller with a few twists n turns. Can imagine this being redone by Hollywood with someone like Ryan Philippe, Shia LeBouf etc in Chris Egan's role. I did guess the plot before it was revealed.. watch it right to the end...however it lost nothing for me guessing it - don't cheat n fast fwd!
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Very very good - well cast, solid storyline.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Absolutely glorious. Suprisingly solid performances from all major players. Paul Bettany is unrecognisable as Lord Melbourne (yes, who "Melbourne" is named after). These actors communicate more with looks and gestures than many others and it is wonderful watching Victoria
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
I adore Jason Statham but found this movie absolutely woeful. Maybe should have read reviews before I chose it - it's full of swearing, drug use, shooting violence (not my kinda thing) and whilst the premise is quite interesting, it could have been handled a lot better. If you like movies of this type, no worries.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
This movie holds up very well due to the great performances by Depp and Pacino. A wordy movie with good solid dialogue. Is it my imagination, or did movies in the 80s

This movie made me laugh and cringe at the same time. Even though I'm a massive Star Wars fan a lot of this movie is just plain dumb. For fans only.

Shocked that I enjoyed this even though Cage is a terrible actor. Very interesting story premise. Loved seeing melbourne landmarks (nice touch). Fast forwarded the obligatory car chase through the countryside at night cliche.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Somewhat disappointing. Not enough screen time for Streep. Somewhat summed up the futility of war - not sure if this was the aim of the movie.

Agree with most of the other reviewers' comments who enjoyed this. I really liked this movie. So many strengths - the subtleties of the relationship between Mathilda and Leon as well as a solid storyline. Holds up well considering how old it is. Gobsmacked at how good Portman's acting was...shows how bad she was in Star Wars.. the difference a stellar director makes!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
If you like this crowd and think Jonah Hill constantly swearing and saying tasteless things about women is funny, you'll enjoy this. I largely didn't...however gave it one star for Michael Cera's character and the cops.

i devoured all of series 3 in a one-weekend marathon. Easily the best spy series ever. It is so good it makes Oz dramas look like kindergarten (Kate Ritchie as a policewoman, puleese!). Superb acting, impecable storylines and the production values and pace put most movies to shame. Absolutely first class.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Only get this if you're a fan of Carrey. Zooey was the highlight, as was Terrence Stamp. A one gag movie that got stale for me quickly - watched most of it on fast forward.

You know what you're getting from these "Buddies"movies.....my 9 year old LOVED it....I went and did housework (same thoughts as previous reviewer). A nice fun movie for kids who aren't yet into tween movies and who like funny talking animals. Yes the puppies are cute. The 4/5 rating is my daughter's, not mine (LOL). I don't know how the human actors could do this with a straight face.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Both characters are well cast however the storyline has a few missing links and comes together in a rush at the end. Thought Fey
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This is NOT for kids. RW is quite creepy in this role. Sorry to spoil the plot but RW's son dies in a very unfortunate way and whilst he was a horrible person, becomes idolised by the school community in their misguided grief. I don't know why anyone would want to watch it. Don't bother putting it in your queue.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
A difficult one. Way too scary for kids and too boring for adults (well, me anyway). Didn't know anything about it beforehand and I was none the wiser 30 mins in - I turned it off. Not too sure what audience this is aimed at. I'm sure there was someone from Home
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
For a Drew Barrymore movie she's hardly in it. An OK movie (Ellen is very good) but it doesn't set the world on fire. Nice to see Juliette Lewis being suitably wild. Made me want to put on a pair of skates LOL.

I went to see Rob in concert on the basis of this DVD. Rob when he was truly awesome and on top of his game. A superb performer - one of the best concert DVD's you'll see. Even if you only like him a little bit, you'll love him after this. Very well filmed and put together. This is well worth buying (if it's still available) if you're a fan.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
This is a lot of self-indulgent nonsense (an "absurd notion" indeed). As another reviewer has noted, really only if you're a fan and feeling nostalgic. Anyone else will be watching this thinking "what the...?"
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
As a teenage Duranie I watched this over and over. As an adult I'd only get this if you're a true fan and are feeling nostalgic. Gee these guys really were HUGE in their day...it's nice to see them still going. The hysteria from the audience is very funny after all these years.

What a car. Herbie scrubs up well over the years. Lindsay was talented before she went by the wayside. Liked Herbie falling for the current VW Beetle. Good for kids too old for cartoons and too young for teen movies.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
If you're renting this for your kids you know what you're getting. No-one's going to win an Oscar for acting or cinematography.....it's a lot of harmless fun with an over the top storyline. I lost count of how many times my daughter watched this. This one's memorable for a teenage Megan Fox playing a horrible bitchy character - started being typecast young (hee hee!). 4 stars - my daughter's rating, not mine.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
What a waste of time. Silly story, every cliched slow mo fight scene you could think of and what was most annoying is the badly dubbed english that doesnt match the english subtitles. Very badly done.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I enjoyed this far more than I expected to. Edward...sorry, Rob can actually act and the other performances are solid too. Surprisingly emotional and tender, watch with subtitles because the detailed dialogue is quite moving. The younger sister's storyline was a standout heartbreak for me. Don't spoil it by finding out what the ending is prior to watching..... it's all the more moving because they show the people's reactions to what happened, rather than what actually happens. Very highly recommended.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Surprisingly watchable doco raises questions about the authorities and oil companies' roles in killing off the electric car. Most interesting of all are the car companies' apathy in embracing and promoting electric cars as a viable alternative to petrol. Conspiracy theorists will be nodding at the stranglehold of such key stakeholders and the insane reliance on oil. Similar situation to energy alternatives - there's too much money already tied up in present infrastructure that no govt will have the guts to make any real changes.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This is absolutely moronic. Some of their other movies have been really good but this one is woeful. Stupid characters, ridiculous story and it's boring. My daughter didn't like it either. All the characters are really unlikeable. Life's too short to waste it on this.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Golly was this really done in 1979? It still stands up very well today. What an iconic movie. Solid storyline, great FX, those extremely scary aliens, and Sigourney as Ripley. Go Ripley!
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Oh praise the lord for Sue Sylvester and Mr Schu. I missed the early episodes from tv and it was nice to go back to the start. Watch it with subtitles and you see all the wisecracks and good one-liners.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My 9 year old daughter liked this. I found it a bit boring and long and did some housework. The storyline is somewhat patchy and goes on a bit however the parts where the food falls out of the sky are very good.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Once I got over the gratuitous shots of Alba in her bikini, I quite enjoyed this movie. A pretty good storyline. For me it was similar to Fools Gold but better. OK for a Saturday afternoon when there's nothing on tv but you wouldn't watch it over and over again.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Now I know why I don't usually watch anything with KH in it. She's unlikeable and unbelievable in all her roles. Woeful. Avoid.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
This was much better than expected. Very dialogue-heavy (part of its charm). The Sarah Marshall character is purposely horrible and Russell Brand is obnoxious in a laugh out loud way and it's a relief when Peter ends up with the nice girl. The bonus bits are definitely worth watching. This is laugh out loud funny.

Yeah baby! You know what you're going to get when you watch Austin Powers. Whilst Dr Evil and Mini Me leave me stone cold...I do love Austin. Beyonce is good too. LOVE the union jack jaguar and mini - I want them!

Oh Tom what went wrong...oh yeah, that jumping on the couch thing. This movie reminds us of when he was cool and hot. Ignore the far-fetched plot and just enjoy it.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Good lord Kurt Russell was hot back then...no wonder Goldie hung onto him! The plot totally lost me....it must have had impact way back in the 80's. Interesting to see the part where Kurt is going through the ruins outside a plane crash into a movie theatre because whoever directed INXS "Listen Like Thieves" totally ripped this off and copied it as their music video (LOL). I'm not arty enough to appreciate the movie's apparent cult status.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I hated this movie. Saw it at the cinema and was disappointed it degenerated into a dumb zombie movie. At the end people in the cinema actually said out loud "you've gotta be kidding" type comments at the ending. Gee, it had so much promise. The first movie where I jumped off Smith's bandwagon...then I saw 20 mins of Hancock and jumped further off.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
An odd movie, you'll appreciate the weird humour/irony or be saddened by the underlying story, depending on your sense of humour. It made me quite sad and I felt for his wife. Had to watch it with subtitles - a very dialogue heavy movie. Worth a look only if you love Soderbergh or Damon (or both).
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Girl chipmunks singing, boy chipmunks singing.....what's not to like? My daughter LOVED this and watched it daily. A fun movie that kids understand and parents can watch and appreciate. As Dave says "Aalllviiiinnnn!!!!!" No doubt there'll be Chipmunks 3.

Thanks 'yall for your reviews. This was at the top of my list but after reading your reviews I sent it to the bin.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
A tight, very well done thriller. Superbly cast...James Cromwell is born to be the Pres and Morgan Freeman as a key CIA agent. Surprised how good Ben was too, If you like this genre, you'll really like this. Even though the storyline is slightly dated by now (the Yanks v the Russians) it still has resonance. Enjoyed it more than I expected to.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Very well cast - this movie is successful because of the casting of the four children. Would have liked to see more of a relationship between Caspian
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
Undecided on this one. Simon Pegg is truly obnoxious (Hot Fuzz is one of the worst movies I've ever seen) and Megan Fox is immensely annoying. OK but not great. Kinda liked the storyline but the movie drags on a bit.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Love this show. Much better without the ads on commercial tv. Sue Sylvester and Mr Schu rock. Perfectly cast. Nice to revisit old episodes. One of the few shows I can watch with my daughter that i don't have to explain what's going on. The singing is awesome.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Oh this is nauseating. The manic visuals
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
You'll either like or not like this movie - there's no inbetween. Agree with some of the other reviewers, it's a restrained movie with much communicated by looks
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Parents, this movie is very PG - my 8-year old daughter did not understand the story and I had to explain it all to her. Having said that, we really liked it. It's an awfully well-done "aliens getting back to their crashed spaceship" story and mums, you'll appreciate The Rock being in it. Not for kids who would be scared of aliens or lots of army guys using guns. If your kids can handle it, its a very very good movie. "at the start i did't understand but then on i knew more and more.I really liked when they got back home at the end.i also liked the two kids.at the end i really thought the spaceship was really awesome the way it flew" (from Caitlin)
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Haven't seen this in years. Made when Arnie was king of Hollywood, this is a lotta fun, made in the days before political correctness. Solid cracking storyline, the Predator is still awesome and yes I still love the scene where it's looking for Arnie and can't see him because he's covered in mud. This movie rocks.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
D'oh! My daughter really liked this. It bored me within 30 mins (no I'm not a fan of the show). Fortunately she thinks the characters are funny and all the adult/suss content goes over her head. Yes, she walks around the house saying "spiderpig, spiderpig...."
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Boring. Couldn't get past 40 mins. I find Jake G dull to watch.

A surprisingly good solid thriller. A touch implausible plot however Liam is very good and the movie hurtles along at full speed. Be careful who you talk to when travelling! Recommended.

A witty interesting movie. Need to watch it right from the opening credits or you miss the point of it. Ricky holds the movie together on his own - Jennifer

Another of George's more subtle roles. Not a lot happens - my boyfriend was bored senseless by it. Only for those who are rather partial to George's charm. Anna K is pretty good - not sure if her performance was Oscar-nomination worthy though.

My daughter LOVED this - hence the 5/5 rating. A bit cheesy, poor CGI however a lovely story, cute talking dogs and a happy Xmas ending make this rather nice. A good addition to the "Buddies' series. Great for 8-10 year olds who aren't sophisticated enough to think this silly.

Good golly I've seen this a few times now. My 9 year old daughter loves this movie. Nice fun and lovely to see the Roman landmarks. Rating is my daughter's.

A time capsule of a movie - very dated but it is a reflection of the times. Shocked to see how young Dolly

A great movie - need to concentrate all the way. The main character Ben is very well cast. Kevin Spacey is his usual slightly off/creepy self. Worth watching.

Jason Statham be still my beating heart. Hang on I'm back now. This isn't Oscar worthy by any means but gee he drives a car awfully fast and is extremely cool. And he kisses a girl. If you like him and the Transporter franchise you'll know what I mean.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Goodness me I found this dull. Turned it off after 30 mins....just didn't "buy" Leo as their characters. Surprising as I usually LOVE both actors (Leo is very good in Blood Diamond).
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
What a fuss about nothing. This is essentially an animated cartoon. Much preferred the "real actor" parts of this movie. Profoundly disappointing. James Cameron spent 10 years on this? I'd rather watch Titanic (and listen to the theme song) over and over than sit through this again.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
This is better on the big screen than small. Adore Robsten in real life however if I was Bella I would have gone with wolfman Jacob. The acting is insipid - why oh why can't all involved get better performances out of these guys. Eclipse had better be an improvement on this.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
At last, an Aus movie worth watching. All main characters are so believeable and the actor who is the autistic boy is a particular stand out. The relationship between the two young actors is gorgeously done. My husband and I have totally opposite taste in movies and both of us were moved by this.

This would have got 4 stars if the ending was different. Clive

Wall-E....Eva. Joy Joy Joy. How can you get so much emotion out of cartoon machines? Absolutely loved it. Just bliss. If you don't get teary you have a heart of stone.

If I never see a slow-motion bullet again I'll be happy. An OK movie however how many shots of slow-mo bullets can one take? James McAvoy an interesting casting choice. Ange looks surprisingly haggard.

I really really wanted to like this....it took ages to come through the queue to me. Surprised at how boring it was - I turned it off after 45 mins. Didn't get to the exciting bit. Maybe I should have stuck to it a bit longer.

Oh Jason Statham....be still my beating heart. He's too cool for school. If you like this genre, you'll like this.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
A better than expected movie. Mums will like Gerald Butler and Jodie Foster. One of the first non-cartoon movies my daughter enjoyed - needed to explain the storyline. She liked the seal. Intelligent and well done.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Surprisingly good - unexpectedly touching - my daughter and I both cried (twice). The Rock has never been more endearing.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
One of the better movies of this genre. Has a surprisingly solid storyline and is visually stunning - especially the scenes inside the palace, costumes and ninjas attacking from ropes. CYF and the leading actress give solid performances. If you like this genre, you'll probably really like this.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This ranks right up with "Hot Fuzz" as one of the worst movies I've ever seen. No wonder CF's career is in decline. Not funny, poor storyline, a waste of time. Not my sense of humour at all.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Beautifully filmed and quite epic however after 1 hour it lost me. Reading the other reviews...I probably should have stuck with it. Is this the first in a trilogy? Does anyone know if the other movies have been made yet?
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Oh my lord - this is awfully good. The CGI of the destruction is OMG out loud astounding. John Cusack (or his stunt double) gets an award for best driving. I was quite affected by the emotional side of this - the extreme loss of life should this happen and the premise that only those with billions of dollars are saved...what happens to the rest of us? Not for kids - it will prompt too many questions and the scenes of mass loss of life (trains
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
What a lovely movie this is. My 8 year old daughter loved it. Characters well thought out and very funny. A simple story very well done without the over the top moral message that so many kids movies have these days. Highly recommended for those under 10 (and their parents).
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Just as well Arnie was in this - liked the humour and references to the previous movies.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
All hail the mighty Eric Bana. Gee he can act. This is a loong movie but it's worth it. Disregarding the issue of who is right/wrong it's a very good movie. Highly recommended. Have to be in the right mood to watch it.

I was expecting Camp Rock 2 and was so pleased it was anything but. This is actually an intelligent, thoughtful and very good movie. Oh, it's entertaining too. Not sure who it's aimed at - it's too smart for youngsters and I have no idea what Tweens are into these days. My 9 year old daughter really liked it - had to explain aspects to her. Nice to see VH in a non-HSC role.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
SFX very good - especially the terracotta warriors coming to life. Far fetched story (come on, this IS a Brendan Fraser movie!) although it's what you expect from this franchise. The new Evy is OK and the son
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I so wanted to like this....but really didn't. The joke wore thin very early on for me unfortunately and I turned it off after 45 mins. Shame because I do like Ben Stiller
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Gee this makes the tv series look rather cheesy. This is a very updated version, which works quite well. A love interest for Crockett is the only emotional content. After a while the violence is a bit numbing. Crocket's mullet

Can't make up my mind about this. Is quite slow but the devil is in the detail and dialogue. Dance sequences are very good. Who knew that Neve Campbell can dance? Liked the main dance man. Had to watch this in short bursts - couldn't cope with it all at once. Only for those who love dance and the machinations and egos behind it.

Four stars for this one Harry. Love the story and the growing up of the main characters. Oh yes, Robert Pattinson (pre Twilight) is in it too. Particulary love the chemistry between Ron

Reminds me of a "less serious" Dan Brown-type movie. NC has no personality nor screen presence however the other actors are quite good. Ignore the implausible storyline and enjoy it for the light entertainment it is (it IS a Disney movie after all!!). Gotta say I was easily distracted and played my Nintendo DS for the second half, looked up from time to time and got the gist of the story. Very well filmed - great production values. OK but not great.

Thunderbark!! I adored this movie...more so than my 8 year old. I want the hamster ("I'll just go and get my ball") and cried when Bolt saved the girl from the burning building (yes I know it's a cartoon). Kudos to all involved. JT is awesome. A joy from start to end. A note on the scary scene - my daughter was really scared by the green-eyed man character and needed some reassurance/explanation.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
This was better than the Da Vinci Code. It moves at such a cracking pace that a lot of the content and true suspense of the book is lost. Tom Hanks is looking rather buff (it feels wrong to say that) and love who the bad guy is! Thought the ending with the crowning of the new Pope was nicely handled. Good but not great.

Oh Harry what happened? I couldn't get into this. Story was too slow and convoluted. Won't be rushing to watch the others.

Oh what a lovely, quiet movie. We loved it. Will be too slow and subtle for those under 8 and/or who prefer their movies LOUD and RAUCOUS!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
This is a lovely, quiet, gorgeous movie. My boisterous daughter was unexpectedly moved by it and cried several times (I cried too when the dog came back). What a antidote to the noisy, fast-paced, tween nonsense movies around at the moment. A solid storyline with a lot of nice-ness about it. Not for children under 8 - they won't understand it. The main girl is wonderful - reminded me of a young Dakota Fanning - and Cicely Tyson shines too. A real quality movie - mums may have to watch it with their children to explain it. Very highly recommended for girls.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Loud, overblown, silly story, overrated. I cleaned the house whilst it was on. The only life this franchise has left is to focus on the individual's stories, as per Wolverine.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
This is first-class!!! A stellar cast really hold this movie together. It seems very long however the delight is in the detail. Recommend to watch with subtitles - the dialogue is complex and a lot of the important bits will be missed otherwise. The best drama/thriller I've seen in a long time. Oh and it helped that Clive Owen is in it too (he acts as good as he looks). Very highly recommended.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Not being a fan of Tom since he jumped the couch, I was surprised at how good this movie actually was. Maybe his time as the good guy has gone and he should play bad guys!
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Golly this movie is just too boring for words. Nothing happens, I didn't "get" the storyline and ultimately didn't care what happened. Unless you really really like Asian cinema, don't bother.

Oh this movie is an absoute joy!!! Love the raining gumball scene! I don't like Adam Sandler but he is perfect in this role. My daughter and I love the mermaid dancing. If you have children this is a must-see together movie.

Having loved this as a child I have a soft spot for this movie. Very good - the songs stay with you.

This is very very good. The main cast are excellent and the movie is well filmed. Was this remade by Hollywood (Richard Gere?). Very worth watching.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
If our taxpayer dollars funded this mess I want my money back. This movie is rank. Had lofty ideas but didn't achieve them. The dialogue needs subtitles (yes I am familiar with Shakespeare) and the usually wonderful Sam Worthington is woeful amongst a cast who are even more woeful than him. The needless shooting murder of a young child is awful. No wonder the Aus movie industry is in trouble. Don't waste your time putting this in your queue, waiting for it to arrive etc etc - there are far more worthy movies than this. Avoid.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I unexpectedly liked this. Keira's doing her usual pouty trying to be sexy "thing" but it works in this movie. Mickey Rourke looks like he's just being himself.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I was more scared at the prospect of being stuck inside a cave and no-one ever finding the body rather than by the creatures (they're so obviously CGI generated). Yes, agree with other reviewers that the ending is somewhat lacking. Some nice frights/jumps along the way.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Arnie stop being the "Governator" and come back again as the "Terminator". This franchise needs you! Christian Bale has zero screen presence and the one noteworthy character is Sam Worthington (an actor to watch!). The only thing this movie has going for it is the CGI - it is amazing. Pity they didn't include a storyline
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Not scary unless you're scared of CGI monsters done very very well (similar to Cloverfield but better). Has a strong human emphasis, not just action for the heck of it. I shudder to think what the Hollywood remake will be like (boo!). If you're into hardcore gore give it a miss- you'll end up throwing things at your tv.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This may be blasphemy....but I couldn't see what the fuss is. Boring. Must have missed what makes this movie a classic.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
My 8-year old gave this a 5/5 - "it's awesome mum!". Can't get better than that. She didn't move off the couch once - it had her attention the whole time. This movie is a joy. Very highly recommended.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Pointless. Not funny. Not interesting. A waste of time. I don't have the sense of humour to appreciate these directors' movies. The nice people get killed.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Is better than the original. A lovely movie with lots of nice characters, lots of things happening , lots of fun and a very good cast. The "message" about taking competition too far is very well handled. Very recommended - my daughter loved it and I actually sat through the whole thing.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Heath owns this movie, to the point where Batman becomes irrelevant to the storyline (can you believe it??) The movie is superb when the Joker is in it, boring when he's not. Heath's mannerisms are amazing - Oscar worthy indeed. What a talent. Nice touch seeing Harvey Two Face "created". Michael Caine is a worthy Alfred. The producer will be hard pressed to make the next movie in this franchise- which direction to take now that Heath is no longer with us? Christian Bale has no screen presence to make the Batman character real or even likeable. Val Kilmer was a better Batman, that's saying something.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This is fun, if you can get past John Travolta being a woman. Strong supporting cast holds this movie up quite well. Good songs once you get to know them. Happy, bright
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Disney had better milk this juggernaut for all its worth 'cos in 2 years these guys won't be around (hello Hanson - remember them?). Can't sing, have no stage presence, audience interaction skills or even personalities. The behind the scenes "action" is laughable for the wrong reasons and really shows their deficiencies. Guest appearance from Taylor Swift underscores their lack of talent even more. Even my daughter wasn't thrilled and she's right in their target "tween" market. Very disappointing.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Whilst Mel is off the A list for his personal misdemeanours this movie is quite good. You have to be interested in the Incan (may have this wrong) history to appreciate the nuances. My boyfriend hated it. The violence will be offputting for some. A Braveheart for the South Americans. The behind the scenes extras are a treat.

Oh Dr Jones. Time to hang up the whip. Love the humour and tongue in cheek references to the earlier movies but I just couldn't sit through this and turned it off after an hour. Memo to self - never watch anything with Shia Le Beouf in it. Cate what were you thinking with that really bad Russian accent? Woeful.

This is a lot of froth and bubble about nothing. In the end I didn't care what happened to any of the characters. Interesting only to see how gorgeous the actos were when they were young.

After reading the mixed reviews I didn't know what to expect. I enjoyed this far more than I thought. Keira was quite good and it's the first movie of hers where she's done more than just pout. Ralph Fiennes plays the bad guy well. Having read the biography this movie certainly leaves a lot out however it's very well done and carries the emotions well. The houses, costumes

The animation is very good, especially the robots' faces, there's a lot of movement and colour and things happening. A nice story without it being too moralistic. I was unexpectedly moved by this movie. Born in 1970, I had no idea of the impact of Bobby Kennedy and the hopes that the American public had of his impending presidency. Emilio Estevez should stay behind the camera - he did an exceptional job directing this movie and the emotion is palpable. The cast is stellar and the splicing between archival footage and the newly-filmed scenes is very well handled. A great movie for when you're feeling serious and contemplative. Oh what he would have achieved if he had got into the Oval Office...maybe the US of A would be a much better place. The "making of" extra is well worth watching too.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Not ashamed to say I really like this movie...perhaps even more than my daughter. A lot of the humour went over her head and I don't think all kids below the age of 8 would like it. I got teary (twice) when the police dog got his badge back. Youngsters who are scared of big, mean, scary dogs may need a bit of reassurance from mum when watching this. For me this does put the wow in "chiwowa".

Goodness we take a lot for granted these days. Thank god for people like this. A little slow (fast forward the yelling in parliament if you want) and be very moved by the scene announcing the abolishment of slavery. Recommended if you're in a serious, contemplative mood. This isn't "Pride

Wow - this is a superhero movie for adults! A killer plot (ignore the obvious flaws in logic), amazing CGI and RDJ is very very good as the Iron Man himself. Watch the full credits for the bonus bit at the end of the movie. Not sure that the kids will like it. Gee RDJ's looking good these days - a welcome return to the big screen for him. Very highly recommended.

Would have liked to see the movie flesh out (pun intended) more of the emotional content of the book. I had a real emotional reaction to the book and this is my only gripe with the movie...apart from it being too short (another 30 mins would have been great). Having said that, the movie is very good. I don't quite "get" the whole "Robsten" thing but they certainly have chemistry and I liked the actors/roles of Edward's family. Looking forward to seeing the next movie.

Oh this is pure joy! Forget that it's Disney. My 8-yr old and I adored this movie especially the ending (who ends up with who) and that the characters come through from a cartoon into real life. The singing and dance numbers are fantastic, Amy's dresses are gorgeous, she's gorgeous, the intentional over-acting is wonderful (get the drift) and the 4 main characters are perfectly cast. The CGI is very well done and the bonus section is worth watching too. Very highly recommended, particularly for 8-year old girls who watch too much Bratz/Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana/tweens behaving badly etc (and who need to watch something so nice).
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Not sure what to say about this...definitely wouldn't have paid to see it at the movies but as a DVD it's quite OK. BA's character has a midlife crisis which sees some entertaining/interesting side stories and has a happy ending. I'm not doing a good job of selling this, am I? The title "Man About Town" bears no resemblance to the actual storyline. If you like BA then you may like this.

More fun from George, Brad and the crew. Ignore the plot holes and how quickly everything somehow comes together and enjoy it for the escapist fun that it is. CJZ is stunning and actually makes Julia Roberts look drab.

Sorry - this lost me after 2 hours. Acknowledging the very fine actors and their character intepretations, I just couldn't sit through it any more. Very complex

Oh - my recollection of my brother and I loving this as kids doesn't translate well over time. Maybe I've moved on. For real nostalgic fans only.

I really enjoyed this movie. An interesting spin on the usual King Arthur tale. Very well cast - all main males are totally believable (Clive Owen you can be my King Arthur anytime) and it's great to see Joel Edgerton in a strong role. Keira's character makes an unbelievable transition from prisoner to warrior woman and is the movie's only weak point....however the love interest is relevant. The costumes, makeup/ hair are first-class. The bonus section is a real treat.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Go Jack Bauer....Superman has nothing on you. I'm a real fan of this series. Love the woman President. My only gripe is Quickflix sending the first DVD only - just as it starts getting good it ends....and you have to find the next DVD and put it in your queue.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This is defnitely a PG movie - my 8-year old daughter needed to have much of the story explained and reassurance that the mouse wouldn't die. She was bored at the non-mouse bits. Aside from that she liked it and we both loved the happy ending. For Sesame Street fans watch for the cameo from the actor who plays Mr Noodle.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I unexpectedly really enjoyed this. As other reviewers have noted, the CGI is very good - loved the jumping around the world. Whilst HC's acting is still wooden there is some chemistry between he and RB (yes they did hook up on-set). SLJ looks like he's just there for a payday. Great storyline and the bonus section is a treat. Short in length, it could have done with about 20-30 mins more.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This is fantastic. A well-written, tightly scripted and very well cast spy thriller that will keep you guessing as to who is lying (and who isn't). A touch long (to be expected from this director) but it's worth it. Great surprise to see Vince Colosimo!!! Perfect casting with LDC
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
On its own this movie is OK. Eric Bana is a surprise as Henry VIII. In comparison to the book however this is a poor second rate movie. The characters are quite one-dimensional and the storyline is completely different from the book in many parts. The Director should be hung drawn
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I struggled with this movie, finding the violence against the high school students gratuitious and the main character misleading the children to steal their household goods reprehensible. Owen and the three main boys do have a certain charm and are quite funny (and extremely funny) in parts. Jury's out on this one.

If you like your movies testosterone-filled with action you'll hate this. If not, chances are you'll really enjoy it. With lesser actors this would be an average movie. In the hands of JD, KW

Hey this is quite good. Surprised it was made a few years ago. Liked seeing the cameos (as per other reviewers). Maybe Posh n Becks/Catherine

My 8-year old daughter didn't like this (strangely enough). She said it's a 0/10.

The animation of all non-humans is excellent but I couldn't sit through any of it. Yes I'm a fan from way back to the original in 1977. I hated this. The heart

An innoculous, by the book family movie. Nothing offensive about it, although nothing great at the same time. My daughter liked it well enough.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
Golly all the actors look young - spot a quick scene with Johnny Depp looking almost baby-faced. Would have made a big impact at the time although the world has changed since this was made - war is horrible wherever they're fighting it.

As usual, great chemistry between Ben

Oh this left me cold....I became bored after 30 mins. Would have been good at the time though.

What's with kids these days? My 8-year old found this absoutely boring until the basketball game. Then she liked it. Maybe you have to know who MJ is. She suprisingly recognised Bill Murray from Ghostbusters and was more excited about that. I can't work her out :)
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This is unexpectedly good. The cast are all excellent. A much better movie than Babel (similar genre). If you watch this and aren't moved by the scene with the father and young child (as depicted on the poster/photo left) you have a heart of stone. I am surprised by the venom of some of the bad reviews.... I really liked this movie.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
I wanted to be moved by this movie but wasn't. Cate
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
Interesting storyline however I was very disturbed and upset by the side story of what happened to Cruise's child. Wouldn't recommend.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
The CGI is extraordinary - the best "talking animals" by far in a movie. The casting of the children is spot-on and Tilda is a splendid White Witch. A good but not perfect adaptation of the novel - some of the 'heart/emotion' is missing and it left me a little cold. It must have cost a bomb to make...no wonder one of the key production companies isn't coming on board to make the 3rd movie.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
My 8-year old enjoyed it but not as much as the first one. Quite a good movie for the age group it's targeted at (I couldn't sit through it). Surprised they haven't made more of these...eg. Agent Cody Banks: Sydney, Madrid, NYC, Helsinki etc etc. The rating is my daughter's, not mine!
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This is woeful. Don't waste your time. This is the type of movie that "stars" do to supplement their income. There's no passion, no skill, no interest. Pity - as a concept it would have looked great on paper.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
This movie is worth watching for the realistic SFX alone - the wave decimating NYC, huge snow covering the city (as per the cover). Interesting storyline although as if Dennis Quaid would come back to NYC just for his son (hello, what about saving the rest of the population?).
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Fab clothes
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My daughter loved this. She's at the age where she wants to see real people in shows, not "baby" cartoons. Cody has his charm and it was good for her level. Suitably over the top gadgets and a lot of fun. Recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
You have to be interested in the royals to like the movie. I really did. Am embarassed that I didn't remember the extent of the public's grief at Diana's death. Inclusion of real footage was well handled. HM is excellent as HRH. Interesting perspective. The relevance of it all will however fade with time... even Camilla has been accepted now by the public.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
This movie misses the mark on all levels. The characters have personality bypasses, the CGI is so over the top it's ineffective and the storyline is woeful. Loved the original cartoon ("go speed racer go") - this is an example of how wrong a movie adaption can be. Susan, Christina, John
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I hadn't seen this movie for 10 years. Forgot how violent it was. Thanks-a-bunch for Frances McDormand's character (yah!) a burst of goodness amongst a group of horrible people. Even William H Macy's character is horrible.

I so wanted to like this movie but strangely didn't. My 7-year old daughter loved it (that's important) and was doing karate moves all weekend. Our listed rating is hers, not mine.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My 7-yr old took enormous persuading to watch this movie (????). Once she got past the first 10mins she and I were hooked. A lovely lovely movie without the usual "there must be a moral message". Not for those under 7 as they won't understand the story.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Gotta love a movie that has Matt Damon as a bad guy and LDC as a good guy with guts. LDC continues to impress (you almost forget him on the bow of that ship shouting that he's king of the world). Not all will appreciate the swearing. The number of shootings numbs you after a while. If this type of movie is your "thing" you'll love it. I did. A truly stellar cast holds it together.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My 7-year old daughter absolutely loved this movie. I found it annoying (but that's OK) but she could really relate to it. The storyline is nice, the kids are nice, some are precocious, the good kids win in the end and there are some great surprise cameos from grown-up celebrities. There's nothing in this movie that would cause parental alarm.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Whilst Clooney's character left me cold, I found the rest of the movie riveting. Quitely powerful performances from most of the cast with a sobering interconnecting storyline overall. The good guys do not always win, to everyone's detriment. I wish the world was brave enough to develop techology to challenge oil's supremacy. Excellent if you're in the mood for a serious movie.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Hey this is good! Genuine twists, great stunts, lots of suspense and a bumper storyline. Philip S-H is brilliant as the bad guy (now this guy can act!). A bittersweet reminder of how A-list Cruise actually was before he jumped the couch. Very recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Very effective. Pleased to see it not have the typical Hollywood ending. If a monster was to invade a city, this may be what realistically happens. Liked seeing the statue of liberty's head roll down the street.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This is fun to watch some 20 or so years after it was done. Watch the Bonus section - to think that Sly Stallone nearly had Eddie Murphy's part???!!!!! What struck me was how good the music fit the movie... go the Pointer Sisters
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
This movie had me on an emotional rollercoaster... the young Briony is well-cast and the impact of her careless actions will have you thinking well after the movie has ended. Beautifully filmed - the war scenes are particularly moving. Watch the Bonus section - the "making of" section is a treat.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
My daughter loves this. It's nice clean fun, the girls turn into mermaids
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I loved this...even though is not historically accurate (the revolution is barely mentioned). KD is great and the director simply brings a different, fresh angle to a small part of this historical character's personna. Court life looks incredibly boring
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
An enjoyable movie - special kudos to the hair/makeup/costume designers. Weird in that the story seemed a condensed history on Mowtown, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, rise of Disco
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Wow - this is first class. The 3 main leads are excellent, the story compelling, the violence that innocent people endure is heartbreaking and the corporate greed is horrendous. I won't be buying diamonds anymore. Very very highly recommended -one of the best movies I have seen for a few years.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
What's that Skip? Sonny's stuck in a landslide!!! The first thing my 7-year old daughter said when the DVD started was "does Skippy talk?" "No but she does everything else". Sorry to insult an icon but this series hasn't travelled the test of time well...it's very dated. Yes I still know the theme song word for word. For real nostalgic fans only.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
Ooh don't cross Judi Dench or she'll get you! I found this movie uncomfortable to watch - the relationship between Cate Blanchett's character (and the resulting aftermath) is difficult to sit through, and Judi Dench's character is just evil. Very well acted. Bill Nighy is an unexpectedly nice suprise as CB's husband.
(Maybe) - review by Carolyn
This movie is very formulatic. Troubled teen (tick), perves on hot new neighbour

I loved this until 3/4 of the way through and then lost interest in the spiritual aspects of it. Nice ending though. Much much better than I expected. Oh to be able to travel to other planets and survive the journey!. Great solid acting from all main characters. A must-see for true sci-fi fans. Fantastic to see an intelligent, well-directed sci fi movie without aliens blasting humans (as quite a few of the other reviewers have also noted).
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I really liked this. Similar to "The Prestige" (same era, common theme). All 3 main actors are excellent. The twist is very nicely handled. Recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Golly I struggled with this for the first hour and then things kind of started happening. You can feel GC's fatigue and pain. If you are inpatient and prefer fast pace this is not for you. It's a very subtle movie. The ending makes it all worthwhile - nicely handled.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Suspend your disbelief at Jodie Foster being a vigilante. This movie is believable. I found myself cheering for her as she gets revenge on the 'baddies' and the good cop is on her side. Very watchable.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
Crocs don't rule! This movie is all the better for not showing the mighty beast until the end. Michael Vartan is good to look at. Cinematography of the NT makes you want to jump on a plane and go there. Surprisingly good. If you're squeamish about crocs don't borrow it.

No wonder this won so many Oscars. FANTASTIC. Stellar cast, super storyline. Interesting to see CJZ

The joke runs out 30 mins into this movie. Only watch if you're a Will Ferrell fan.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
This is far better than you'd expect. The three main characters are fabulously acted and you'll be happy to spend 100 mins of your time watching this. The bonus features are really enjoyable too. CJZ has never been so likeable.

I couldn't watch more than 45 mins of this movie - life's too short to sit through this. Found it slow

I adore this movie. Charlize, Mark
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
This movie is over-rated...although points to the creators for developing a concept that has been much-copied since. I was more creeped-out by the guy hiding in the cupboard in the girl's room than anything else and my stomach was churning at the end of it. Gotta say, I'm not a fan of horror movies and I won't be watching any of the other Saw movies. All of you horror fans can have this series to yourselves!

As a rule I don't like Adam Sandler however I loved him in this - maybe it's the hair

I really liked this - actually more than my 7-year old did, especially the mother/daughter storyline.

Perfectly cast. Watch when you're in the mood for a musical. The behind the scenes bonus feature is very good.
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Surprisingly disappointing. The two lead actors are stunning, as is the cinematography. The voice overs are truly annoying and the story suddenly falls in a heap. In the end I didn't care who lived

M. Night Shyamalan please stop making movies. This is so formulatic that it's blatantly boring - I watched it on "fast forward" and laughed out loud at the ridiculous twist at the end/premise of the whole movie. The usually bodacious Mark Wahlberg is wooden, the usually watchable Zooey Deschanel has one expression throughout. This would have been a great movie in the hands of a different director. Terrible.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
the plot is very complex - if you duck out to make a cup of coffee you'll miss something important. quite Ok but wouldn't rave about it.

As a young teenager this was the first movie I ever cried over. As an adult it still has impact - to me it now illustrates the futility of war, whatever side you're on. Beautifully filmed and exceptional performances by all. A must-see.

Length isn't everthing. This didn't hold my interest beyond 2 hours. Maybe some editing would have helped. Having said that...Pacino was fantastic.

This is OK. My expectations were high, having been spoilt by the new Battlestar Galactica series - now that's scifi done right! This was quite enjoyable though but not wow-material.

Gee this is over-rated. The violence

This movie stands up well over the years. Better than the original. If you have the time, watch the extended version (2 1/2 hours long) it's worth it. Go Ripley!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Fantastic!!!!! Brilliantly acted, well-filmed and very well done. Highly recommended. A genuine, original thriller/action movie in a genre that is fast-becoming predictable in the hands of other film-makers.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Fantastic. Confusing in the first half - stick with it - the plot twists are great. Josh Hartnett, Ben Kingsley
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
If you like "Borat" you'll like this. If this is supposed to be satire or at least funny, then I'm Catherine Zeta Jones. Stupid story, stupid violence. Life's too short to watch abysmal movies like this. Avoid.

very very funny - thank god the English did this instead of the Americans. Laughed for all the wrong (right?) reasons.

I unexpectedly liked this. The four guys are good. The first half is especially funny - the second half loses the plot somewhat but stick around for the ending (loved the Extreme Makeover of the bike gang's pub).
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Anthony Hopkins is brilliant as the bad-guy and Ryan Gosling is excellent as the good-guy. Thrillers are a bit formula-like these days - a bit of "wait until the twist at the end" but the superb acting lifts this above the usual.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
I gave up on this 1 hour in and then read the other reviews and thought "what?". Just couldn't take the slowness of it and found Casey Affleck's character torturous to watch. Maybe I should try again and just watch from where I stopped....I've obviously missed something along the way in watching this.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
Johnny Depp is the only good thing about this movie. Fast forward it through Orlando's wooden acting and Keira's pouting to JD's scenes. It's far too long and a big fuss about nothing. Disappointing.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
A bit fuss about nothing. I so wanted to like this....but couldn't. Johnny Depp is the only good thing about it. This franchise leaves me cold. I haven't been able to sit through any of these movies.

This builds on the previous two series - as one of the other reviewers has noted you definitely have to watch the previous series before tackling this. Absolutely awesome!!! This is how sci-fi series should be done - can't wait for the fourth season!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Carolyn
Essential viewing for all Sci fi fans. It's better than the first series, if that is possible. One that you'll sit up till all hours of the night to get through.

My 7-year old daughter loved this although I had to explain the parents are divorced/the girls didn't know they were twins etc etc. Lindsay Lohan is fantastic - she sure showed much talent when young

A real surprise. Fabulous. Breathes new life into a dead franchise - it really is that good. Superb casting - Christian Bale is effortless as Batman and Michael Caine as Alfred is a joy. A very rare 5/5 from me.

Borat is best served in very small doses - to endure a whole movie of him is too much to bear. A lot of fuss about nothing. I hated it.
(Don't bother!) - review by Carolyn
I thought my daughter would really like this but she was only lukewarm about it (aged 7). She got sad that Steve Irwin had passed away and watched only one episode. A shame really because it's very well put together, very interesting and Bindi is quite charismatic.

This is rather a good way to spend nearly 2 hours. Scarlett is really natural, the child actor not as annoying as you'd expect and Alicia Keys is wonderful as Scarlett's best friend. Won't set the world on fire but it's quite a good movie.
(Excellent) - review by Carolyn
An interesting movie. Hard to review. Worth a look if you want something dark beyond the usual "American" style movies of this genre. Would have liked more contrast between the good
(Worth watching) - review by Carolyn
Surprisingly I hadn't seen this till now. My 6-year old daughter really liked it although she needed an explanation of what the robbers were doing and that the kid was OK at home, that his family did love him (and no that wouldn't happen in real life). Lots of fun. Gee Macaulay was cute when he was young.

a very detailed, intriguing movie. I didn't understand the key "twist" at the end at first - it was truly unexpected and a friend had to explain it to me!! Once I understood what had happened it was a real "OMG" moment. You have to watch

Girly girls (and their mums) will love this. It's much better than what you'd think it would be!! Once you get past the hair/make up/fashion "thing" it's got a great storyline which emphasises nice-ness, friendship

My daughter LOVES this movie. It's colourful, fast-paced and the casting is spot-on (the actor who is Shaggy was born for that role!) and it's a lot of fun. Enough of the original humour for us who grew up watching the cartoon series.

Surprisingly OK. Hugh Jackman makes a great bad guy. Scarlett & Woody have a nice, natural rapport. Actually liked it more than I expected. Good for when you want a quiet, wordy (lots of dialogue) kind of film.
