Once again, not as compelling as the first movie, but still enjoyable (particularly the ending). I probably wouldn't necessarily recommend the extended cut however, it was awfully long and not sure it added anything (not that we watched the abridged version). Still a good watch overall.

Not as compelling as he first movie, but certainly still as enjoyable, though we are still watching the Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest (i.e. they are two halves - or indeed 4 quarters - of the same movie).

I stopped watching this farce of a movie after about the first half hour. Typical Spielberg schmaltz - the guy couldn't direct a real drama if his life depended on it. Take Black Beauty combine it with Lassie, and the try to make it original by putting in a WWI setting, epic fail. OK the cinematography and special effects were good, and the acting was pretty good and in fact the script wasn't bad either, but the narrative and the direction is what makes this a typical Spielberg gong. If you like your movie without an ounce of realism, pathos or drama then this movie (and in fact everything Spielberg has done since AI) is for you. I can actually see that if this was a PG or G film (i.e. it was made for kids) then the schmaltz might work, but how can a grown adult absorb 141min of this treacle. Go back to producing TV Steven.

For it's genre (and you have to be a zombie film lover to enjoy this one) it doesn't do to bad a job. Love the African setting (African zombies, African landscape). Really like the return to the slow moving shambler type zombie (ala Romero) and it's nice for it to be a dramatic zombie film (rather than tongue in cheek) . For a zombie film I liked the period of quietness in the film. However, it would have gotten four stars from this zombie connoisseur if there were a few less zombie attacks along the way (they get a little predictable) and also if some of the plot opportunities (running out of water, the baby) had been taken advantage of a bit more (they were sort of introduced and then in the next scene discarded). The acting was reasonable for a zombie flick, the script wasn't bad, special effects pretty good. All in all I would recommend to the zombie-flick fan.

Just brilliant stuff. A must see for Aussie and British audiences. Performances (especially Wenham - is their a character type he can't do?) are just outstanding.

I understand the Filmmaker tried to do something a little bit different here, some different cinematography and a different approach to narrative (hence it's award at Cannes). However, at the end of the day we simply didn't think it made much of an impression and (with the exception of the somewhat frustrating - and in my mind not very clever - ending) was a bit obvious. Spoiler Alert!*** For example, my wife says about 30 min into the film - I'm just waiting for him {son} to start sleeping with his sisters, and 30 min later, the obvious happened ***Spoiler Alert!

I am giving this two stars (rather than one) because the costumes and scenery where just outstanding (and I can't fault the performances) however the narrative was next to non-existant. It felt like a teenage girl trashy romance novel set in period piece. If I saw one more scene of Kirsten Dunst "whisping" through a scene like Ophelia on ecstasy I was going to vomit. There was as much depth to this film as crepe paper. OK I get that Marie Antoinette lived a life of uber-luxury and decadence. Did I have to sit through two hours of this pain to get that? No. A 30 min short film would have done the trick! :-) Unless you are into major teenage girl princess fantasies, you might want to give this one a miss.

Awesome bloodfest. Lives up to its name and the horror monster booby-fest genre. Heaps of beautiful people being eaten alive. It had me in stitches and having to rewind some seasons for their pure awesomeness. Just loved it! hehe

Wow. Awesome movie. Not what I was expecting at all - I was just thinking this was going to be another survival/horror/action film. And while there was the horror element, the other side to this story - dealing with death - this was just brilliant. If you are after a horror werewolf/wolf movie, then this one might not be for you. If you are after a different exploration of life and death, then this is for you.

The Cohen Brothers do it again - not their best mind you, but still funny and quirky.

A classic.

We had fun with this... There was nothing ground-breakingly new. Alien, End-of-the-World, Agent J and K try to prevent it, but as I said it was still fun. If you liked 1 and 2, then you'll enjoy this.

A great girly flick. Even for a boy!

OMG! I thought Zombie Apocalypse was bad. Not as bad as this woeful attempt at a zombie flick. It wasn't funny. It wasn't scary. It wasn't anything except 95mins of mind numbing boredom! I think this must have been done on a shoestring budget in that the clearly couldn't afford either a screenwriter, an editor (some scenes just dragged on indefinitely) and certainly couldn't afford any decent actors. At least with Zombie Apocalypse they had [Spoiler Alert!] some cool Tiger Zombies at the end, all this had was an endless final scene of vomit wrenching smaltz. I agree with narkfestmojo - Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Not the worst, but certainly not the best Zombie flick.. Ving Rhames played Ving Rhames, and other than that the other performances where pretty bad. CGI blood and gore was pretty poor, and the plot was a bit - we've seen it all before. Watched Cockney's vs Zombies last week, and that made this film look all the worse. Only redeeming feature was the nice little zombie twist in the last 3 min - that's what saved this from one star for me.

A visually beautiful film. Robert Redford has perhaps created a new genre of film - cinematographical nostalgia. This is a simple story, and to be honest with not a strong narrative, but he still manages to produce something touching and beautiful. What a master.
(Excellent) - review by Damien
A really solid thriller, with great performances by McGregor and Cattrall.
(Worth watching) - review by Damien
While the acting was fantastic, Phillip SH is brilliant as ever, for a thriller or even a drama this failed to build any suspense, and the nett effect of jumping back and forth was to slow the movie down to the point that you felt like you were wading through cinematographical mollases (or treacle if your English). If it wasn't for the great performances (though I must confess I think Albert Finney is now well and truly past it - take a leaf out Peter O'Toole's example Albert) I would have given this film only one star.

Not a bad little flick. Quirky with some great characters (loved Tim Finn and Heath Franklin's characters - never trust a man who calls you "Old Son" :-)
(Worth watching) - review by Damien
A fantastic mixture of suspense-horror and drama. We really enjoyed this one.

Visually great, but really just a bit of a rehash of the first film (though the Krill characters were great)
(Worth watching) - review by Damien
Shocking. Awful. This movie had no idea what it wanted to be... horror comedy, horror mystery, sex fantasy (as in a teacher and his student). 80% of the movie was dialogue between two pretty inane characters, and even Brett McKensie and Rhys Darby couldn't save this woeful excuse of a film. Inexpensive and independent doesn't need to be bad, or if it's going to be bad at least go the whole hog - ala Black Sheep and Brain Dead.
(Don't bother!) - review by Damien
My memory has served me poorly regarding this movie... I thought it was good, perhaps it was when I was an acne riddled hormone driven adolescent who thought roshamboing was hilarious. But rose coloured glasses off... this was just terrible, and the ending.... horrendous.

Great stuff. Can't wait for the next disc and the next season.

Not as funny on the second watching (probably some of the shock value has worn off), but still a bit of fun. Still love "Montage" and "I'm so lownlee"

Just bloody awful! Look I love a good NZ b-grade film as much as the next nerd, hey I have Brain Dead, Bad Taste and Eagle and Shark in my collection! But this wasn't even a good b-grade film - not even Jemaine Clement's shenanigans could save this one. The two major running gags - the voice over of english on top of actors speaking english, and that the Ninja hero was, you guessed it, a big Tongan (better suited as a prop or a forward) were funny for about the first 5 min, then just got lame. Look there were a tiny number of semi-humorous gags (misplaced/inappropriate sponsors) but I am afraid this movie simply does not live up to its heritage (such as those PJ films named above and of course the pinnacle of NZ flims... Black Sheep). My summary... Epic Fail. Try again.

A great adaptation! Captured the scary essence of the original story.

Just great stuff. This is such a clever retelling of an American classic, with great homage to the original movie and book scattered throughout. We really enjoyed this.

Love this movie. Gotta get me the book to read!

Just brilliant. The absolute ultimate unrequited love story. Hopkins and Thompson are just at their best.
(Excellent) - review by Damien
Mmmm... a lot of effort gone into making Milla look cool (special effects, of heaps of fight scenes), and not a lot of plot or depth to characters. A lot of the lines where uber-cheesy (I suppose that's the comic book coming through). Fans of the comic book may get a kick. Me, I couldn't wait for it to be over and watch another Resident Evil.
(Don't bother!) - review by Damien
Still holds well after all these years. Timothy Hutton was a great actor even at such a young age (it's interesting how Cruise and Penn get higher Billing than Hutton on the Quickflix jacket - they aren't even mentioned in the opening credits of this film).
(Excellent) - review by Damien
As far as ScyFy Channel (i.e. Television) movies go, not to bad, but in the scheme of things not that great. I would have given it one but Sean Bean was half-decent and the South African backdrop wasn't bad.

Just brilliant! And the score... it makes the film.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting. Great (if a little long) action/battle scenes, with great impact on BluRay. If anything my minor gripe is that it is a little long.
(Worth watching) - review by Damien
Spielberg at his best. In fact a movie where his usual schmaltz counts in favour of the film, rather than against. But what makes this film outstanding and timeless is the brilliance in the acting. Whoopi Goldberg since this film has been seriously underutilised (maybe at her own volition) as a serious actor. The very subtle facial expressions that communicate so much. Probably Danny Glover's best performance, before or since and Oprah Winfrey was a delight to watch. I have to admit to having a strong leaning towards stories that feature men as their major focal point (Yes, while not a misogynist, I am not enamored with the Girl Flick) but this movie for me is the exception to that rule. I could watch this film over and over again. Just Brilliant.

A great true story. Viva La Mexico! The Kids who acted in this were just great.

We really enjoyed this. Personally I saw the twist but it as still a good watch. And it confirmed for me again, why I am such a huge fan of Paul Giamatti.

Great idea, and a reasonable attempt for a mid 80's NZ film, but unfortunately still falls short.

Just fantastic! What a great comic re-take of your hillbilly/woodsman horror. Just some classic scenes. And as always, Alan Tudyk's comic timing - absolutely brilliant.
(Excellent) - review by Damien
Terrible. If I could give this half a star I would, and that would just be for the sound track. B grade sci-fi/horror films can be great, as long as they don't take themselves seriously. This is an epic fail because it tried to. Whoever played the good vampire - OMG, I have seen better acting in Porn! Shocking. Just shocking. :-(
(Don't bother!) - review by Damien
Not what I was expecting, and I mean that in a good way. Really enjoyed this. Had a very "The Mission" like plot basis - i.e. repentance and sacrifice. Andy Lau was just brilliant - thoroughly convincing as both a ruthless warlord and as a repentant monk. The kung fu sequences where very well choreographed, but weren't over done and more added flavour and depth to the film, rather than dominating it. Cinematography was brilliant. This movie stands apart from its contemporaries for its sophisticated plot, three dimensional characters but binding it all together in a visually enticing experience. Also loved the support role of Jackie Chan. Great stuff!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
Great stuff. Really enjoyed this. Richard Roxburgh is brilliant at the intimate scenes, but I have to admit he is a bit unbelievable in the "I am an alpha male and I am now shouting" scenes - he had a similar problem as Dracula in Van Helsing, and Ioan Gruffud's American Accent was atrocious. I am beginning to believe that the man can only play one character well - Horatio. But apart from these minor gripes this was a spell binding thriller.
(Excellent) - review by Damien
Didn't really live up to my expectations. I feel with some of these mainland Chinese productions that there is a little over-emphasis on fervent expressions of Chinese Nationalism, that is often melodramatic and occasionally wanders into the realms of subtle propaganda. The concept was good, some moving scenes, but could have been better.

Awesome, wonderful, moving and real. Geoffrey Rush is perhaps the finest actor of the 21st Century, oh and the rest of the cast aren't bad either.

Absolutely Brilliant. We had to pause it twice in the film we were laughing so hard. And this is coming from someone who usually stand American RomComs. Just a brilliant script, some fantastic acting - and love a movie that can be funny and make a point at the same time.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
This was a barely passable film. It could have been a great film, except of one thing.. Seth Rogen. He has yet again played himself, and I don't know what the producers were thinking - oh that's right, Seth Rogen was a producer! I get the homage to Bruce Lee's Kato (and the fact that Bruce Lee was much more awesome in the TV series than the super hero he was suppose to be a side kick to), but it was a flimsy premise to base a whole film on. Nonetheless the movie was saved from the bin pile thanks to the character of Kato was awesome (well done Jay Chou) and the action scenes were cool, and the Black Beauties absolutely rock!
(Maybe) - review by Damien
Lots of fun. Small downside is that at the beginning of the film the action scenes are a little over done. Big upside though... No Kiera Knightly and that endless pout (the only expression she can do). Fantastic to see Penelope Cruz, who is not only sexier, but can actually act!

Awesome. So well done, you really leave this film feeling disturbed, as you should be. Second only to Van Dieman's Land in horrific effect. It goes to show that the horrors of true life so out do the horrors of fiction. Great Direction by Justine Kurzel.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
This is certainly something out of the ordinary. I have to admit to finding some of the accents a little difficult to follow at times (particularly Saint Kitten's affected feminine whisper, when combined with a Northern Irish Accent) and given this we were frustrated to find that there wasn't a subtitle track. But certainly a very intriguing story.

I never get tired of watching this film. The great costumes, sets, music and fine acting. It is in my top 10 of all time.

Really enjoyed this. The basic premise was a nice twist on the usual angel concept. Though it has been compared to Inception, really has very little similarities. We both enjoyed this thoroughly. As a minor thing - loved that the "Bureau" was all late 50's/early 60's in fashion/design. It was easy to miss, but the reference to their reintervention post-Cuban Missile Crisis is a nice explanation. That was neat.

Just a brilliant piece of cinema. Steve Le Marquand's performance in this is just one of the all time greatest of Australian film. Even though I new the twists in this film, his stunning performance still had me captivated. Jeremy Sims - OK he is a bit of pretentious you-know-what - but boy can he make a film and a half.

Just awesome. Bill is just so funny and talented. If you are a fan, you must check out the little doco about the tour that is in the extras, just great - and I love that Bill is also a bird nerd (just like Bill Oddey, or is it Oddi). Anyway, a great live show.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
This is still a great enjoyable film, however as a bit of a history nerd the more I find out about how historically inaccurate this movie was, the less I have enjoyed it. And the funny thing is, that the true history of William Wallace was just as exciting and action packed, so why Mel Gibson and co seemed to feel the need to so rewrite history is beyond me. But it's still a fun ride.

Not Simon and Nick's greatest - Sean of the Dead is still out there as one of the all time greatest - but still fun with some great moments. Love the homage to films such as ET, Aliens, Close Encounters, Star Wars etc. Nick Frost just cracks me up and Seth Rogen was well chosen for the part. Also good to see a leading lady chosen in a Hollywood comedy that, while still attractive, wasn't a starlette but was middle aged (to match Simon Peggs character) and looked 'real' (I am sure most of you know what I mean). Overall a gentle comedy and a fairly straightforward storyline. Thumbs up. Looking forward to what these two guys do next.

I have waited over 2 years to receive this DVD, and was severely dissapointed that when I finally got to watch it, it skipped on average every 10 minutes! But this aside... As a narrative it was obviously hamstrung by the prohibition on showing the image of the prophet, though I would argue more hamstrung by not being able to hear his voice - which lead to a lot of overacting by the other actors while in his presence, and too many contrived scenes to get around this issue. All in all no better or worse than other epic religious movies of its period, though (and the reason I waited 2 yrs), it was pleasant to see the story of the birth of Islam done in English. More should know this story.

A great film - especially for the kids. Deadly Far...errr Dart gun had the kids in stiches. Steve Carell - does such great voice acting. The classic line from the whole film? "He's so Fluffy... I think I'm gonna Die!". We are going out and buying this one to add to our collection. :-)

I can see why Chrisian Bale won the oscar for Best Support with his portrayal of Dicky - particularly when you get to see a clip of Dicky at the end. However, overall - even though the performances were good - this movie failed to captivate me. Perhaps this could be because the subject matter - boxing - doesn't interest me much, and the boxing movie has probably been pretty much been done. If you are into boxing or Boston this film will be for you.

Just shocking. Can't wait for Jack Black to play a different character in a movie rather than just the cool-rocker-slob - getting a bit tiresome there JB. There is a chance that Jonathon Swift will come back as a zombie and find the makers of this film to wreak revenge. And I would be 100% behind him.

I am a big fan of the female lead action genre. Alien series, Resident Evil and one of my favs is Tank Girl. This just tries way to hard to fall, no, force its way into that genre. It's like Zack Snyder said - I'm gonna make a kick arse hot-chick action flick - don't worry, I'll figure out the plot and characters once we have done the action stuff, no worries. Yes worries! The plot (and major plot device of a dream in a dream) does not work, the characters are all two dimensional (though they all look great in their outfits) and the dialogue is cliched, and clumsy and made me wince "Remeber girls... If ya stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything" - sounds grandiose, but had bugger all to do with the scene at hand. Yes the fantasy scenes where cool, but perhaps a better director/producer/writer team could have made something decent of the concept. Watch it at your peril.

What can I say - awesome. Enough homage for the fans, and plenty of action and thrills for those new to the Star Trek universe. Great stuff. And Keith Urban rocks as Bones!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
Pretty dissapointing, particularly given the star studded cast. This may have been a good adaptation (I have never read the comic) but felt it tried to be both a comic book hero movie and a tough western and failed on both counts. I think the script was pretty flimsy and my god did they overcook Jonah Hex's motivation. We got this is a revenge film! You don't have to repeat it over and over again! I think this could have been so much more.

A lot of fun, we both enjoyed it thoroughly. I think the character of Alan really makes the film though. Without him I think the movie would pretty ordinary. But he is in it, and he is bloody funny.

I enjoyed this far greater than I was expecting I would. A reasonable plot, with great special effects. With a great tribute to the first movie.

This is not what I was expecting. The only thing I had heard was that it was dark, and that it was. I would usually not sit through a film about ballet (or dance for that matter), but this kept me riveted to the screen from beginning to end. You just didn't know which way it was going to end. Fantastic stuff. My wife's rating is 5 stars and a must see.

I am a Cohen Bros fan, so am biased. Just love the quirk of each character, that is what the Cohen Bros do best. Loved Jeff Bridges character, and that of the little girl. A lot more fun than I was expecting.

I put off watching this movie for years, because I thought it would have the effect that it did. Very confronting. I don't think this film pulled any punches, when Nick Notle's character (Canadian General) says to Paul (Don Cheadle) "You are sh*t" it was about the most bloody honest dialogue they could have used. Because he nailed it as to why the international community was prepared to stand by and do nothing. If Rwanda had oil, like Libya and Iraq, it would have troops in there like a shot.

Look if your a fan of Mill and the RE series, you are gonna love this one. Action/fight scenes and CG are pumped up a notch, characters are cool, acting pretty good. This is no brain teaser, the plot is fairly predictable, the characters (at least the new ones) fairly two dimensional, but it is heaps of fun. If you didn't like any of the RE before now, why are you bothering!?

My wife and I hadn't watched any of the twilight series, but this was still a bit of fun - we kind of generally got the comic references to the melodramatisised teen angst/romance/lust/troubles that is the reason we have never watched any of the twilight series. A few giggles, but I think you would get a lot more out of this is if you get more of the specific references.

Decent fun, faced paced family movie. Nothing original (variation on Starman and ET plot), but suprised that Dwayne Johnson did a half decent job (thought he would ham it up but he didn't). Worth the watch (particularly for the 7 - 12 year olds)
(Worth watching) - review by Damien
Interesting enough, but just felt, given the subject matter, that it didn't grip me the way it should have. I am not sure if it was the perfomances that were a little flat, or that the screenplay didn't do it. I thought the affair with the student was a major distraction from the main narrative (and could have been placed much further in the background), and I felt the attempt at a punchy ending just didn't hold the pathos I think it was aiming for.

Loved it. Quirky, daggy - haven't we all met someone like the character played by Jemaine (though mostly when we were teenagers)? I like another reviewers (Toby H's) comparison to Napolean Dynamite. I would also compare the quirkiness to Nacho Libre - if you are the fan of these films and/or a fan of the flight of the conchords, you are bound to enjoy this light hearted quirky adventure. Love the animated scenes.

Who would have thought. 5 years ago, you couldn't drag me to see a Leo DiCaprio film, and now he is teaming up with Martin Scorsese. I wonder if Leo has matured and improved, or was it just he was never offered the parts to stretch his talent. A great film with a great supporting cast. It builds the tension from the very opening scene, and manages to maintain this throughout. And this just adds to the amazing plot twist (no more said on that - no spoilers). Just a great suspense/who-dunnit/drama.

What I find amazing about this story is that it had been kept under wraps for so long. I have seen one of the craters in northern France, made by a mine which was a small one compared to that exploded near Ypres, I can hardly imagine the destruction it must have wrought. The film itself has some good solid performances - Brendan Cowell is a consumate actor (see Noise if you haven't already), and it is supported by a really fine cast (though can we get someone other than Bob Franklin to do a Pom? C'mon everyon knows he has lived in Australia like forever!). A really great Aussie story and a great film. I shall be buying this one and adding it to my Aussie film collection.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
A masterpiece. Both captivating and horrific at the same time. Captivating in its cinematography - you can see each shot has been carefuly and meticulously planned in every detail. Horrific in its so very real depiction of a horrific event (or should that be events?). And the other fascinating element is how the antagonists are portraited. Apart, of course, from their gruseome acts, the film maker does not attempt to villify them. He allows us to access their lives, and lets us be the judge of their motives, as well as their actions. Very powerful stuff.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
A brilliant piece of film making. The suspense is maintained throughout, primarily by limiting the exposition (which certainly seperates the film from most Hollywood suspense thrillers). The ending is typically non-Hollywood. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has made a masterpiece here.

Just bloody Awesome. Funny, quirky, doesn't take itself too seriously and in many ways subtle. Not what we were expecting, but sometimes the unexpected is exciting. But probably only for Gen Y and a few of us nerdy Gen X's.

A good movie. Amazing animation (would love to have seen it in 3D) and agree with others it was great to hear those Aussie accents coming through. However I felt there was some draw backs (especially for the kids). Pace was to fast as if it was trying to cram too much in (I wasn't suprised to read afterwards that it was based on 3 novels) - trying to keep up with all the character names was difficult and you just felt like it was skimming over the surface of a deeper plot. Agree with others - a bit dark and confusing for the kids. So it kind of wasn't sophisticated enough for me as an adult and too consuing for the kids. But still worth a watch.

I think those that dislike slow biographical dramas may not enjoy this film, however after just recently reading Irving Stone's "The Origin", I found this movie insightful and moving. To think the Man who is attributed to bringing about the greatest conflict between religion and science, himself was torn by the same conflict in his life. My only criticism is that with the scene's with his daughter Annie - it is often unclear what is a flashback, memory and delusion. Still for anyone that wants to understand this great Man, it is worth a watch.

This is one of the better in the RE series. I think it's great to see Mila Jovovich definetely stamp her place up there with Sigourney Weaver as number one kick ass chick! :-)

Just a great, post apocalyptic movie. I am not usually a big fan of Will Smith - but I think he does a stirling job pulling off effectively a one man movie (which is a difficult job). If you're a dog lover, just beware - there is a tough scene to get through. One of my favourites.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Damien
Great fun. Yes, it smacks of the other cute rodent movies of recent times (Stuart Little, Ratatouille, Flushed Away etc.), but it was different enought to make it interesting for both grown ups and the kids.

Pretty bad. I think Kevin Smith may be losing his touch or is in a pretty deep rutt. This had none of the style of Chasing Am (his other major loves story), and was barely funny (I laughed about twice in the movie - and I think mostly at the guy who plays Jay in his other movies). I think when you have to keep upping the ante on the gross out, means you are starting to get desperate.

Great coming of age/childhood memories story. Well handled (not to schmaltzy) and brilliantly shot. The young boys are great in this - good to see Daniel Radcliffe strech himself, and the adult cast are great in support.

I am a person that doesn't mind slow dramas - if they are good. This was like mental molasses - except not sweet, just bland. The characters were stunted, the script uninspiring. I can't say that the acting was good nor bad - there wasn't much for them to work with here. I have to admit to giving up about 1:10 into this. My wife persisted - but revealed the next day she wished she had bailed like me. I think very rarely can American writers and directors nail real life drama. The characters are, as in this case, to two dimensional and are simply not real enough.

Awesome performance by Daniel Day Lewis - can see why he won the Oscar. Something really different, and we found, enjoyable - not the usual Hollywood ("let's spell it all out for our moron American audiences") Narrative and Plot. Very dark and foreboding, the score just adding to this (in a way that reminded me of the way the score was used in Van Dieman's land to build a dark sense of dread). Looking for something out of the norm, then this is for you. If you're not - go watch MIB or The Santa Clause again.

Average Horror - Thriller. Original concept is good, but execution not so good. Fails to build any real tension (just frights from the scarey music - Boo factor, as I like to call it). Won't give the ending away, but I don't think it really worked, seemed to just not fit well. But I have seen worse

Not bad. We quite enjoyed this. It was certainly better than the reviews I heard. Certainly a great concept.

Not a bad film from a debut director. Trying to be a little lock, stock and 2 smoking barrells, but a little bit on the slow side. However some good peformances - look forward to seeing more from this director.

OK a review that is 20 years late I know. But why can't Terry Gilliam nail it? He has all the elements in this film (like others) - great actors, great visual effect, great concept - but he just can't tell a story and particularly finish one well (in this respect he is like Mel Brooks). The narrative is long winded, the script is average, Brazil doesn't know if it is comedy/satire, an action film or a serious attempt at Orwellian story. Wanted to be pleased by this film, but in the end (like Eric the Viking and Jabberwocky) just sorely disappointed.

One of the most, if not the most, horrific films I have ever seen. Graphic, tense and gripping from beginning to end. This movie will haunt me for the rest of my days. It explores the idea that once you cross the threshold of inhumanity, there is little chance of turning back. Splendidly filmed and directed - the tension of the situation reflected on each actor's face. I would only recommend this film if you are not feint of heart. I have given this 5 stars, but I won't be watching it again. Once in a single lifetime is enough.

Brilliance. A real alternative screenplay with some unexpected twists. Fantastic animation!

Fantastic. I am a civil war buff myself, so the opening scenes of the Crater incident I thought were really well done. I know for some people they saw this movie as a little slow, but I thought the screenplay just had the right combination between the central plot and comic/plot relief characters. Not usually a fan of Rene Zelweiger, but her character was perfectly pitched. I really loved this film, it's rich landscapes (great cinematography), it's clever screenplay, great characters and some really great acting.

I am a fan of the zombie genre, so I got some enjoyment on this new take of the subject matter. Billy Connolly was pretty good as a zombie (perhaps he has found an acting niche?). However, unfortunately this film didn't quite find it's slot, it didn't quite know if it was a zombie comedy or a feel good film (with a misunderstood Frankenstein's Monster plot). I think if you are a zombie film fan, then there might be something in this film for you. If you aren't a fan of the genre, not sure you will enjoy it much at all.

If you are interested in what 17th century Spain looked like from the perspective of a soldier, then this is the movie for you. There are some great fight scenes, the costumes are awesome, but after that this was a real let down. Perhaps prior knowledge of the period, and particularly the characters and political intrigue therein might make for a more enjoyable watch, but unfortunately I found the narrative disjointed and the characters two dimensional and often their motivations confusing. Too many plot paths were left hanging - e.g. the whole Prince of Wales affair, the results of the job on the flemish ship. I felt like the film makers here, were trying to cram too much into the film and just ended up skipping over the surface of a story that could have been very intersting.

An absolute shocker. Contrite, longwinded, Mills

A great adaptation of the oldest english language tale. I like the modern slant on Grendel - up until the end you were left thinking he was just a misunderstood man (perhaps a cro-magnon?) but the mythical element enters back in at the end of the movie. Good quality acting, unique script - mixture of course language with high "poetics". The bards interjection of the ancient poem is amusing for the Beowulf nerd.

Excellent cinematography and soundtrack. Reasonable story and concept with a decent script and some good acting performances. I think exploring the awesome power of the sun is what makes this a little different to your usual run of the mill sci fi movie.

What can I say. I never thought there would be a movie to match the Princess Bride. I was wrong. Here it is.

If you are a fan of the Asterix & Obelix comics you will love this. Gerard as Obelix is perfect. Enough beaten up Romans to satisfy any Asterix fan!

Action and special effects great.
Concept great.
I realise that this movie has become a bit of a cult classic and I will offend some of its followers, and perhaps it is a matter of losing something in the cross cultural translation - but I found the narrative flimsy and the dialogue juvenile. Also most of the characters where two dimensional - they where all just trying too hard to be too cool. I applaud the fact that someone outside hollywood is trying to make a trendy horror-action, but I must admit at a few points in the film I was wanting it to be over.
