I have to admit I watched this because Michelle Pfiffer was in it. A mistake.
(Don't bother!) - review by Kendal
I like Michelle as an actor but felt this was an adequate but not great film. She and Robert Redford came together in this film. For me the partnership as a romance did not work..

The expressions on the face of the main character Karol is an ongoing memory for. A very european story of love and retribution wiht a twist. Exploration of some of the darker human emotions of revenge, lust, depression, greed, but also intermingled with friendship, trust, drive.

I have seen this movie a couple of times and have enjoyed it. Peter Coyote was very good and i thought he did a good job of holding the movie together.
. I enjoyed the sub plots and the many levels to the film that dealt with some of the strong people emotions and weaknesses. The film centred around four people
Like a previous reviewer implied Hugh Grant was well... Hugh Grant- not someone to get exited or excited about but I survived that.. Emmanuele Seigner played a strange role but it was a Romanski film- ie strange.

A story Kelpie lovers will connect with. The story had a clever mix of comedy and drama. Laugh one minute shed a tear the next. The red outback was at its best- red and dusty!!!.
If you have a chance on the DVD look at some of the interviews, and Red Dog's screen test.

Still good and characters evolving as they move further into the 60s. Some disjointed episodes at times but that is fine. Final disk sets the scene for series 5

For those that have been to India this will bring back some memories. Good film with a few threads woven through. Touch of upstairs / downstairs.

A movie that show cases Cher's acting skills. While I enjoyed the cast of characters and the family interactions I thought Nicholas Cage was poorly casted in this film. For me his character over acted the role and he came accros as a parody. Perhaps this was the aim but it did not fit.
Despite this worth watching

Good part played by Naomi Watts in particular. Some v good scenes of China with the impending Chinese revolution sitting menacingly in the background.

Surpisingly okay. I wanted to see Cher in a fil and she did not disappoint. Winoma Ryder and Chrstina Ricci both played good roles.

Okay Michelle Pfeiffer was slinky in her cat uniform, Danny De Vito's make up was impressive, but the good news stops there. Mickael Keaton was so quiet he could have been on tranquilisers, the plot.....yawn.

Tottally not my style of film. This resembed a C grade movie. Same style as a spagettit western over acting etc .

Great group of talented actors but a pretty pathetic plot. However with a few friends and a bottle or two of wine it can be a fun night

I enjoyed this for a number of reasons. It was Australian, Monic Hedrickx hinted experience as an illegal migrant reminded me of sad situations I know some female migrants have got into, Loved the often understated and of course totally understood McInnis' characters lack of cooking ability.

Okay to watch if you are at a loose end and not much else to do. I thought the script could have have been tighter but it was not and so it never achieved what it could have. The plot could have been great but in the end it was......

I have seen this twice and liked it both times. Quite a complex film with a few themes running through it. Great performance by Abbie Cornish

Well I may be in the minority on this one but this film did not excite me.
The first quarter I enjoyed and it began to pull me in. I liked young Briony and the story began to build. After that ....ho hum. Dragged out scenes, inconsistency of character as teh Briony and Celia grew up. Strange sort of musical genre scenes set in Dunkirk, wounded soldiers who look fit with just a bit of tomatoe bandage tied around them.
How hum

Certainly Emile Hirsch gave a very good performance but overall I feel that the movie did not meet my expectations. Yes it was a good account of a real life story and the movie had the feel of an un edited family movie- important to the family but too long for the rest of us.
When I first saw the movie I checked the box- was it made in the 60s as the same themes ran through this that were so prominent in the 60s 70s? That part I liked as there was a theme about idealism, something forgotten in the modern cyberage with instant me now culture that prevades every aspect of our lives.

Definitely worth watching. Brings many of the threads of Indian life for a widow- family expectation, religion, poverty, into play.

This film had some good moments and themes. One has to take one's hat off to Clint, close to 80 for his staying power. It was good to see a young spirit in an old body planning for his ending in his own way- Harry would have been proud of Wal.
However while it was good to see Clint, whom I have followed for years, in the end I felt something lacking in the film- a missing depth that was hinted at but never quite achieved..

Seen this twice and enjoyed it both times. It is set in that period when childhood crosses to adult hood and one has to deal with issues and relationships that once could be hidden by childhood innocence.
Great acting by Pia Miranda whose vibrancy and love of life I found captivating. .

I saw the film, then read the book. While no expects an exact rendition there are many worthy film interpretation of books. This is not one of them. A shallow superficial gloss over of a good book.
If you have seen the film then I suggest you don't read the book just enjoy the film for what it is- another Hollywood film without substance designed to entertain without any thinking.

A good film, a comedy tha,t begins to dawn on one, that if it is a comedy it is a very dark one indeed. Cleverly put together with a different concept on a very bad part of European history. Roberto Benigni's character was probably a little too talk talk talkative for me.

A film worth watching. A different take on a police show with characters one can identify with. Probably only part I thought could have been was the final few minutes.

This film had a reasonable start but became lost in poor script writing in the second half in a plot that lost its edge. Ho Hum

The film had great potential from a story line point of view. However it was brought down by poor editing and directing that simply did not get the best out of the film which had some good actors.

A very different Art House type movie. While Malcolm Macdowell and Naomi get high billing the star is really Lori Petty who is terrific as Tank Girl. Lots of odd and interesting characters. In some ways the desert scenes reminded of Mad Max but a lighter funnier version

I have seen this version and the earlier version of this film. This one I found disappointing and like many films that try to sell to the the US market had the subtlety of a noisy drunk. Probably not the same attention to historical detail as the previous version. Having said this some good acting by individuals but the package was generally annoying.
(Maybe) - review by Kendal
Really enjoyed this. Seen twice and it is much better and more subtle than the the later film of the same name.
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
Blahh! Mediocre story line, couldn't decide if it was serious or a comedy so was neither, ungripping, some pandering to the US market.

A surprise package. A film that dealt with a number of issues including cancer and train deaths but did not have a overly morbid approach. Australian too as a bonus
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
Enjoyable film with a number of interesting characters. The record shop setting made the film but the storey line was similar to others- cross between mid life crises and college student type script

Interesting dealing with a sad area of homelessness.

A great film set basically in the USA, with scenes from Calcutta, set around an Indian migrant family. The film explores many of the issues facing such families including the rediscovery of the importance of their family's culture by the US born children. The boys name is in some ways the link between the old and new culture and reflects the confusions and barriers for a migrant child.

Just loved it.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Kendal
Wonderful. Australian film at its best. Terrific photography, the sort of shots Australians have built a reputation on. Haunting at times and it takes you into the life of a family of migrants and the issues that impacted on them. No false sentimentalism. Acting top rate
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
It was quite interesting and well acted. The script could have been tighter as some scenes had too many holes (in a movie sense) detracting from the storyline.

Worth a look. Bill Murray plays a convincing role and the characters are interesting

Saw this first in the mid 1970s and again in 2008 and still enjoyed it. Found it quite subtle and not over-the-top which is highly unusual for a holywood show these days.
Both Donald and "Hanoi Jane" played good roles.
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
A most enjoyable film. Richard Dreyfus' character is in the sunset of his life and the film brings the past of his life, and the amazon into contrast. In some ways, to me he is reflecting he demise of the great rainforest to the advance of modern civilisation (or lack of!!)

Terrific. Film kept my interest the whole time. Had an interesting mix of ethnic characters, Italians, Anglo Saxon, German all mixed in at a property. A reflection of what Australia was to become. Film had a touch of innocence that reflected the view of childhood, but the reality of the war era was there with the emotional complexities that can come with adulthood .
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
I think I enjoyed this more now than in the 70s as it brought a touch of historical reflection. Raunchy, boozy, sexist and very 70s. It must have been outrageous then. I enjoyed looking at some of our Australian actors in their early days.

Heath Ledger & Abby Cornish and Geoffrey Rush all play good roles in this film.
Drug addition is no fun and this film takes us with couple wrapt up with each other as they start their journey from the 'excitement' of drug experimentation and exhilaration
that lies with the flush of youth as they slide to the crumbling horrors that is part of addiction. Two loving young people, who in other times might have so much to offer, are forced into a life of deciept and poverty to feed the habit and then struggle to overcome it.
This is no glorified look at addiction. My main criticism was that the directors kept Abby Cornish’s model good looks even when in reality many in her position would have found the ravishes of heroin addiction would have stolen this too.

Again McKenzie shows she is a skilled actress. This is an Australian film and explores a range of themes. Sexuality v sensuality, Men and womens different perception of relationships and their understanding of what it all means and how it can change through ate. Plenty of nude (particularly topless) that where probably just overdone a bit. If you after a traditional romance this is not it.
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
College film genre. May be okay if you are college student and you hormones are rampant but otherwise same old same old
(Don't bother!) - review by Kendal
This was a good adaption of an Irving novel- well the first half of his novel. A good mix of youth, middle age, comedy and profound sadness as two generations come together with very different experiences and feelings about life. If youth is provided a glimpse of what pains life can hold then surely age takes some hope from youthful innocence and hope
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
Story line was mediocre but I liked the character of the leading Clare Danes. Steve M's role is reflecting a mid life crises and a few of these 'older man picks up younger girl' type films are doing the rounds. Okay film for a quiet Saturday night

A different Holywood film- non formula. Interesting linkages when age, (Bill M) and youth (Scarlet J) enter a strange relationship, not quite sexual, not quite paternal as they try to find solace from life in each others company. The goodbye kiss just did not work for me- what did she see in him!!
(Worth watching) - review by Kendal
A story of an inter religious relationship as t two grapple with the issues of family expectations, religion upbringing, cultural expectations and old fashioned desire. Never a dull moment and one that brought many what ifs long after the film had finished.
(Excellent) - review by Kendal
Enjoyable film. College style genre with the hackers ending up being the good guys. Probably would have more impact a few years ago when computer security was laxer. Loved the mix of odd characters
(Worth watching) - review by Kendal
Definitely an Art House type film. An interesting setting, almost entirely set in one room with characters coming and going with plenty of surprises to keep us guessing. A relationship type film with touches of sadness, humour, music and quirkiness. Worth watching
