Some definitely startling moments - good ghost story, the ending is the kind of twist you expect but still overall a good story
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Fascinating movie - intense performances from Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour-Hoffman - both marvellously unhinged characters. Long, but worth it.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Not for the faint hearted - plenty of gore, though I wouldn't say gratuitous. Good story and well done.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
You can't beat a good Australian 'mental' movie! Hilarious. Definitely recommended.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Elspeth
I love a good Time Warp movie - good story and although somewht predictable in the end it is very well done and worth watching.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story - the many twists and turns keep it intersting. Basically a play, filmed really, but well done and great material. Good cast.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story and good resolution at the end - an intersting take on the time travel genre - and of course it's got Bruce Willis!
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Interesting story, the odd hole in the plot, but not big enough to intrude too much.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Fantastic movie - great story, great songs, excellent cast. WHat's not to love?
(Not to be missed!) - review by Elspeth
This is an interesting take on a time twist genre. Recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
This movie was a real surprise - it was hard to see where it would go. It depicts one mans severe depression and a very novel way of dealing with it. Interesting, entertaining and in the end positive. Definitely recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Appalling - enough said
(Don't bother!) - review by Elspeth
Interesting concept and reasonably well executed. I enjoyed this movie
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Interesting story with a nice twist to keep you guessing

I didn't think this deserved the caning it got - yes, it appears to be aimed at a youngish audience but there is penty to like - and, hey - Star Wars had some pretty daggy moments!!
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Interesting movie - very good
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Gary Oldman is, as usual, brilliant. His control and restraint perfectly portray the character and many little details mark him as one of the great actors of our time. Very good story and very well done. If you're looking for car chases try something less demanding. . .
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
I loved this movie - I will admit to being a big Patrick White fan and have read the book (more than once). I did wonder how it would come across onscreen but I thought it was very well done - the casting is great and the twisted and dysfunctional family is portrayed to perfection.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story, though quite harrowing. A fractured timeline which perfectly portrays the fractured life.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Interesting view of angels - not a bad story
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Great old movie - Michael Caine is excellent, the charaters are good and the ending is a shocker
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
A bit of a slow start but develops into an interesting story. American politics - dysfunctional or what?? moral dilemmas aplenty!
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Loved this movie - the best alien invasion for quite a while. Sly humour, good characters, good story. Highly recommended
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Interesting but slow and quite difficult - one of those movies that finish without any real resolution, though I suppose it is fairly obvious what will happen.

I thought this was great. Low key but intelligent with a wonderful subtle humour.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
A wonderful movie, highly reccommended

Dennis Hopper at his most psychotic best. Intense, crazy & rather bizarre story. Very good but not for the faint hearted.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent. Entertaining, and true Australian humour and characters (even the foreign ones!)
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
A good story with a satisfying twist! The Russians apparently thought so much of Harry Palmer that they copied him for their real spies.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Old but quite funny - Jim Carey shows the promise which was fulfilled in later movies with his physical comedy.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Quite old now but a true original masterpiece.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Not bad - I enjoyed it as I watched it but expected a 'surprise' or development at the end which didn't arrive.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
This was better than I expected - very enjoyable and interestiing
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Fascinating silent b & w movie - the sets are intriguing and the story is interesting. Very absorbing.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Excellent movie. Some people have obviously given up before getting to the twist and assumed they know what is happening. (Their loss). Top Australian drama.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Imagine Bad Boy Bubby crossed with House of a Thousand Corpses - it might give you some idea - This is a very intense movie. Not for the faint hearted but if you like a bit of good Aussie craziness with some blood thrown in you might like this movie. We loved it. . .
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Wryly funny
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
I can't believe this won best picture?? One of those movies you watch and think - well, what was the point of that. . . . .
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
I thought this was better than expected but did find it was let down by the ending. No explanation etc - just 'accept unquestioningly' - a shame as it had been quite good up till then. . . ..
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Dreadful, just dreadful.
(Don't bother!) - review by Elspeth
Very funny story - rather frfightening that is based in truth. George Clooney is great.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story well told, great characters.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Funny and more than a grain of truth, unfortunately. Peter Sellers is, as usual, brilliant and the moral decline of others is fascinating to watch. . . . .
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Bleak and disturbing but very good. A fairly frightening vision of a post apocalypse society where death may be a better option than life. In the end we are given a glimmer of hope that there may be a more positive future. Recommended
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Good viewing - the violence is a bit over the top, though certainly not excessive in real terms. Brad Pitt is great as always in these offbeat kind of roles. Very long but it doesn't drag at all.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Very interesting movie - I was very impressed with Robert Pattinson. Dali was a bizarre character and he played it very well. Fascinating look at the strange combination of fasscism and freedom of expressionthat was evident in Spain at the time. If you are a fan of Dali or interested in the history of Spain at that time definitely recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Yes - the story itself barely lifts above cliche, but what a wonderfully imagined world. I was sceptical but in the end just let myself go with it and really enjoyed it. It's always a bit of a shame to see movie after movie degenerate into the sort of gun fights and military might that America seems to love but overall it was worthwhile and full of wonderful imaginative touches - and, of course, the good guys won despite the oppressive might and muscle of the enemy!
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
A good rendition of the story - angst by the bucket load - plenty of tortured looks from Edward and Bella. What's not to love about vampires and werewolves!
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A lovely movie - Michael Caine, as always, is excellent. Perhaps not for lovers of wild action movies but a great story very well portrayed. The bonds between young and old can be unexpected and deep and this is a humorous and uplifting story about how help can come in unlikely ways when you need it most.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Shades of Dark Star. . . .I liked this movie but it is not 'Hollywood'! It takes a while to build up and work out what is going on and is kind of slow and there are obvious references to 2001 Space Odyssey and Dark Star. If you like those movies I would recommend it.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Quite interesting - not what I expected, in terms of how the story pans out. Probably not everyones cup of tea but entertaining.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
There were certainly moments that border on laughable - totally unbelievable. However , in the end I thought it wasn't too bad. (Over-the-top Hollywood nonsense notwithstanding). Don't expect a credible story b ut just go along for the ride.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
A great movie - though it is confronting and awful story. The attitude of the day was so terrible towards women (and children). Angelina plays the part very convincingly. Excellent.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
If MJ had lived we would never have seen this - it gives some great (relatively) unguarded moments and a chance to see the creative processes at work. Although there are no new songs the show would have been great - there were certainly fresh looks at the old ones - and they are songs that stand up over time. What a loss!
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
A bit slow and subtle but satisfying in the end. Not for lovers of action and excitement but an intelligent movie.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Better than I expected - if you enjoy horror then this is an entertaining movie. Some cliches (of course), some references to past horror movies, some bad acting - but hey - isn't that what we expect and love in horror movies?
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Great cast but this movie just doesn't work for me. . .I felt like it never really got to the point - everyone is more or less miserable and there is no real resolution of anything. All a bit pointless. . .
(Don't bother!) - review by Elspeth
I thought this wasn't so bad - quite enjoyed it really and I thought there were some interesting ideas.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent movie - really worth watching and thouroughly enjoyable, although it is not all sweetness and light and there is some difficult material. All the better for being realistic.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Elspeth
Well done interpretation of the book. Enjoyable and interesting.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Just doesn't work somehow - good actors, some funny set-ups but doesn't make for a funny movie. Bruce Willis was the only thing that saved it from being really boring - he was funny! Have to admire a big name star who can enjoy taking the micky out of himself!
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Overall pretty good - they could certainly have done without some of the fairly extended 'punch up' scenes which were largely gratuitous but other than that it was a good effort.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Very funny - the sort of humour only the British do really well.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
This movie is fascinating and excellent for anyone old enough to remember this era of politics, or anyone with an interest in the machinations of the American Presidency. I was totally intrigued witht the portrayal of Nixon. It may sound rather dry and dull but quite the contrary.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
I thought this was interesting - there are other movies with a similar theme and perhaps some of it is a bit loose but overall I thought it was good. Malcolm Mcdowell as always plays the suave creepily menacing part to perfection.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I liked this - it may not be the same as the original but it is a credible effort. Some interesting casting with Kathy Bates and John Cleese and I thought the story held up well. Food for thought in the storyline and it all flows along well.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I enjoyed this movie - the story was an interesting take on the time travel scenario with unforeseen consequences arisinig from small changes in events. Although it is PG it is interesting enough to hold the interest of adults as well as older children.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Although Marilyn was not intended to be the 'star' and her role is limited she has a luminous presence which seems to leave everyone around her in the shade. The story is a good thriller and the setting (filmed at Niagara) is unusual and interesting. The quality of the filming is good for its age and the story holds up well.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Very well put together - casting is good, scenery is amazing - uninhabited vast empty spaces. . . interesting story and always so hard to understand how supposedly 'christian' people could be so far removed from any attempt at forgiveness or charity or expect such brutality to have an edifying effect on anyone.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
This is a great Hitchcock movie loaded with his trademark wry sort of humour and plot twists and turns. Excellent.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Very funny - Steve Martin in good form is hard to beat for this kind of humour. Of course it is quite silly but if you just want to relax and have a laugh very enjoyable.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I found this quite entertaining - without being too critical about the story, continuity etc. . . not bad, maybe not great and no surprises
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Pretty funny - shades of Fear

A real fun movie - tongue in cheek and clever. Very enjoyable with so many wonderful touches, both subtle and totally over the top. Melodrama on the high seas! Loved it.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Filled with references to all the other Terminator movies, which is kind of fun to look out for. The storyline is tied together quite well and is nicely in keeping with the earlier movies, which is great. Sam Worthington is excellent, Christian Bale is over-rated in my book and rather one dimensional, but it doesn't detract too much in this case. The story works quite well, though the idea of a physical

Some great Hitchcock humour and all the twists and turns you would expect. I see the germ of 'Burn after Reading' in this movie.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I loved this movie - uplifting, clever and very different. It has a wonderful humour to it and nice resolution. The casting is perfect - Peter O'Toole does a fantastic job of being disagreeable ánd it would give it away to say more about the other amazing performance which has some lovely little touches. If you want action, guns and cars this is not for you but if you want intelligence, humour and something different this is highly recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
I guess you know what your getting with movie - don't look too hard for faults and holes in the plot and it is enjoyable. A good adventure story and who is going to take it too seriously anyway.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Very interesting story - well told. It is quite long but I didn't really notice as it keeps your attention. Although it could be seen as a period piece the story has a certain timelessness and relevence to any era. Recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Fabulous - very entertaining. Chaplin is just fantastic. So many funny little bits - the millionaire who is Chaplins best friend when drunk and turns him out every time he is sober, the fight scene - the wonderfully evocative music which replaces dialogue. Well deserving of its place as a top movie of all time.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Hitchcocks usual wry humour is in evidence here with serious events in an off beat setting - such as questioning actors while they say lines and dissappear on and off stage. It is a good example of unusual circumstances which seemed to delight Hitchcock and which give his movies that great comedic touch.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A complex 'morality play' - interesting depiction of small decisions with big consequences and the difficulty of a hard choice 'now' or go with the flow (which appears fairly harmless) but leads deeper and deeper into a very deep hole. The 'barber-shop quartet' was actually a kind of disassociation experienced during stressful times when the dubious morality of certain actions came to the fore.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I loved this movie. Fantastic to see something completely different from the Hollywood formulaic movies. I thought it really captured those intense feelings of alienation and confusion and also shows the lovely freedom of movement and thought while skateboarding. If you aren't addicted to Hollywood pap I would strongly recommend it.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Considering the calibre of the actors this is a very dissapointing movie - it just doesn't gel somehow though in theory it probably sounded like a good story. Perhaps it is because all the characters are fairly odious and it is hard to empathise with them.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Excellent movie - doesn't have the feel of an old movie and is a very interesting piece of (shameful) Australian history.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
I thought this was great - very like a good old western but a few modern quirks that would not have been in there if it had been made in the 50's. Yes - there is an element of predictability and certainly could be a gay sub-text but it is a well told story and follows the classic sort of line. Very watchable.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Not just entertaining and funny but intelligent too. Ben Kingsley is excellent as the unhappy and rather immature Doctor and Josh Peck is also great as the troubled Luke. There is much to empathise with here.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
No. 17 is a great example of the sly humour Hitchcock used in his movies - while ostensibly a serious situation it slowly builds to a level of absurdity while retaining the suspense and drama. It takes a bit of a change in mind-set from that of today but is well worth the effort. The Sorcerers Apprentice is a great little story from the TV series (Hitchcocks half hour?) - showing the danger of trying to manipulate someone for your own gain and how it can go very wrong.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
This was good - though like many Nicholas Cage movies went off into complete ridiculousness by the end - however it was entertaining on the way and had some interesting ideas. Better than I was expecting.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
We thought this movie was quite good - it is essentially like a play which has been filmed but there are some interesting ideas and it is the sort of movie you can find playing on your mind later (which I think makes it a good movie) - no big action or effects but gets you thinking!
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I thought this was surprisingly good - quite a few twists and turns and some interesting moral conundrums.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent movie - although dated in some aspects (psychological theory etc) on the whole the story holds up and the dream sequence is wonderful. Very good.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Rather strange - quite witty and a good show of single minded obsession from Malkovich. The vampire was quite funny in a pathetic sort of way. Probably better for having seen Nosferatu.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
If you dispel any notions of historical or cultural accuracy this movie is an OK action flick. . . . fairly preposterous but watchable.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Very interesting movie - surprisingly good, some unexpected twists and turns and something of a morality tale in the style of Requiem for a Dream. Definitely recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Very funny and the story is put together in a slightly unusual way - plenty of great actors and although taken to some extremes the basic story relates well to real life and the realisation that dreams can be acheived in different ways and the failure of a 'grand plan' could just possibly be a good thing. . . . .
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Quite funny and entertaining - no big bang or wild excitement but an enjoyable movie that is satisfying overall.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story - and kind of a nice rounding off of the Clint Eastwood tough guy pitch. Grim but uplifting and hopeful. Please watch this movie!
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
I thought this movie was witty and entertaining - could have been formulaic but managed some funny twists and unexpected turns, usually at the expense of Robert Downey Jnrs. character.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I quite enjoyed this as I was watching it but afterwards it left a bit of an emptiness. Nothing to really comtemplate or talk about. It has atmosphere and some suspense but a bit unsatisfactory in the wash-up.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
I expected something stupid and trashy but actually got a good laugh - some funny situations and a whole bunch of disfunctional characters but just goes to show you can be happy in your own way. .
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Great old movies. The Jaimaca Inn has one of the best lines - 'I know what to do with money, that's why I should have it' - continuing Hitchcocks regular theme of the arrogance and disconnect from reality of the rich. All 3 movies are fascinating and provide great glimpses of the past and intriguing stories.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
I thought this was very funny. The actors are all familiar and the story may not have been the most original concept but there were plenty of laughs.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
At first it was like a travelogue but I found the camera work surprisingly modern in parts. Hitchcock seemed to have a fascination with the way wealth and too much leisure corrupts and it provides an interesting look at how a happy marriage was almost destroyed. Some very interesting scenes in foreign countries which are more genuine looking than many later Hollywood efforts.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Surprisingly good - although anything with Tim Robbins in it usually is good. The story was interesting and showed a plausible future scenario (although some aspects require a suspension of critical thinking).
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Interesting story and quite well developed. I enjoyed it.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I really liked the story - very sensitively portrayed coming of age story showing a boys struggle to be himself in a world that was vastly different from the world of his parents. Very good.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Compelling but disturbing movie. Jon Voight is excellent. Thought provoking and difficult but I would recommend it.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A good story depicting the dreams of an ambitious and highly intelligent student who believes in the American dream of freedom of ideas only to find the same kind of attitudes as he escaped from in China still holding him back and preventing him getting the credit he deserves. His loss of faith is complete and devastating.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Definitely not one for the impatient - I found it just too long
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Although far fetched I enjoyed this movie overall. The idea is interesting and was quite well portrayed. Some sympathy is developed for the serial killer when we see his past. Jennifer Lopez was quite bearable and although there are some large holes in the plot it is very watchable and has some good ideas.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I thought this movie was very good - it is different, it is realistic (as movies go) and it has a good story. The actors are well chosen and it is entertaining but also thoughtful.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Quite good - better than I expected, not being a Kidman fan. She was good and the story held up without too many plot holes.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I thought this was funny and enjoyed it - a rather unusual and quirky story and some good laughs.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
This was a better than average horror story. There is some depth to the story and the actors are good. I would recommend it.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A great story - tense and complex. Portrays a sense of the difficulties in knowing right from wrong when almost everybody is out of their depth and lacking in cultural understanding. Excellent.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Excellent darkly comic story. The characters are great and very well cast. The plot is terrific - instead of making wild leaps of association (as is common in Hollywood) it shows the accidental nature of events
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Funny in a very black way - lots of blood but at least the compulsory gratuitous sex was aliens doing it LOL - Recommended for lovers of horror or aliens.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Wonderful - original and powerfully told story. A story worthy of a Dickens plot and fascinating scenery. A little touch of Bollywood to lighten the mood at the end. A great change from Hollywood.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Excellent - a meaningful story beautifully told.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
It was interesting in its way, but simply too long. I couldn't make the distance although I hate to give up before the end. I enjoyed it up to a point but there was too much time wasted.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Much better than I expected. (Perhaps because it is Canadian, not 'Hollywood') The Satanists certainly provide some great humour but there are also some intelligent ideas too - shades of 'Requiem for a Dream'. Recommended.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A fabulous piece of history. You can almost imagine being there with the rustle of the crowd and the sound of feet thumping on the floor. Wonderful.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Great fun - tongue in cheek humour, but sufficiently intelligent to make for good viewing, Very entertaining.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Very good - a life unravelling at an incredible rate. A wrong decision precipitating a rapid descent into an ever worsening nightmare. I'm not sure enjoyable is the right word but I thought the story was well put together, the characters believable and the ending satisfying. Recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Better than I expected - the non linear narrative fits the story very well as it reinforces the confusion of the main character and the difficulty he is having understanding what is happening. The story itself is interesting. Worth a look.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A wonderful fantasy world - Tim Curry is the best demon going. Gripping! Love it!
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Fabulous! It might be old but it is well worth watching. Funny, well written, well acted - great!
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Very bleak. Very well done and quite enthralling, but you won't feel 'uplifted' or anything. Dark, bleakly humourous at times but disturbing and difficult.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Very funny - I really enjoyed it. Well cast - Johnny Knoxville was just right. Admittedly I had some familiarity with the story (Bizarrely, it is essentially true) The dialogue is hilarious - Recommended especially for anyone interested in Rock History.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A good story of redemption - damaged individuals struggling to understand themselves and finding a way to repair their lives. Great music and a good story. Recommended for anyone who likes movies that are not formulaic hollywood.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Wonderful movie - entertaining but with a sting. Very well portrayed and very interesting. Highly recommended.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Excellent stories - very well thought out and thought provoking. Recommended for lovers of science fiction.

Pretty terrible - gratuitously violent and not much to recommend (and I generally like this type of genre. . .)
(Don't bother!) - review by Elspeth
Saved from Hollywood blah by Heath Ledgers stunning performance - I wouldn't rate it otherwise.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Interesting if you know something about the subject - not exactly a movie - more of a diary reading with images. Only recommended for those with an interest in Nijinsky.
(Don't bother!) - review by Elspeth
Good fun - you could pick it to pieces but just sit back and enjoy! Great for lovers of 'Monkey' and good roles from Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent though disturbing. Forest Whitaker is just fantastic and so believable as the psychotic and dangerous Amin. Incredible portrayal of the very slippery slope when lines of morality become blurred and finally destroyed. Highly recommended
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Really excellent movie. Great story, carefully put together. The best car chase involving a VW Beatle (did they pay for that?) I laughed out loud at the car chase! It's not a comedy but still some light moments. Fabulous, intriguing and clever.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
B grade doesn't quite cut it - maybe C or D - however the story itself was rather funny and despite the low grade production and unheard of actors etc. I actually quite enjoyed it. Certainly some funny moments! Recommended for fans of B grade horror (Oh dear!)
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Well, if you are a fan you'll probably love it. Certainly entertaining and some of the over the top hollywood trash is hilarious. Forget reality, forget common sense, forget a believable plot and the laws of physics - just be entertained!
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Entertaining, if you like this kind of thing. Bostin Christopher as Otis is excellent as is the incredibly annoying FBI Agent, Jere Burns who plays a great role as an arrogant and off the wall investigator. The parents are fabulous and it is black comedy at its awful best when they go to town.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A gripping story - at the end there may be the odd large hole in the plot but it is easy to ignore and go along with. William Hurt is good and it gives a frightening glimpse of a realistic scenario. Recommended.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story - some complex moral issues given stark treatment. Some surprises but even when you can see where it is going it is still drawing you along. The characters are well cast and realistic - the end inevitable and leaves you wondering what choices you would make in that situation.
(Excellent) - review by Elspeth
Interesting - though I think it gave the game away a little early it is still quite good. Story develops quite well and the characters are reasonably believable - especially for this type of movie. Worth a look if you like thriller/horror type movies.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
I enjoy the very human contradictions in character - the ruthlessness and then the vulnerability of someone who still wants love although they are cold and heartless in other ways. The resignation to his fate at the end is quite sad and we can feel sympathy for this rather odious character. There is an element of humour and almost slapstick comedy but all well done.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent short science fiction stories - well done, thoughtful and thought provoking. Recommended for all science fiction lovers
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story. David Wenham was good as usual. The story certainly takes an unpredicted turn which is very satisfyinig. Recommended.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Not bad - the story was quite well done though not terribly original. The slashing scenes were slightly over done but on the whole a good horror movie.

An interesting story line and fairly original. Quite well done.

Fascinating. Very interesting - worth a look.

Very funny. I laughed out loud, even sitting on my own watching! A sort of cliched story but well done.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Woody Harrelson plays a great character, though kissing another man is a bit challenging to watch for someone who normally seems so hetero. His character is very believable though. The story develops well and is interesting. Very good.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
If you like martial arts movies this is good. The story holds up and the fight scenes are suitably over the top - defying the laws of physics! Good entertainment.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Enjoyable - makes the 'comic book' story reasonably belivable so you can enjoy the action without sitting there going 'Oh, come on!' Robert Downey Jr. is always good and there is some nice humour.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Quite good - an interesting story and fairly well done

Excellent - not a genre I generally go for (westerns) but a good story, excellent characters, well done! The battle of wills between Wade

Not bad - the alien was believable. Quite a good story and wasn't too trite and cliched.

A great watch. Keeps you guessing to the end. If you like psychological thrillers this is great.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A little difficult to get into at first but the story is a great example of a slowly unfolding disaster. Everything that can go wrong does and it is awful and intriguing to watch. Hoffman is perfect, if unappealing and Ethan Hawke as the hapless brother is terrific. Very good!
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
A little difficult in the beginning but the story draws you in as it goes along. Not for the impatient or those who want non stop action but an interesting story.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Rather strange - Johnny Depp in a musical, a musical about a serial killer. . . plenty of blood and gore, quite graphic. I didn't know what to expect but enjoyed it and found it very entertaining and different.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Quite interesting - nothing is explained too much but still worth a watch if you like the paranormal genre.
(Maybe) - review by Elspeth
Entertaining - some parts of the plot are rather 'loose' and the ending is a bit weak but still quite good.
(Worth watching) - review by Elspeth
Fairly confusing but interesting enough by the end. Sarah michelle Gellar is rather limited as an actress and doesn't get far from her 'Buffy' persona. I liked the resolution but it was a bit of a difficult journey to get there.

Very good - interesting, great characters, Dennis Hopper is excellent - he plays an extreme personality and as always does it well. It's not meant to be reality - but it is a good story.

Quite difficult to follow, though it evenyually makes sense (a quote at the end brings it together - it could have made it easier to follow if it had been at the beginning) Interesting but I think it was more difficult than it could have been.

Quite difficult to get into - in the early part of the movie the hand held camera is irritating (to me). It does warm up and in the end is an interesting take on the events, but it does take some effort to keep watching.

Excellent movie - the first few minutes are a little hard but well worth getting through. Very interesting development of the story and really shows how you should not be too quick to judge! Brilliant!

Highly recommended. Very funny, intelligent and perceptive. Rush and Wenham are great. A real gem!

Fluff. Reasonably entertaining while you're watching it but leaves nothing behind.

Highly recommended - a real gem! Funny, intelligent, entertaining. It hasn't dated at all and is just as funny and relevant as ever.

Really a younger persons movie but certainly funny. Completely ridiculous of course but if you can stop being a 'sensible' adult it's enjoyable - watch it with your kids and it will be funnier. . .

I don't think you need to have any particular interest in Edith Piaf to enjoy t his movie. Poor girl, harsh upbringing, makes good with a talent no-one knew she had as a young girl. She had to be tough, and her life was never really going to be a bed of roses. Very well portrayed.

I fyou like the slasher horror type of movies this is a good one. Rob Zombie has proved to be an excellent film maker, giving slasher horror an intelligent edge.

Interesting movie - well done the way scenes are shown from different points of view, illustrating the confusion and distorted perceptions caused by the drugs. Worth watching.

If you like horror then it is quite a good watch. I thought the story was quite interesting.

I thought this movie was very good. It is a very insightful depiction of the long term effect of a childhood trauma that had never been dealt with properly, and of the desperate confusion and difficulty caused for him and those close to him. It ends on a positive note which is nice too.

Certainly not one for the intellectuals but it certainly gets a laugh. Very funny, in a silly kind of way, and very entertaining.

This is a really excellent movie. The camera work is fantastic, the casting perfect, the story is a wonderful almost biblical story of morals, temptation and compromise.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Elspeth
Excellent story though quite complex. It is not hard to believe these sorts of things happen. Up to the high standards we expect from George Clooney and it is great that he does movies which rely on the story and not his personal appeal.

I really enjoyed this movie - even if it wasn't a true story it would have been good. It really gives a sense of the torment in Ian Curtis' life, and the intensity of his art. It made me want to listen to Joy Division all over again.

An interesting movie, a bit different and quite intriguing.

A bit slow at first but became quite involving. A little confusing but overall worth a look.

Clever and kind of creepy the way it slowly becomes apparent what has happened. An interesting movie.

better than I was expecting - I enjoyed it. Interesting development, the way it shows different points of view.

Best movie I've seen for awhiile. Good story, excellent portrayals of the characters. Loved it - watched it twice and have recommended it to anybody who will listen.

not bad - an interesting twist. Not too predictable and quite well made.

Entertaining movie if you like this kind of thing but as far as a 'real' story - it all boils down to 1 war vet who has suffered torture and later alcoholism telling a wild story that could not be verified. I still enjoyed it though.

Doesn't follow the path that seems predictable through the movie so that is a nice surprise. Interesting though somewhat unbelievable - but hey, it's a movie. .

Rather convoluted and over the top but still worth watching. An interesting premise but taken to a ridiculous level. Still - enjoyable over all

Interesting story - an unusual twist and keeps you guessing. Well put together and while some things stretch credibility it gets around them quite well. Worth watching if you like ghost/horror type stories

i hadn't realised this was animated and almost turned it off but was soon drawn in - I don't really know why they did it as an animated movie. It is a good story and has some great parts - Robert Downey Jnrs character is terrific and gives some very good drugged out paranoid raves. I enjoyed it a lot but don't think the animation did anything much for it.

I think those who have read the book will enjoy this more than those who havn't. It keeps reasonably true to the story but can't cover all the detail, and has the odd random bit of something else thrown in for no apparent purpose. Overall though if you like horror stories it is worth watching.

Excellent movie - I wasn't sure at first - black and white, heavy sort of topic, but I was soon absorbed into the drama and it was very satisfying. George Clooney helps, of course!

For lovers of the zombie movie genre this is right up there (even though we are told throughout the movie they're not zombies) - it's got a story! (wow!) and humour and songs - even a zombie dance sequence (shades of 'time warp' and 'thriller') - what more could you ask for!

Really funny! Thouroughly enjoyed this movie - the casting and the characters are great. The story might be far-fetched but is carried very well and has lots of really funny moments.

I enjoyed this movie though it plays to the conspiracy paranoia. The story develops well and has some surprises. Some scenes are really well done and the story is satisfying overall.

Although Billy Connelly is very understated (having a non-speaking role) he is still great. Funny in a subtle way and has some deeper meaning.

Fabulous - hard to go wrong with Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando and doesn't disappoint. Subtle, endearing, entertaining, funny and uplifting.

A great insight into the man behind the myth. . . Bruce Li was an intellectual and highly disciplined man. Very interesting.

Still funny and interesting to note all the political incorrectness! Norman Gunston certainly makes most of his guests laugh (or get annoyed)

For a 'no-name' movie this was excellent - I would rate it higher than many big name 'blockbusters'. A fantastic 'spectre/bad-guy' and a really neat ending which ties everything up in a very satisfying way.

Quite slow, especially the first half but a wonderful movie - confronting and very different from any mainstream genre. Bubby is somehow very appealing and evokes sympathy in the watcher and the participants in the movie. A fascinating look at human dysfunction and the redemptive power of music and love. Very memorable.

Very entertaining - funny and perceptive. Agreat satire on politics, leadership and ideology. Food for thought with offbeat humour. I really enjoyed this movie.

Very well crafted and intelligent movie - it makes it very interesting the way the stories develop and the connections reveal themselves. Quite long but worth it and raises some very thought provoking issues.

Extremely long. The characters are well portrayed and the story is interesting and well developed. Recommended for those with an interest in real crime but probably too long for those without that interest.

Intersting if you are tolerant of low budget movies with fairly unappealing characters. Requires some perseverance but has it's moments.
