Pure visual magic! A bit of a better understanding of Japanese culture would have helped more fully appreciate the story but this was more than compensated for by the sheer depth of colour and artistry of film itself. One of the greats!

Story line has more than a bit of the old poetic licence but a good nights entertainment nevertheless.

Quite frankly apart from Judy Dench this film is a load of you know what. Stilted and unconvincing.

Not as good as the book but worth a look.

What a load of old rubbish. You would think some of the Star cast would have known better

I found it hard to understand the dialogue and the plot was very convoluted. Pity really as the star cast promised more.

If you are a fan of Denzel then a great movie. If not then perhaps it is not so good as the story is just not believable even though it is apparently based upon real life but perhaps some poetic licence was allowed!

For reasons which I find hard to write I didn't enjoy this film as much as I had hoped. It just was long winded and the sex scenes seemed to me to be just a prop for the rest.

Whilst this in not the best film of the year it nevertheless is interesting from a historical perceptive. A bit slow but stick with it!

We all need more feel good movies like this! Great entertainment!

I wish I could be more positive about this film as Nicole Kidman is her usual excellent self but surprisingly I found Anthony Hopkins portayal of a white "Black" unconvincing.

Interesting... but in the end a dissapointing film. All the major actors give worthwhile performances but the storyline is just not credible.

A very good lead up to a strange ending which was a bit of a let down.All in all despite good performances from the lead actors it is not a memorable film.

Well what a great movie. Realistic and no frills story based upon a true life story. This is how life is without the PC. Nice to realise that not is yet all lost.

I wasn't expecting too much from this movie but I was wrong. It's a sort of realistic "Bridge over the river Kwai" for adults. Good performances from both the actors and director.

Whilst being a dedicated Seinfeld fan I was nontheless dissapointed with this DVD. The material from from the early days and seemed, somehow, lacking in some regard.

Truly interesting and informative. Not sure I agree with the 'death' of Marlowe though. Tend more to him being 'protected' by influential friends, living in Italy and feeding William the plots for Romeo & Juliet etc from there. Nevertheless have ordered Vol 2

Well what Can I say? I usually like Cohen Brother films but this one left me wondering.

A qualified 3 star. Worth watching if you are a Dennis Potter fan as this DVD does an good job of trying to give an insight into this unusual mans mind, and hence his possible motivation for writing the way he did.

A good typical Tommy Lee Jones film. Lots of action and good entertainment!

Dissapointing. Even though the cast is impressive the performances are wooden. Particularly Anthony Hopkins, which is so unexpected. Even though it is a real story one doesn't end up liking any of the people in it!

As usual a fasinating story well played out by all but particularly Robert Carlyle. Don't miss it!

Being a fan of the cult TV series I was looking forward to seeing this film. Boy was I dissapointed! The little I bothered to watch was pure unmitigated rubbish

Why I like this quirky series I cannot explain! Perhaps it's because I relate to the setting and time but whatever the reason I really like the work of Dennis Potter and wish that there was more around.

Another good episode of this fabulous series but maybe not quite as good as Disc 2 due to the slightly unstatisfying ending.

Why this series never made it when first aired by the ABC I will never know. This espisode is very good and I look forward to seeing the rest.

A mildly amusing film with occasional moments of real humour. Perhaps best suited to people with an Anglo Saxon background as they will probably get the most from it.

A mildly entertaining film but it comes over as being just another unplausible Hollywood excuse to promote the two lead actors, one of whom is always very worth watching.

I kept hoping this film was going to get better but by half way through it hadn't so I switched off. Whilst I realise that life isn't always rosy I find little to entertain in films as depressing as this one.

What at first seems just another trivial pommie movie soon develops into an absorbing real life drama. To the compelling scipt add some very good performances by the lead performers. A good movie fully worth 3 stars.

Whilst I found this DVD to be good value I nevertheless felt a bit let down by it. It seemed to me to be trying too hard to do a "Full Monty" and lacked, as a result, a true identity and the performances by the any of the well known female artists did much for me. They were just not real.

Volume 1 was OK but Vol 2 is much, much better apart from the somwhat lame ending. On the whole I enjoyed both and even found the high level of violence somehow acceptable.

A slow but absorbing film. The storyline is unusual but plausible. Fine performances by all the actors add to the quality of the film, as does the Kenyan setting.

Flashes of absolute side splitting humour but some longish marginal periods which also may be offensive to some. On the whole good value but you wouldn't want to see it again for awhile.
