I can see why this won't be for everyone, but we found it to be an intelligent, original and almost surreal movie experience. The young star is exactly that, with the genuine looks of fear and curiousity she expresses. It is full of imagination and captured ours.

It seems that all of the people that got sliced up in this movie had exploding bottles of tomato sauce strapped to their bodies. Some of the fight scenes are okay for martial arts fans, but it's boring in between and the geysers of ketchup get a bit boring after a while.

We got Season 2 about 2 weeks before season 3 starts butit has only just been released on DVD and I'm not a pirater, so we waited and it was worth it! As fabulous the first season, with so much intrigue and clever dialogue between characters. I got a bit bored with the Jon Snow character and things beyond the wall, but otherwise loved it. We kncoked over the 5 DVD's (2 episodes on each) in around 2 weeks!

I'm not a Toby Maguire fan but he does the bug-eyed crazy dude pretty well in this. Jake is probably too good looking to be the down and out bank robber brother (although they tried to disguise it with a neck tattoo...). It's a sad story ultimatelyand thoughtfully presented.

The Ice Age franchise is starting to lose steam and I think this should probably be the last. Still, it was fun to watch and a great movie for kids.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Got better as it went on and we really enjoyed it in the end. A great movie to get out for kids just before Christmas. It's magical and fun.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Pretty similar to the first. I'm not a huge JCVD fan but this is watchable. For B grade action it was easy enough to watch.

Excellent performances all round, particularly from the mad king. An intersting story based on real life events and brought to screen sumptuously, with fabulous settings and costumes. If you like costume dramas and can handle subtitles, this is a gem.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
I was really disappointed by this lacklustre affair. Yeh it's a Striptease for the girls, and Matthew McConaughey has fun with it, but the story is drearyand predictable.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
One of Woody Harrelson's best performances in this sometimes funny, sometimes poignant movie that we found easy to watch.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Disposable Steve Austin stuff. Only for his fans.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
I really can't give this more than 3.5 stars. Too much Bruce Wayne/Bane/Commissioner Gordon etc and not enough Batman. The action sequences were few and far between and there was way too much dialogue and attempts at "drama". Loved the last 5 minutes though, they always keep you wanting more!
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
The acting is quite believable and real, but I didn't enjoy this at all.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Didn't get much out of this. Lots of plot holes, like why were there 150 cops in his house after the shooting and no one thought to check his daughter's mobile... Mel was okay, but it was a lot like his Payback role.

Excellent and somewhat unexpected end to series 2. I'll be back for season 3.

(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Pretty slow road movie starring the always purse-lipped Renee Zellwegger playing a shallow woman that is seeking out the life as a kept woman after ditching her hubby. It's a bit of a telemovie and not a lot actually happens. The boys are quite good in their roles, but it seemed to be a pretty basic movie with not much going for it.

So you get a movie out that's made by Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, and its rated MA15 for language and drug use, but then you write a review complaining about how crude it was and it contained, wait for it, drug use! Some Quickflixers here need to do a bit more reasearch before choosing a movie! I found the first 15mins or so a bit slow, but then it started to grow on me, with plenty of in jokes and don't go there moments. So if you like Seth's work, this will probably please you. If you don't, then steer clear.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
I think this movie will mainly appeal to those people that grew up through the '80's watching the older members of this cast at the peak of their powers. As I am one of those, I got a kick out of it. Minimal story, minimal acting, maximum firepower and maximum corny jokes. Some great moments with Arnie, Chuck, Sly and Bruce sharing the screen. Like it for what it is. Expendable.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Lots of politics and relationship building as Jimmy starts working on his own empire, which is a long way off Nucky's heights.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Things started to build and happen on disc 3. Agen Nelson is so conflicted I feel like something's gotta give.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Bit of a slow start to season 2 as we meet the characters again, but the production qualities remain high.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
CGI lacks a bit and I couldn't get used to Pierce Brosnan as a half horse-half man. Just looked wrong! It's more suburban than Harry Potter but not as supernatural either, so maybe better for younger audiences.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
I think this was my first foray into Israeli cinema and overall I was pretty satisfied. Nicely acted, nice bit of tension built up as the story developed.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
I persisted with this and it grew on me. I ended up enjoying the writing and insults that were hurled about. James Gandolfini was terrific.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
A romantic drama without too many light moments. More of a midday movie with some star power. A bit sappy and predictable.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Very much a kids move, but as other reviewers have noted, some of the vodoo scenes might be a tad scary for the very young. Enjoyed the voice of the evil voodoo guy and remembered him as King in Platoon with Charlie Sheen.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
I was worried this was going to be like Vin Diesel in The Pacifier, but Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson seems more naturally suited to this kind of role with his winning smile and sense of fun. A better quality family movie.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
As an Australian-made effort, I thought this was reasonable. I like Ethan Hawke in most of the films he has done. Willem Dafoe has had a few misses, but seems to enjoy this one. Story is a bit diferent to your usual vampire flick, which is a nice change. Better than any Twilight movie anyway, especially getting to see Jay L'gaia (apologies for the spelling) lose his head.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
If you liked the other Harold & Kumar movies, chances are you will get some laughs out of this. Tom Lennon, of Reno 911 fame, makes a good addition and his baby makes for some of the funnier moments. NPH features again (although it seems N/A's review on 7 Dec 2012 doesn't realise he was in the previous instalments - lighten up N/A) and revels in taking the mickey out of himself. Thought it was the highlight myself. Good for a laugh, but I don't have a 3D TV, so I didn't get that experience, which may be a good thing after seeing the claymation sequence.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Oh Daniel, what were you thinking? Stellar cast, but gee, it doesn't live up to expectations. Some of the numbers are strong, but many fall flat, and then the bits without music are flatter again... Looks great, but there's no way this is a 9. More like a 2.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
By the numbers inside job on an armored van, with a couple of twists, but nothing that really managed to generate much tension. Matt Dillon's character changes loyalties in a heartbeat and a few other moments stretched belief. Watchable, but only just.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving, Emily Blunt. Good names and I enjoy them all on screen, particularly Miss Blunt, but this one falls well short. Benicio is poorly cast ( I think in his own movie) and the special effects other than the transformation are poor.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Very Disney, very predictable but we got some laughs out of it so it scrapes through for 2 stars. They are looking old though...
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Bit of a weepy from Robert De Niro, who performs admirably as the recently widowed but independent (sort of) father of four of the shallowest and most dishonest kids you'll find. Top cast too but we don't get much out of them, Sam Rockwell especially.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
I love a good heist film but this seemed a bit pedestrian. I prefer Antonio Banderas as Puss in boots these days. Thought his acting was forced in this.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
I didn't get much out of this. While it's certainly better than your average American high school flick, it just lacked a little depth to keep me entertained. Two and a half stars.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Has it's moments and Abby Cornish does a fine job as the besotted admirer of Keats. A pleasant period piece with superb costumes and beautifully shot.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Excellent stuff from Pixar yet again. It was a little bit different to some of Pixar's previous offerings, but we loved the story, the characters and the humour. First class.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Suited my sense of humour and cynicism. I enjoy the way Bill Maher does this, but some may not. I didn't find him offensive at all, and I guess it is an easy target, but at least he kept me laughing.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
We are big fans of The Walking Dead, so we were expecting zombies to jump out at any minute. Well, they may not be zombies, but this post-apocalyptic film has the live humans effectively carrying on like zombies. Its very dark and bleak but Viggo does a fine job. I didn't like his son, he didn't seem to be too blemished or hardened from his years on the road surrounded by death. A couple of short but impressive cameos from Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce. Pretty good but found the ending a tad convenient.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Terrific performance from the lead and not sure why we haven't seen more of him. An intersting insight into the early life of John Lennon. Not sure how accurate it is, but he was a lost soul and a bit of a troublemaker. Just lucky Paul came along, it seems. Very evocative of the era and has a few moments where you wish you had been there, such as John and Paul playing together for the first time.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
John Krasinski plays this one really well - the role suits him. It had some really original and funny moments, particularly Alison Janney as the old boss in Arizona. Very different to her West Wing role! Enjoyed his a lot.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Beautifully shot - Scott Hicks loves capturing the afternoon light in this one. It seems so many of these films are shot in South Aus these days. Good performances but lacked some emotion.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
A different sort of animated movie - you could see the Tim Burton involvement as it is a bit darker than most. Quite well done though and the animation is first class.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
If i ever here that song again, I'll scream. Well acted but this movie is very much a one trick pony and probably only needed 30mins to tell the story.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Very much along the lines of Being John Malkovich. Paul Giamatti is a quality actor - right up there with Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Interesting concept and I found it watchable.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Really liked Matt Damon in this. Terrific story and just loved the way he kept convincing himself, and others, that he was doing the right thing. The '70's styling is well done, and it was good to see Scott Bakula doing some big screen work.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Unless you really get into serious arthouse movies, this movie will not impress you. Weird.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Very similar in style to Delicatessan - same director and some of the same actors pop up. The audio dubbing ruins this even more though. No idea why it couldn't have been done with subtitles. Very odd arthouse stuff.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
A rom-com for mums. Good leads and John Krasinski is fine, but the rest of the children are just annoying.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Apparently we have an Australian director to thank for this one. Bret Easton Ellis distanced himself from the movie once it was realised how the director was planning on transferring his book to the big screen. It was supposed to be satirical in some ways, but this is just empty.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Could have been a midday movie melodrama, but it kept me interested with the fine performances.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
I didn't really like the whole montage beginning of the film, it seemed to jump over some pretty important moments. Robert Caryle was pretty good, but the best depiction of Hitler I have seen still belongs ot the actor in Downfall.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
A good one for the kids. Wasn't quite sold on Nicolas Cage providing Astro Boy's Dad's voice, but everything else worked pretty well.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Interesting idea and reasonably well executed. Is it just me or is Julianne Moore often in these sorts of films? You could almost interchange her for TOni Collette for the roles where they are made to look haggard. Very bleak and confronting at stages and you wonder if people would behave like that given the same affliction. Good production values. Worth watching.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
A well made French film based on a true story. Fine performances all round. A sad outcome but an interesting story worth telling, and it's told well.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Like most of you, I watched it because Colin Firth was in it. Totally predictable but a few worthwhile moments.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
A well crafted and original film about 3 US soldiers who share a road trip through circumstance and have their own battles to deal with. Moments of laughter and genuine pathos. Never corny, very well acted. Loved Rachel McAdams. 3 and a half stars.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
I hereby swear to never watch another Vince Vaughn movie. Please hold me to this solemn vow Quickflix members!
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
I was really looking forward to seeing this, but I was ultimately disappointed. I had read that it had to be cut back from some 4 hours that the director originally envisioned. Well, in my view he could've cut another hour to 80 minutes and lost nothing. It's almost 3 hours worth, and while the acting is first rate, there are many scenes and characters that add nothing. The Mathew Broderick character, for example, seems to have no impact on the story. As do many of the shots of the city. 2 and a half stars for me.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
I'm a big fan of Lachy Hulme, especially from the Hollowmen with Rob Sitch. He does a fine job as the title character. Travis McMahon in a cameo as Paul Hogan nails him! The rest of the cast as cricketers is pretty good but it feels a bit forced at times. But this is all about Kerry, and it's pretty well done. Looking forward to disc 2.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Disc 2 just as good as disc 1. My wife is not interested in cricket and found it all quite interesting. I remember enjoying good mini-series that the networks used to make, particularly channel 9, so it was good to see something like this rather than the usual Underbelly tripe they serve up.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
I visited the Vatican last month and was amazed by the place, so I sought out some doco's to learn a bit more. This one delves more into the politics and history of the popes more than the buildings and museums, but it is a great insight. There is some access to areas not open to the public, such as the Pope's private chapel, which gave a good insight. The over-dramatic music nearly ruined it though.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
This role really suits Ricky Gervais and some of the writing is really funny. Loses its way mid-way through, but picks up again. Really enjoyed the bit where he first discoveres he can tell lies. Lots of cameos in this one show Ricky's pulling power.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
I wouldn't bother getting this disc out, it's basically a doco on the making of the min-series.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
This is a series of short episodes featuring the commando antics of our penguin friends from the Madagascar movies. I think they retain most of the original voices, which helps. Good for kids and adults alike, but not at the same humour levels as in the movies.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Ahh, funny stuff, and so very wrong in places. I probably couldn't watch another series straight after this as it does become a bit of a one trick pony, but it's very funny.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
If you don't like Monty Python humour, you won't get much out of this, but we had a good old laugh, particularly the scenes with Pilate and Biggus Dickus *snigger*. The Monty Python boys pop up in every scene and don't make much of an effort to change their appearance but it still works! It's like an extended skit show. John Cleese and Michael Palin are hilarious.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
I found this really disappointing. Not an original idea in sight. Think Running Man mets Big Brother meets Truman Show. The lead girl is good and Stanley Tucci has fun, but we all know the ending way before it happens. It takes an hour before the action even starts. 2 and a half stars.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Hilarious skit show based on the Cops show where the inept Reno Sherriff's Dept gets followed around. Lots of don't go there moments.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Strong performances, but dreary, depressing melodrama better suited to daytime TV. 1.5 stars
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
I'm a huge Matt Damon fan but this is probably his weakest effort. Cutesy, sappy Disney junk. And if they kept showing that little girl being cute, I was going to throw up. Really disappointing, cliche after cliche and we all know how it's going to end.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Gave me a few laughs, which is good for a comedy these days. Channing Tatum did comedy well and Jonah Hill played the same guy he does in every movie. 2 and a half stars.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
The shots of Venice are nice... That's about it. Angelina looks terrible. Almost unwell.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Loved the way it was shot, but the mystery ultimately left us unsatisfied. We had our own theories, and maybe that is what it is intended to do. It shows the good and bad in people, especially children.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
I agree with many of you here, it's a very Disney movie. Very well made, but too cliched and predictable for me.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Season 2 gets better and better as it builds to a climax. The things that separate this drama from others is the unexpected moments - who lives? Who dies? We couldn't stop watching and had to run 3 episodes back to back just to find out. Bring on season 3!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
A two episode doco on various eras in Paris where artisist dominated the cultural scene. Well presented and held my interest.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Incredibly well acted by the two leads, but the story was a bit lifeless.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Loved it - glad to have it back! More drama and high tension. Season 2 sees the introduction of some new characters, which adds to the intrigue.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
An unusual - typically French - look at a man who has a serious illness and the lives of those he see out the window or through his associates. Some have no connection to him, others are close.

Really enjoyed the motion-capture and the way it brought Tintin to life. Lots of fun and interest for ages 8 and up.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Superb. I was an avid follower of F1 in the days of Mansell, Prost, Senna and co. Lots of behind the scenes footage and stuff I had no idea about. Excellent insight into arguably the greatest driver ever.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Travolta has more fun in this film than he does getting a massage. Good to see him playing the good guy again for a change. Non-stop, good action.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Second part of season 1 focusses on character development, but they still know how to build tension and drama. Great stuff.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Not your normal biopic, but a faultless performance from Meryl Streep really lifts this film well above the average.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Best TV show around.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Too many close ups of pimply French teens kissing mirrors. It lost any interest far too quickly.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
What an ambitious movie! Who would've thought someone would have the courage to do an almosy completely silent film these days? Jean Dujardin is terrific in the lead role and a deserving Oscar winner. He really epitomised that old film star look and manner. Berenice Bejo as Peppy Miller was equally terrific with her screen presence and charm. Some will be bored, but if you love movies, don't miss it.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Wasn't sure what to expect but we always like Paul Rudd and he didn't let us down here. It's a different kind of movie but had us smiling and enjoying it all the way through. The confrontations, if you can call them that, with his ex and her new hippie partner are quite funny. Really enjoyed it.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
If you liked The Adjustment Bureau, you should get a kick out of this. I didn't think it was quite as good, but the concept is intersting and JT and his supporting cast do a pretty good job.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Kevin Smith obviously couldn't decide what sort of movie he was trying to make here. It goes from teen road trip to attempted horror/thriller to religious diatribe to action to anti-government something or other... His directorial style follows suit, with camera work jumping from traditional to hand-held and other styles where frames jump. He gives about 30 minutes of the film to the cult leader's evangelical offerings, which add nothing. A really poor attempt at film making.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
The CGI in this can't save it because the special effects are a bit as bad as the whole movie. Bit tired of seeing walls of water going down main streets. Nothing to see here people, move along...
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Who would've thought a film about mixed martial arts would keep us entertained, moved and thrilled? It's a bit by-the-numbers, but it's done so well you just fall for it. Excellent work all round, particularly Nick Nolte in his Oscar winning role.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Got the feeling that we'd seen it all before. There were some quality action sequences but nothing really new. The scenes in the world's tallest building were quite good, but the story is pretty weak.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Hasn't dated very well this early work of Robin Williams. It has its moments, but is a bit of a "day in the life" movie, only we see his whole life. John Lithgow steals the show as a transvestite former NFL star.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
The longer this movie goes, the sillier it gets. It's like a 12-inch mix of a Twilight Zone episode, so basically it's 100 minutes too long.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
I admire the patience it must take to make these stop-motion feature films, but the story lost me.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Another bleak drama from Australian film makers. The acting is quite good, but it loses its way at times.

We are sad to finish season 1 and I wasn't ready for the unexpected twist. Can't wait for season 2 currently on Foxtel to come out on DVD.

50-odd minute episodes, no ads, quality TV. Why would you watch normal free to air? This is why we love Quickflix. Excellent show.

My wife has read the books this series is based on and tells me that the series remains quite true to the books. Different plot lines and stories to follow, and all of great interest.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Don't see enough of Kevin Spacey these days, and he is is usual self in this, providing quality, understated acting.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
This wouldn't be half the movie that it was without Michael Sheen's terrific depiction of Brian Clough. It's worth You Tubing him to see how accurate he gets it. A really good sports/drama movie, but the story elevates it above a typical sports film.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
The story is very much along the lines of Liar, liar - the workaholic dad that isn't there for his kids, until a magical interlude comes along, this time in the form of penguins. Jim Carrey (yes, there are two r's in Carrey everyone) is in fine form. Great family film.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Very much in the vein of I Robot. Bruce's surrogate looks terrible with hair, but probably out-acts the human version...
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
One of my favourite movies. A rousing soundtrack, great story and excellent performances from all involved, particularly Wes Studi and Daniel Day Lewis.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
A pretty well made historical feature on Che Guevera's work in Bolivia. He comes across as being so ideological it's almost naive, but he had a clear goal in mind in lifting the standard of living for the lowliest member's of the impoverished society. Almost a mercenary, he was a fine leader, but didn't have the support of the general population in Bolivia as he seemed to in Cuba. Benecio Del Toro does a fine job as Che.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
A well made history lesson on Che's time in Cuba.

More excellent TV from the good folk at HBO. Really like Sean Bean in the lead role, and the power struggles going on are deep and dividing. High production values combined with quality acting.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
The attempts at comedy in the first part of this unusual film didn't work, but it grew on me as the film went on, and it had a quiet dingity about it that I enjoyed in the end.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
How can you go wrong with this cast? George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Phillip Seymour Hoffman (barely seen in Moneyball) and Paul Giamatti all do excellent jobs in this well made drama. It's not just apolitical drama either - it certainly starts off that way, but then the human element is introduced, and it gets better and better. Excellent viewing.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Not funny. At all.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
If you like your sports movies, this should please. Find performances from Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill and a well written script results in a quality movie. Not sure it was Best Film material, but really enjoyed it.

Terrible. Just terrible. Did not raise a smile.

Can't get enough of this show. 20 minute episodes usually, 6 on each disc, and all fabulous.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Where do they keep getting the ideas! The show is addictive as the product they make on it!
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
The tension builds and builds. Just awesome.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Couldn't wait to get into season 2 and it doesn't disappoint. Excellent.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
How this show only manages an ad hoc 11.30 timeslot in Australia amazes me. It is so well written and just funnier than the "comedy" we see in prime time here such as Two and a Half Men.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
A bit different to what I was expecting. it is more based on the stage version than the TV show, and follows an almost documentary style as it shows the progress of the assorted students. It does showcase some talent and is much better than a lot of the oter dance movies out there. 2 and a half stars.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
They're back, and funnier than ever. Matt Damon's cameo role is hilarious.

If you ever saw Bryan Cranston in Malcom in the middle, the transformation into the character of Walter White is nothing short of remarkable. This is our favourite bit of dramatic TV.

Time to add season 4 to the queue! Fabulous show.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
You will definitely get more out of this if you are a fan of the roundball game and know of the title character, Eric Cantona. It's a well-acted piece, with a good moral. Quaint English film-making.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Season 3 and the pace has not let up. The writers throw in so many dramas and twists and turns, you would think it would be hard to keep track, but it flows superbly.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
As usual, the last episode leaves you hanging for the next season. This is really well written television.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
I had high expectations, and ultimately, yhey weren't met. I liked the way it was shot and loved the music, but it didn't get me in as I had hoped. A few too many long stares and knowing looks. There's not a lot of driving for a movie called Drive...
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Midday telemovie offering which only shows that Ashton Kutchers is not a dramatic actor and Michelle Pfeiffer is getting older.

Falls in the genre of "Movies to slash your wrists to". Tilda Swinton is seriously typecast. Not sure what the writer of the book or the makers of this movie were trying to do.

Not for the faint-hearted, but this awesome performance from Tom Hardy is worth watching. A bit reminiscent of Eric Bana as Chopper, Charles Bronson, formerly known as Michael Peterson, is one of those guys that makes you wonder if he is mad or just bad. Looking forward to seeing Hardy as Bane in the next Batman instalment.

This doco on the fashion industry, and more particularly, the icy editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour, is really well made. It kept us engaged and intrigued. We really liked the creative chief Grace. A well spent 90 minutes.

Compelling TV - gets better with each episode.

Erk! Estroegen overdose! Alright, Vanessa Redgrave is okay, but she doesn't have to do much. I've read the other reviews, and if you have to rely on the scenery to get you through this, then get a Lonely Planet guide to Italy instead. What does Amanda Seyfried's character even see in Chris Egan's arrogant, pompus English (I think that's what he was trying to do) charmer? Predictable as hell - of course the correct older Italian gent has to arrive on horseback - and sappy. I needed to look at a power tools catalogue after this.

Vince Vaughn is alwyas in garbage films. I don't know why he is so influential and popular, because I've never seen anything worthwhile that he is featured in. Okay, maybe Dodgeball. Plays the same character in every movie. Not a lot of laughs, looks like an excuse to film a movie while on holiday.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Interesting story and pretty well made. You get a sense isolation and ruggedness of the Tasmanian wilderness and the desperation of the convicts. Don't go camping with these blokes.

Pretty disappointing effort overall. Jerry Bruckheimer gets some big names in to voice these highly trained hamsters, and he employs his usual high quality CGI and SFX, but it misses the mark by a long shot. Very much a Disney kids film, nothing in it for adults.

Looks like a doco, and you could be forgiven for thinking it is, but then you realise that actors are playing some of the key players (in particular her close friend and film maker). It's a bit quirky and gives you the feeling the Michael Cera plays himself in every movie he has ever been in...

I thought this was a pretty poor effort to entertain. Probably for under 10's only.

I saw some of the other reviews on here that mentioned Australian film-makers seem to be hell-bent on making movies about social taboos and difficult subjects and that is very much the case here. Well performed and nicely shot, but it's just a bit dreary. 2 and a half stars.

Solid performances from Downey Jr and Foxx and it's an interesting true story, but there was something lacking that didn't get us in emotionally. Worth a look if you like those sorts of stories

Interesting and original concept, becuase who wouldn't like to see Gretel Killeen or Mike Goldman killed by zombies? In the end though, it pretty much turns out to be another zombie movie.

Zealous Federal Agent Nelson Van Alden, played with fervour and commitment by the excellent Michael Shannon, is losing the plot. His methods are becoming more extreme, and it seems to be getting the better of him. Even he can give in to temptation! Excellent.

There are 2 episodes on most of the disc for these series and the go for around 52 minutes each. No ads, watch them at your leisure and be entertained. Kelly MacDonald is terrific as Margaret Schroeder, battling ebtween her feelings for Nucky Thomson, providing for her children and following her moral compass and the advice of her temperate associates.

The level of detail, the fine writing, the excellent acting and compelling storyline make this a first class show. TV at its best.

Things get wrapped up to a point in the final episodes, but there is clear movement for the next season. I understand season 2 has been shown and season 3 has been commissioned, so I can't wait to see them added to the Quickflix library.

Episode one, which is movie length and movie quality, really sets this fine production up. Steve Buscemi excels int he lead role, which lends itself to his comic skills, but he also gets to display his fine dramatic skills. The supporting cast is very strong, but it's the production values that really got us in. I read this first episode cost $18 million. Well, it shows. With Martin Scorcese behind the camera and Terence Winter involved, it was bound to be good.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
I was expecting a bit more out of this, but it really felt disjointed and lacking something. Starts off quite promising, but it never really develops on that. The henchmen in Berlin don't help the story at all, and I couldn't get into Cate Blanchett's character. Eric Bana was fine and Saorise Ronan (what a glorious name) is very good.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Chris Evans is not bad in this and Dakota Fanning puts in her usual accomplished performance. The idea is reasonable, although I wasn't a fan of the shrieking guys... Worth a look.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Very much ahead of its time and contains some fine performances, particularly from the indigenous actors. It's confronting and brutal in places, and challenges the viewer to "pick a side", but what it really shows is the tragedy on both sides. If you are a fan of Australian cinema, it is well worth watching.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
It's not bad as far as doco's go, but it would help if you were a fan of fashion, as it is jam-packed with prancing, primping fashionistas.... You can't deny Valentino's passion for design and his creative abilites, but there are alot of tantrums thrown for grown men...

D-grade schlock made by high school students. Avoid.

John Travolta over-acts in this one, but seems to enjoy it, so he is watchable. Denzel saves it though, and is excellent as usual. Haven't seen the original, but this is pretty good. Keeps you watching, good tension.

Not a full on comedy, more of a whimsical road tip and buddy movie. A good tour guide for a trip up to Cape York as well! Hoges is quite different in this, nad it's an easy movie to watch. Certainly seen a lot worse. Worth watching.

Why would Michael Douglas sign up for a midday movie like this? It has very few moments of promise but it is then spoiled by a terrible ending.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
The producers of this one have done well in not making it too All-American cheesy. It gets close, but generally doesn't cross the line. Hugo Weaving is getting quite the reputation for playing lead villian. But it's only because he does it so well. The ending was a bit lacking, as it is a clear lead-in to The Avengers, and doesn't really give much away with what happened with Steve Rogers when he crashed. Worth a look.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
You can almost picture all the arty types associated with this movie slapping themselves on the back for a job well done - thinking they have produced something provocative and contoversial. Well, it's not. In fact, it's dead boring. It's a waste of time. The only positive I got out of it was seeing Ewan Leslie (star of the Melbourne Theatre Company's Richard the 3rd in it as Birdman, but even his role made no sense. Don't bother.

Much better than part 1 of The Deathly Hallows as it actually has some action and story development! It all comes to a head, and the production is first class. This one kept me interested and was quite exciting. 3 and a half stars.

The imagery is quite beautiful and the music is great, but at 120-odd minutes, this turns into a bit of a slog. It borders on self-indulgent and I can see why people would hate it. We were pretty confused at the end. There are some fine moments, but they are few and far between. Not a traditional movie by any stretch.

Just so incredibly boring. Wooden performances. Uninspiring dialogue. Zzzzz.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
A very well made documentary that is sure to get your heart pumping and your blood boiling. It doesn't try to preach, but it doesn't need to, as the subject matter seems so damn straightforward. The arguments for the "other" side seem pretty flimsy most of the time. Everyone should see this, and I know we signed on-line petitions after watching it. A terrible situation captured expertly. Do not miss.

Not sure what Ang Lee was trying to achieve with this, but he missed the mark as far as I was concerned. Cliched characters, a boring performance from the lead actor just a lack of interesting moments.

The Kung Fu Panda movies have the great mix of action and comedy. There is enough action going on that will keep younger audiences entertained, and the writing and dialogue will keep everyone else laughing. Jack Black epitomises Po, and it is worth watching the extras to see his work voicing the film. Equally, James Hing as his adoptive Dad is terrific as well. Lots of fun, stay tuned for Kung Fu Panda 3.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
This is easily one of the better Australian films I have seen. The production was of high quality and very realistic, particularly the images of the somewhat carefree but high spirited Balibo five. A tragic and touching story of the dangers of being in a war zone and being forgotten or ignored by your government. It doesn't grandstand or over-dramatise it, but it's fair to say you will form a view at the end.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Amelia feels a bit like movie-making by numbers for much of the first half, but it does improve, and by the end, we were quite into it. A solid performance from Hilary Swank, who seems to have really captured Amelia's bravado and courage. A reasonable film about quite a pioneer. 2 and a half stars.

We didn't think this had the humour to keep adults as entertained as some of the other animated features we have seen recently, such as Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. It's more aimed at the kids market. It's brilliantly made and great to watch, but lacked a little in story and writing.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
This animated feature is so well made and written, it had us from the get-go. Johhny Depp's voice, while sometimes unrecognisable, is perfect as the noble but erratic lead character. Isla Fisher as Beans is also very good. The production is first class and kids will enjoy the action on screen, while adults should get a laugh out of the very clever dialouge. Don't miss.

Oh, Rob. Why do I get the feeling that you think you are more talented than you actually are? Schneider stars, directs and produces this straight to DVD B-grade comedy. I think he means well, but his ambition well exceeds his talent.

I have seen Robert Rodriguez's work before, and I felt with Machete, that he tried too hard. He tried to make it as ridiculous and gory as possible, and it just didn't work. Over the top. Did enjoy seeing Steven Seagal back on screen though.

We kind of got into this the more it went on, but it took a while. But in the end, we wanted to keep watching and find out what happened, so I guess that's half the battle for this type of movie. Happy to say I picked the "twist" well before it happened. I really hate those people in horror movies that never believe those closest to them and side with the evil newcomer...
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
Two stars and for the special effects only, as they are just astounding. The destruction of Chicago and the Transformers themselves really set the standard in CGI. But the rest of the movie is truly forgettable. I am so over Shia Le Bouf. And the latest "eye candy" girlfriend of hsi is woeful. It was just an opportunity to put a model on screen wearing different white dresses. Her pout is so bad her top lip touches her nose at times. And any scene with Sam's parents made me want to fast forward. Take the humans out of this franchise as they just wreck it.

I keep saying why do I bother after watching one of these so-called horror flicks. This has it's share of shock and schlock, but it's just a bore. Oh and thanks a lot Clay.

Saw this on the big screen and it is excellent. So different to all those other armageddon type movies. A quality cast, but this movie is not character led. It has minimal narrative but you know exactly what is happening. It approaches the spread of a deadly disease from a number of points of view, from the scientists, to the conspiracy theorists. Superbly directed by Soderbergh. Excellent.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Gee, talk about depressing. After just seeing Forest Whittaker down on his luck in Powder Blue, he turns up in this. It's a story of how people are affected by trauma, in this case, a shooting in a diner. It's not made clear why it happened, but it focuses on how those involved cope or react. And most don't do it well. Guy Pearce pops up in a good role.
(Maybe) - review by Andrew
It's clear that they spend a fortune on these films, but aside from Geoffrey Rush, it's all a bit tired. Even Johnny Depp's drunkard rollicking gets boring after a time. Not a lot of pirate action either, it's more like an Indiana Jones movie. Penelope Cruz struggles to fill Keira Knightley's shoes as the token female as well. 2 and a bit hours equals 2 and a bit stars.

Jet Li's finest work. He has such a strong screen presence. Andy Lau is also terrific in this Chinese dram full of intrigue, politics and action. Some of the best battlefield scenes I've ever seen. Really well made and a great story. 3 and a half stars.

Just gets by with a pass mark thanks to the presence of Forest Whittaker and Ray Liotta. Jessical Biel can't act very well, but she is very good to look at in this one. Depressing and slow moving, with very little to keep you interested. 1 and a half stars.

Michael Douglas should play a mental patient more often. Just grow the beard, bring out the crazy eyes and there he is. It made me think that he hasn't really stretched himself or taken too many risks in his acting career. He is good in this and it's a very low budget movie with a simple story.

Not bad, and definitely helped by the considerable screen presence of Robert Downey Jnr. Hadn't seen the lead actor before or since and I thought he as quite good. It's a bit of a different high school movie, and had a bit to offer.

Bit of a midday matinee this one. A good ensemble cast and strong performance from Dakota with a southern drawl. Paul Bettany pops up in an unusual role as well as her abusive father. If you like The Colour Purple and similar films, this one should please.

This one is hard work and not very rewarding for those who choose to sit through it. It's an Australian production featuring John Malkovich in a fine lead performance as the lecturer without regrets seeking solace at his daughter's farm. Post-Apartheid South Africa at its worst in many ways, but some signs of hope as well.

A doco with no narration - just footage of 4 differnet bubs from different parts of the world: Mongolia, Tokyo, San Franciso and Africa. It's very interesting to see how each are raised and nurtured - some obvious differences, but it doesn't seem to be at the expense of the youngsters. In fact, it's almost like the children from the 3rd world countries develop quicker. We got some laughs out of the little Mongolian boy too, quite the mischief maker. 3 and half stars.

2 and a half stars for what looks like the last instalment of a franchise that is getting old. I didn't get enough laughs out of this one and there wasn't a lot of originality about it either. Good one for kids - careful what you wish for!

Ahhh Winona, where have you been? Shoplifting apparently, but aren't you past that? And Lindsay Lohan still gets work, and she's done more than you did! It's a shame we don't see more of WInona these days and Wes Bentley just disappeared into oblivion. He plays the tortured soul with ease. Ray Romano puts in a different performance and does an able job. This is not a comedy as billed either, more of a drama romance, with a couple of laughs. Oh, and Quickflix must only have one copy of this hidden away, as it took me well over a year to get it out of my top 5, and here I am, the first review of it!

Can anyone play a nasty bogan better than Hugo Weaving? He has this character mastered from the start, and it's worth watching him alone. Add to that the fine performance of young Tom Russell and you have an excellent piece of Australian cinema. Well shot, superbly acted and finely directed.

Very much a "Maybe". Jesse Eisenberg - read Michael Cera - plods along as the whimsical teen with hopes and dreams. The only really funny bits feature Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, but those scenes are few and far between. It's not terrible, but I've seen a lot better. And this film also reminded me (as if I needed it) that Kristen Stewart cannot act.

Not really sure what to make of this. I think it was the start of Joaquin's descent into obscurity and general weirdness. There's no doubt he's a fine actor, but this is a very slow movie with not a lot of moments, and I found myslf quickly disinterested.

If you want a more objective but equally scary look at America's economic woes and scandals, IOUSA does a much better job. Michael Moore splices together some good footage, but some of his scenes are too set-up. I liked his earlier work.

A very well made Australian film. In fact. you can't even tell it's Australian, which is very odd for an Australian film, as they usually seem to try very hard to make sure you can tell it's all Aussie. Bruce Greenwood does a terrific job as ben Stevenson, the ballet company director/choreographer. Who'd have thought he coupld play JFK so well and then do such a fine job as a campish Brit?
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Very easy to follow and reasonably partisan doco about America's debt crisis. Gives you a good insight into how and why it happened and what has or hasn't been done to stop it. It's now a couple of years old (2008), and it seems not much has changed.

There's no doubt you need to have some knowledge of Star Wars to really get into this. I quite enjoyed it, particularly the immature but likeable Hutch. Some of the cameos and lines they use are terrific. A fun road movie.

Right up there with the best music doco's I have ever seen. You don't have to like metal to get into this, but it probably helps. The eternal optimism and hope of these bandmates is hard not to admire, and at times, I even felt sorry for their run of hard luck. It's made by a former roadie and is really well done. Great to see they are now getting some success on the back of this movie, opening for AC/DC and other giants of metal.

We all know Stone Cold is no actor, but that's not what he brings to these movies. He brings a presence, a gruff nature and a huge spirit. This is a bit of WWF action, with the dodgy managers and all of the other cliches. He's not the worst action hero going around and the fight scenes are solid, but this is for his fans only.

It starts off with Jack welcoming us to season 4 - which is of course a new fusion restaurant and he's not talking to us, but his TGS/NBC colleagues. More really good stories with great guest apearances from James Franco, Al Gore (again!) and a few appearances of the irrepresible, and my favourite semi-regular, Dr Spaceman.

Alec Baldwin just gets better and better as Jack Donaghy. The stories aren't over-developed, but we keep coming back to familiar story lines, so there is a real sense of continuity. And it's staying funny.

I had no idea what to expect from this, thinking ti would be almost documentary in style, but it's not. If only JCVD showed this acting ability in his regular movies. His piece to camera is superb. Stick with this as it takes a bit to get going.

I wondered why this film went straight to DVD and didn't get a cinema release in Australia, but now that I have watched it, it's not that difficult to see why. While Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor do fine jobs of their characters, I can see that the story wouldn't have had broad appeal. I thought it was okay, but Jim has done a lot better.

Can't get enough of this and have added the next three seasons to my queue. There are a total of 4 seasons in total, and even though season 1 was done in 2007, it hasn't dated. There are so many great lines in this that we found ourselves hitting the pause button on occasion to recover from laughing so we didn't miss the next moment. Terrific.

Apparently Season 1 wasn't watched by a lot of people, but after cleaning up at the Emmy's, it has gone on to be a real success story on all levels. The writing is sharp and hilarious, the characters likeable and hilarious, and the show is just hilarious. Best TV comedy since Scrubs for me.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Disc 1 of season 1 starts with the pilot where we get to meet the characters of 30 Rock. You can see that production values improve once we get past the pilot, and it gets funnier and funnier. Alec Baldwin is superb as the gravelly-voiced Jack Donaghy, and TIna Fey shines in her acting and writing. Great supporting cast, particularly Kenneth the page.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
This movie is so ridiculous, over the top and far-fetched it turns out to be a bit of a hoot because you can see no-one is taking it seriously. The premise is crazy, but Jason Statham laps it up in his own inimitable style. We liked the way it was shot and edited too. Rated R for good reason, so don't bother if you are offended by language, violence and gratuitous topless women. Escapist action and fun.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Season 2 of 30 Rock clearly shows the high regard the series is held in after it cleaned up at the Emmy's after season 1. The sheer star power - Jerry Seinfeld, Carrie Fisher, Al Gore - is testament to this, and the writing and storylines remain as sharp as season 1. There are some great moments when Lemon goes on a Seinfeld-like rant (including "What's the deal?"), Carrie Fisher saying Lemon is her only hope, a-la Obi Wan Kenobi, and Al Gore removing his jacket as he looks skyward and says :There's a whale in trouble". Fabulous, funny. Some of the fat jokes about Jane Krakowski's character are the funniest things I have seen in a TV show.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Very typical Tarantino, lots of dialogue and gore! The gore does get a bit out of hand at times, but the dialogue is fabulous, particularly Brad Pitt and Christopher Waltz as the arrogant Nazi hunter. It didn't drag for me and I enjoyed the characters.

Agree with most here in saying that this movie was just too slow and ponderous and really didn't get into the depts it could've. Enjoy Matt Damon in anything he does, but he was fairly limited in this one. Clint Eastwood's music is wonderful as always, but there just wasn't enough going on for me to enjoy this more than 2 stars.

Quite different to what I was expecing. Not a traditional rom-com by any means, and quite a few funny moments. Thomas Haden Church is the scene-stealer, and the not so subtle digs at how the media works in these situations were terrific. 2 and 1/2 stars.

The first minute with the titles is enough to tell just how bad this movie is going to be. It's terrible and makes me wonder just how these rom-coms get financed. B-grade stuff.

Really enjoyable chase-type movie. Please ignore the promotional material that compares this to any of the Bourne films ("Bourne meets Inception"). It has more in common with Inception that Bourne. Interesting idea and it moves along at a solid pace. Emily Blunt looks and is fabulous in this. Just try keeping your eyes off her as she runs in that dress! We couldn't. Excellent movie.

I enjoyed Rachel Weisz in this, as I do in most movies she appears in, but overall, there was something lacking. It was quirky and had moments of humour and interest, but just didn't hold my full interest or leave me wanting more.

The strong suit of this movie is the acting of Christian Bale. Can you believe this guy plays Batman? He is just fabulous as Dicky Ward, and is more than ably supported by Melissa Leo as his indulgent mother. Rightfully awarded with Oscars, the Ward family has a distinctly Aussie bogan feel about it, and we laughed every time there was a group shot of the sisters. Terrific.

While Jeff Bridges was hard to understand for most in my household, I discovered I speak drunken cowboy and had very little problem understanding his mumblings. It's fabulously acted, but the highlight for me was the writing. Some lines of pure genius are sprinkled throughout. I could really see Glenn Campbell (who play Lebouf in the original) coming through in Matt Damon as well. A great watch.

Judd Apatow has his fingerprints all over this one. Kristen Wiig is fabulous as the hapless but sweet maid of honour and is ably supported by some great characters and dialogue, particulary Megan. It's a bit of a Hangover movie, so don't think this is a chick flick. It's rude, crude and very, very funny. Better than Hangover 2 for sure. Lots of laughs.

In a word, sumptuous! While we thought Emily Blunt was a bit too good looking as the young Victoria, that didn't detract from our viewing pleasure an dprobably added to it. Fabulous locations, costumes and production. Don't miss if you love your period/costume dramas.

You need to have watched every teen dance movie to get any value/laughs out of this. So if you have seen Take The Lead, Step Up, Save The Last Dance et al, you might get a chuckle. Oh, and you also need to be under 16 years of age.

I found it much funnier when he wasn't just going for shock value and actually put some effort into the writing. For example, I thought the scenes at the army base were easily the best. Basically, it seems he is trying to hard to offend, and misses some good opportunites for humour.

Christopher Plummer is great and its nice to see Heath on screen, but this movie is too long and convoluted. The cameos from Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell are fun, but the whole story is a bit whacky.

(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Between this one and Dear John, I fear I am losing all of my masculinity. This is one for the girls. Costumes are fabulous and Stanley Tucci is ok, but it's just a vehicle for Cher and Christina to warble and trill away. Predictable as hell, and if you don't know the ending within half an hour, you're not paying attention!

This might entertain some, but it could be a bit of a drag for others. It's sort of a romantic drama about a poker player played by our Eric, with mullett attached. Drew Barrymore plays a simpleton, as with most of her roles. The poker action drags out in the last half hour and the overall movie is probably too long. The one real saving grace is Robert Duvall, who plays Eric's dad. His time on screen always lifts the movie.

This was filmed in Melbourne, and while some of the background looks very Australian, I barely recognised the locations. The sand dunes looked more like Central NSW around Stockton. It just didn't work for me as a movie. I couldn't really get into what it was trying to do. It's different, which helps me give it 2 stars, but I didn't like that much about it.

A sob fest that should've been sponsored by Kleenex. I hated Cameron Diaz's character in this, but maybe I was supposed to. The girls perform well and Alec Baldwin is quite good, but this movie is all about turning on the waterworks.

Any costume drama involving Colin Firth can usually be relied upon to deliver some reasonable entertainment, and he is the shining light in this. It just seemed to miss something and the special effects toward the end didn't help.

My fiance really liked this but I wasn't that sure about it. To me, it felt like another Underbelly, with more slow motion and mood music. I can't see how the makers put the disclaimer at the end saying that the movie is not base don any real events and any resemblance is purely coincidental when the whole film is clearly based on Walsh Street and the Pettinghill family. I thought it glorified them and made them out to be half decent people, when we know that most of them are murderous junkies. I struggled to separate the movie from the real life events, so maybe that ruined it for me. If you have no knowledge of Walsh St, then you might enjoy it more.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
If you go into this movie with a distaste for Australian film, this won't change your mind. In fact, it will probably reinforce your view. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either, and that was probably because it was helped by the presence of Geoffrey Rush. I thought the rest of the cast was pretty average. It was just watchable for me.

Very different role for Peter Saarsgard, who I enjoyed immensly in Garden State and many of his other films. Carey Mulligan is fabulous as she gets sucked in to a glamourous lifestyle. A very mature performance. Beautifully shot, great fashions and worth watching.

Had some promise, but too many holes and weak performances. Since when does the District Attorney do raids and detective work. And why does the helicopter turn up at the same time as the cars every time? Surely it gets there quicker. There are some violent moments and ingenious ways of blowing things up, but overall it's a disappointment.

This is the second time I have seen this film and it hasn't lost any of its appeal for me. Sam Rockwell gives a stellar (interstellar?) performance, ranging from obsessed and manic to alone and tragic. It's incredible that this film was done on such a small budget, as it doesn't show. Directed by Zoey Bowie - now known as Duncan Jones, it's an homage to 2001 and other similar sci-fi classics. Feelings of loneliness, the vastness of space and the "helpful" robot are all nods to previous classics. I loved it.

I went into this with low expectations, having read the reviews and not having heard much about the film, despite the impressive cast. It wasn't as bad as I expected, and De Niro is much better to watch in this than some of his other recent efforts (Meet The Fockers...). Bruce Willis is a classic. It was a movie about choices, and whenever De Niro's character had to make a choice over his work and his family life - including reconciling with his wife - he always chose work.

This movie, which I understand was a passion for Viggo Mortensen, feels very much like a stage play. As other reviewers have mentioned, it shows how a bit of power and adoration can make normally good people make terrible choices. I hated the English accents too - made no sense to me. It was okay, but didn't drag me in.

This is quite a history lesson of a film. Took me a while to get into it, but it goes for long enoug, so I had plenty of time to do so. The use of real news footage was well done, and the cast were excellent, playing arrogant and over-exuberant characters as well as more subdued types.Their beliefs and methods were effective yet cowardly in many ways, but the passion that they pursued their cause with was undeniable.

This is how action films should be done! Tongue firmly in cheek, quality cast, reasonable story and plenty of action! All of the actors in this seem to be having a blast. Really enjoyable.

The casting really makes this film - Amy Adams as the former cheerleader, whose dreams all seem to have vanished, and Emily Blunt as her under-achieving sister are both terrific in this. Nice support from Alan Arkin and Steve Zahn too. A different sort of movie, not gory at all for those worried about the subject matter, and really easy to watch.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie. Really enjoyed Christian Bale's character, but Johnny Depp didn't seem to develop Dillinger as well. Still worth watching though, lots of street gun fights and chases.

For the fans only. No attempt made to engage new viewers to the franchise. And not a lot happens to progress the plot. Technically, it's great, but the story dragged for me and it's just way too dark. I preferred the earlier ones, with their sense of fun and adventure, rather than the whole darkness of the more recent sequels.

A story about soccer hooligans in England, and a group of them that are "led" by a black Englishman raised by white parents. These guys are possibly the dumbest people on earth. Well that's what I "fought" anyway...

A really gritty, well made heist film. Shades of Heat (De Niro/Pacino) with some of the street battles. Affleck really captures the essence of the the Detroit suburb he resides in. Terrific viewing. They are talented people, those Affleck boys.

For the fans only. Not as good as the first effort, or Robot Chicken that is referenced in this 50 minute cartoon adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back. You need to know the Star Wars movies to watch this, as the jokes were lost on those that didn't know them. Some really clever references and comments throughout.

I was only going to give this one star, by my fiance convinced me it was worth two stars, so it is probably more for the girls this one. Joe Mantegna tries a bit hard and ends up being a caricature. The two leads are okay, but it is never quite explained why Elvis did what he did. In any explanation, it would be totally weird.

While we thought The King's Speech outdid this for overall movie experience, this is an excellent piece of work. Brilliantly written, directed and acted, it makes the story really interesting. Not sure how much faith we can have in the accuracy of it all, but it makes for intruiging viewing. Terrific.

We have enjoyed Isla Fisher in a couple of other light comedies, but she doesn't help this one at all. I'm surprised Jason Biggs gets any work these days, he essentially plays that same bumbling guy we all saw in American Pie. Not a leading man, by any means. Laughs are few and far between, although his parents are humourous.
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
I'm not sure about the reviews here that watch a WIll Ferrell comedy and then complain that the acting wasn't of high quality. What did you expect?? The humour in this is off beat and fairly random, and might even take a couple of viewings to capture. We found it hilarious in small places, amusing in others and overall, very easy to watch. 3.5 stars.

I also found myself comparing this to the 10th Anniversary Special and the cast wasn't as strong, particularly Michael Ball as the original Marius and Phillip Quast as the quintessential Javert. This is the cast I saw perform it live, and they still hold the mantle as the best ever. Nick Jonas (who I didn't realise ws one of those Disney Jonas Brothers freaks until half way through!) has more of a pop music voice than a musical theatre voice, but he does improve as the show goes on. I thought Alfie Boe was excellent, and the power in his voice was quite remarkable. The encores are worth watching alone. Spectacular. Running time is close to 3 hours and not the 100 mins listed here.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Starts off with some real promise, but it quickly becomes standard fare. Couldn't work out how Cameron Diaz went from a screaming wreck to a gun-toting secret agent. Peter Sarsgaard under-utilised. Some reasonable moments, and we found it enjoyable enough to watch, but only just.

I've enjoyed Kaufman's movies in the past, particularly Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation, but this one went straight over my head. Philip Seymour Hoffman is superb, but I'm with a few of the other reviewers here in that it was simply lost on me.

I have also seen Paul Blart - Mall Cop, which a lot of reviewers here are comparing this too, and fair enough too. Same location, same rotund leading man playing a security guard with delusions of importance. This is definitely the MA15 version, so don't get this for grandma babysitting the kids. You can actually give the movie a miss, and you won't be any worse off. It's like a "Before they were famous" vehicle for Seth Rogen and Anna Faris, and the laughs are few and far between.

Well I hope the book that this is based on is better, because this was a pathetic excuse for a movie. Michael Cera plays the same character he has played in every movie so far, but less likeable. Yeh he's goofy and sweet, but I really couldn't see what the girls were competing for. He was a sap. The characters are not likeable, the story is boring and I was expecting better from the music as well. Do not compare this to Juno, it is not in the same ballpark. No stars!
(Don't bother!) - review by Andrew
Starts very strongly, but then became a bit tedious once I knew what was going on and I was just waiting for what seemed to be the inevitable conclusion. The last act does lift somewhat and Leo is excellent in his confused state. Well worth watching, but I didn't think it was a thriller.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Might bore some, but we found it to be an interesting enough history lesson, but I am sure it would've failed miserably but for Alan Rickman, who is perfect for the role. The younger actors don't offer much though, and we felt the sub-plot relationships were not required.

A really strong, almost documentary-like portrayal of life in Italy when you are part of organised crime. It shows how it is very much inescapable for many of the residents of the slum areas around Naples and Caserta. You can just see how it is going to end in violence and tears for so many of the players. As an aside, the running time is more like over 2 hours, rather than the 100mins listed here.

It really is the acting in this film that lifts it above the mediocre. It's one of those films that grows on you as you watch. Really enjoyed Mark Ruffalo, who seems to pop up in so many films, and Annette Bening and Julianne Moore are excellent. By my favourite in this is the young Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, who is fabulous in this. Big future ahead for her I hope.

Saw this on the big screen in the same week I saw the first instalment on DVD. This sequel doesn' t match up the the drama of the first by a long stretch. We still enjoyed the non-Hollywood casting and understated acting, but things went a bit astray with the whole buried alive scene.

Not sure how this gets an average of three stars when four out of the six reviewers have given it one star and only one Quickflix member has given it three stars... I was expecting a fairly poor film after reading the reviews of this, and while it wasn't as bad as I expected, it still wasn't great. Russell Crowe's appearances are few and far between and Laura Dern features even less. It was watchable in the end, and I didn't mind the "build up". Probably a good example for believers in karma.

While watching this, I commented that I felt like I was watching a stage play. Lo and behold - and pardon my ignorance - it was revealed in the end credits that it was indeed based on a play by Noel Coward. I found Colin Firth was the only redeeming feature of this movie, which I felt couldn't decide what it was trying to be. Part slapstick, part drama, and sometimes I swear they were going to break out in song. Not for me, might please others.

This is a bit of a masculine take on a rom-com. It's actually quite different and we were waiting for some twist or revelation that never arrived. Entertaining, original, light, fun.

Is this all Matthew McConaughey does these days? Really poor effort this one. The laughs are few and far between and we all know how it's going to end. Why is a good rom-com so hard to find?

I'm with a lot of you - this movie had a lot of potential, particularly with the cast, but it just seems to peter out to an almost nothing experience. Mildly amusing in places andnot terrible to watch, but it misses the mark by a far distance.

Started off okay but got fairly boring and predictable as it went on. There were some good moments of comic relief, mainly supplied by the rich geek pretending to be Zac Efron's dad. I haven't seen much of Zac before and he does a fine job of playing the lead. But I still couldn't see what my teenage daughter saw in him...

Probably a good movie for teens - certainly more going for it than the Twilight genre and other garbage that gets sent the way of teens! Drew Barrymore has a blast with this and it shows. Ellen Page does another fine job as the teenager with angst and is well supported by some fun girls.

I think it's fair to say that this80's movie hasn't dated very well at all. Still some memorable moments, but purely for the fans. Christopher Lambert was better as Tarzan I think, and may have used the same dialogue coach for this movie. The 80's fashions are fun to see, but movie-making has come a long way since this came out!

Very well executed, amazing visuals and the most complex storyline since The Matrix. In fact, there are quite a few echoes of The Matrix in this. You've got to pay attention in this one, as you can quickly lose track of what is going on. It's a great concept though and quite intruiging in the end. By the way, for those members with an iPhone, try the Inception app. It's free and pretty cool.

Predictable? Tick. Cliched? Tick. Katherine Heigl in a rom-com? Tick. Laughs are few and far between and we all know what's going to happen.

Saw this in 3D IMAX when it was first out and really enjoyed it, got taken in by the visuals and creativity of James Cameron. Now that I have seen the DVD as well, I would still recommend this movie highly, but if you can see it in 3D and on a big screen, then that's a must. I found it lost a lot in the transition to small screen and looked a lot more cartoon-ish. The story is still terrible and predictable and cliched, but it's still a terrific flick.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Take it or leave it, we got some good laughs out of this but you really need to be in the mood for lowbrow humour, as I often am... The modern language and reactions to historic events and situations brought plenty of laughs for us, but it's not something I'd rush out and see again. Michael Cera plays the dorky teen again and Jack Black plays himself, again.

Good performances in this movie, and if you enjoy music, particularly the blues, you should enjoy this. We liked the different characters that arrived at Chess Records, particularly Howlin' Wolf. His gravelly voice and commanding presence were well portrayed. You never quite know if Leonard Chess (played compassionately by Adrien Brody) is fleecing his charges or not, but he seems to show concern for them and a real friendship. He certainly develops more than this with Etta James, with Beyonce getting to show off that marvellous voice. Worth watching, a good history lesson.

A reasonable family movie from Disney, as you would hope. The Rock does a good job, and it's pleasing to see him doing these sort of fun movies rather than going down the Vin Diesel 'Pacifier' path. The kids are really good in it as well, but the government response is a bit cliched. Lots of excitement and would be good for the kids around 10 to 14.

Lots of fun. Just remember it's rated MA15 for a reason, so if you don't like bad language, keep away! The role is perfect for Russell Brand and Jonah Hill does an able job as he tries to get Russell to the Greek Theatre.

This is a pretty slow and quiet movie, but that's exactly what it is meant to be. Michelle WIlliams is excellent and almost unrecognisable as Wendy, who is obviously having a rotten run of luck, some of bought on herself, and others just thrown upon her. The decision she makes at the end will have dog lovers reaching for the kleenex!

It's a bit like watching Clive Owen in Duplicity, but this is an enjoyable, action-packed and intruiging movie. The shoot-out in the Guggenheim is pretty spectacular and had us wondering how much of that was CGI or real. Worth watching.

This is some of Daniel Craig's better work. Also liked Liev Schreiber, who doesn't usually do anything for me. Really interesting story and it's very well made. I read up on the true stories after seeing the film and it was amazing what these villagers and townspeople accomplished living in the woods. Worth watching for history and war film buffs.

Not as good as the first starts my review, but it's blockbuster stuff done very well. Certainly leaves the Transformers sequel in its jet-propelled wake. It loses thep lot a little bit, but the inclusion of Don Cheadle at the expense of Terrence Howard does it no harm at all. More good fun acting from Downey Junior and Scarlett is just divine. Special effects are awesome. A touch long but great entertainment.

We watched this with the Year 11 student of the house who is reading the book/play on which the movie is based. But I also read this book in year 11 some 20 years ago... Not much changes in the curriculum... Worth watching for Daniel Day Lewis' performance alone, and it reminds me how much I miss Winona Ryder on the big screen. Although I had to laugh at Commandant Lesard from Police Academy as one of the judges. I was waiting for a scene at a podium...
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Unexpected casting works really well. It's not a traditional Sherlock Holmes, but it's very entertaining. Downey Jr and Law make a good combination in screen and seem to have as much fun making this as we did watching it. It really is how big blockbusters should be done more often.
(Excellent) - review by Andrew
Probably could've cut around 30min out of this without losing anything, but I still loved it. It amazes me how Hollywood blockbusters with multi-million dollar budgets can't make simple things, such as fight scenes, or injuries look as real as they do in this movie. The acting is quite brilliant, particularly from the lead. The looks on his face as he experiences certain things, such as his first flight, or his first taste of heroin are just so unforced and real - I forgot I was watching an actor. Excellent - best French film we have seen in a long time.

Easy to watch, easy to listen to Pierce Brosnan's narration. A good cast kept us interested for the duration of the movie. Not a lot happens, but it's not the type of movie. It's very much a matinee. Give it a go if you are into the 40's type movies.

A good action/sci-fi film. Not up there with the first two Terminator films, but on its own, its an entertaining movie. I wasn't sure about Christian Bale as John Connor - he doesn't strike me as a grown up version of Edward Furlong! But it's very well made, with plenty happening and a good performance in another big movie by Sam Worthington.

Found this to be a waste of time. Apart from Renee's involvement with Harry, we don't really find out just why she likes the place so much and what she has done to bring the factory workers on side. It is not explained how she gets the factory going again after sacking the foreman, and it's all a bit too convenient. Renee could've done a lot more with this.

Enjoyed the writing and acting, but spent far too much time in this movie wondering where it was going, and by the end of it, I wasn't much the wiser. Always enjoy Jeremy Northam though, especially in costume or period drama. Sam Neil seems to enjoy his role very much. It gets a bit strange but it's watchable.

An enjoyable and entertaining romp through a small patch of England's music and radio history. Excellent cast, really liked Bill Nighy and Rhys Ifans in their respective roles, just made for them. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is such a versatile actor, he can almost do anything. There's a lot of formula and cliche, but it was a fun Saturday night movie.

Not up there with the Pixar and Dreamworks animated features, but pretty easy to watch. Very predictable and more aimed at youngsters. Steve Buscemi is perfect as Igor's sidekick, but wasn't sure of John Cusack's non-descript voice in the lead role. 2 and a half stars.

My partner had read the book and thought this was a reasonable adaptation, with the usual gaps when transferring from print to screen. She thought the characters were pretty spot on. It's better than a lot of Brendan Fraser's work - although his resume just seems to read "appeared in family/adventure films", because we don't see him in anything else. Maybe that's a good thing.

I spent most of my time in this film wondering how it got a cinema release in Australia. It really is straight-to-DVD garbage. Maybe a couple of moments where I had a laugh, but it's a real struggle.

I saw this on the big screen and it doesn't have the impact of the first, despite having lots of recent material to use such as the Global Financial Crisis. I enjoyed when Michael Douglas was on screen, but I just didn't buy Shia Le Bouf as a Wall Street energy expert. He looks like a high school kid in everything he does and I think he was totally miscast in this. Frank Langella is excellent but overall, there isn't much to get into. Good cameo from Charlie Sheen. Two and a half stars.

We went in to this latest version of Robin Hood with fairly low expectations after the poor reviews it received at the cinemas, but we were pleasantly surprised. Mind you, it's not Robin Hood as you know it, it's very much pre-Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest. It's more Robin Hood meets Braveheart meets Gladiator. Very well made, fine cast and overall, very entertaining. Plenty of action and excitment, good guys and bad guys. Blockbuster stuff.

Interesting story about an inventor's obsession with getting the credit he deserves rather than being driven by money. Greg Kinnear does a fine job in the lead role, whose passion and obsession lead to the disintegration of everything around him. It could probably be a touch shorter, but the ending should help keep you interested.

I would rather watch Isla Fisher and a fun movie like this than so-called genuine stars liek Sarah Jessica Parker in the garbage that she puts out. Fisher really shines in this, showing her comedic talents and working the dramatic angle as well. Light and easy to watch but plenty of laughs and the supporting cast is excellent.

I didn't think this was anything like the Bourne films (which I love), but found it was really well made, with a terrific story line and excellent performance from Matt Damon. Excellent action scenes, very realistic and great build up of tension. Well paced, well made.

How could you go wrong with Tina Fey and Steve Carrell in the lead roles? Lots of hilarious moments and they have great chemistry that makes it much more fun.

I found that this had a few gaps to start, that there were moments of interest interspersed among moments of tedium, but the second half of the film lifts and it is really enjoyable. Original and lots of fun. If you don't like to hear 11 year old girls swearing, steer clear, but I found her character fantastic. A great choice of role by Nic Cage for a change too.
(Worth watching) - review by Andrew
Ricky Gervais is really good in this, and we got plenty of laughs out of it. His character is obnoxious and self-centred, and Ricky makes the most of this, with some biting one-liners. It didn't stray into melodrama and pretty much held it's light comedy line throughout. Easy to watch.

I like a good heist film, and this one kept me guessing for most of it. Excellent casting, especially Tom WIlkinson and Paul Giamatti as the rival CEO's. It does get a bit confusing at times but that is all cleared up as the film goes along. The jumping back and forward may annoy some viewers, and it had me wondering where the movie was going, so I found it reasonably effective. Chemistry between Owen and Roberts was good.

I actually saw the sequel "The girl who played with fire" before I saw this one at an advanced screening, but as I saw them in the same week, it was pretty easy to compare them. This was the better movie for mine, with more tension building and a mor einteresting story line. I like how the Swedes (and most Eurpoean films) don't have your typical Hollywood types in the lead roles; it makes for more believable viewing. Lots going on in this to keep you busy working it out, good drama and very good acting.

I've got to stop getting these sorts of films out. They are inevitably disappointing and a complete waste of time. Is this supposed to be a horror? There were very few moments that raised the tension or thrills. Pretty boring overall.

John Cusack's anti-war/anti-Bush effort has some okay moments, but I could never work out what it was trying to be. Comedy, drama, commentary, I'm not sure. There were some moments that totally lost me, but there was a bit of fun as well.

Bit of a nothing film. Dustin and Emma put in accomplished performances, but I couldn't really feel for them or get into this deeply. As if you would tell your real father on the eve of your wedding that he won't be walking you down the aisle...

I think Jeff Bridges put in a fine performance in this easy to watch film. Maybe not Oscar-worthy on its own, but I am happy for Jeff to have one for his body of work. We could not see what Maggie Gyllenhaal's actually saw in Bad Blak and why she fell for him so fast. I couldn't see any chemistry or attraction with Bad as he was fairly grotesque at that time. Jeff Bridges' musical performance is very strong as well.

This is for fans of foreign cinema and animation, but not your Pixar type. It is essentially a doco of a former soldier's attempts to remember what happened when he servied in the Israeli Defence Force during the Lebanon War. The animated imagery, similar to the rotoscope of A Scanner Darkly, is superb and I found the music was excellent also. A terrible story well told.

Fairly typical NYC family cop drama with so many holes in it. I mean just the forensic holes alone are enough to make you wonder why the don't consult experts when making these movies. For example, the execution of a criminal and framing of Ed Norton's character would easily be solved via gunshot residue testing of the hands of Norton and his colleagues. Anyway... Nothing particularly ground-breaking about this.

This is not an easy movie to watch. While the skill of the cast cannot be questioned, they were so good in their roles as frustrating and problematic teens that I didn't care for them and didn't like them. This had an impact on my enjoyment of the film. It's well put together, but not that enjoyable.

This is not a movie for those that like traditional Hollywood fare. It is a bleak and depressing depiction of the struggles many indigenous Australians face and perhaps an indictment on the lack of apparent support available. It doesn't white-bash or take sides. I think it would be important for all Australians to see this - especially ahead of that Baz Luhrman version of outback Australia. The young actors are tremendous and the lack of dialogue reinforces the difficulty they have in communicating with each other and the world at large. 4 and a half stars.

Lots of fun for what I think is probably not a very well known animated feature. Plenty in here for kids and adults alike, with a good message and pmety of laughs and action. The hamster really does steal the show, but we also enjoyed Bolt getting taught how to be a proper dog. Good fun.

Found the English accents a bit disconcerting to start with but they added to the innocence of the two leads, who are just superb. It doesn't matter how many Nazi/Holocaust movies you see, they never fail to move you with the abhorrent attitudes of the Nazis and the quiet dignity of their prisoners. A beautifully shot film that ends with a tragic sense of irony.

He's Shaun the Sheep, he's Shaun the Sheep, he even knocks about with those that cannot bleat... We love Shaun the sheep. It is suitable for all ages and has laughs aplenty. Great little 6 minute episodes of the trials and adventures of Shaun and the farmer and his dog. Hilarious.

I must admit I didn't see the whole movie, probably missed a middle 20-30mins, but my partner said it was very much a chick-flick and found Jennifer Connolly as annoying as everyone else has said. Havign said that, she said it was easy to switch off and enjoy the movie. Excellent cast, which I assume was gathered by Drew Barrymore in her capacity as Executive Producer.

It was meandering along and I had an inkling of where it was going, but the realisation had quite an impact on me. Ann Hathaway is a bit soft to start with, but her compassion and grief are very well presented. Patrick Wilson is a reliable performer and the remainder of the supporting cast is very good. 3 and half stars.

The build up to the World Cup is quite good, in that it follows Mandela's rise to presidency and his initial time in power. However, the movie really lost our interest for the last 20 minutes or so as it focussed on the final game. There was no real excitement or tension, even in such a close game, and I think Clint really missed the mark with the on-field action. Freeman was born to play Mandela and does a fine job and Daomn makes a good Springbok captain. 2 and a half stars.

Very much a kid's movie, nothing in this for anyone over 8. I thought the over-the-top Disney music was really domineering and just detracted from the film. Not sure why Don Cheadle was in this, wasn't Jim Belushi available?

Fairly typical of the whole vampire/werewolf genre (excluding Twilight of course), but throw in a couple of decent actors such as Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy, and the quality of the movie lifts. I can't believe this is the same Michael Sheen I saw in Frost/Nixon and Love Actually, but he just shows how good he is in another genre. Bloody and dark but with a reasonable story, it keep us interested for the relatively short screen time of around 82mins.

While the audio in this is low standard and shows the film's age, the vision and directing seems way ahead of it's time. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. I got it out because I do a bit of long distance running and had heard the Iron Maiden song of the same name. It is probably more for film buffs of that era.

I foud this movie pretty slow moving and wasn't going to stick with it, but did. Those with the patience to do so will find some reward at the end, as I did. I actually got to the poin that I wanted to know what happened to the characters and started to like them, despite their failry unlikable qualities. Good performances.

Certainly not the feel good film of the year. Depressing, confronting at times but overall, an amazing acting performance. There is so little dialogue, the extended scene of Bobby talking with the priest is fantastic and comes just at the right time.

Saw this on the big screen but happily watched it again on DVD. Just love it. The story gets a bit Lion King, but the laughs come thick and fast, especially from the no-nonsense penguins and their higher primate helpers with opposable thumbs. I think there are more laughs than many of the Pixar films in this. Casting is great and the animations is first class.
(Not to be missed!) - review by Andrew
Not much happens in this. I can see why it went straight to DVD. Just when I thought things might start happening, well they stopped, and there is way too much time taken between action and suspense. It kind of entertained us though (how can shots of Megan Fox unzipping her top fail to?) so we gave it 2 stars.

Very typical Tim Burton. It's a visual feast but we found it a bit dark. I think Wonderland is a bit more colourful. Really liked Helena Bonham Carter as the melon-headed red queen and the lead Aussie girl is good. Not sure why Johnny Depp threw a Scottish accent in every now and then and the whole futterwacken thing was B grade. So the production values are great and some of the scenes quite interesting and funny, but it ends up becoming a final battle scene, which I found entirely unoriginal and not my vision of Alice at all.

The first 20 minutes tell you a lot about a movie, and I was wondering if I was going to get any laughs out of this. I think I got one or two. That's pretty disappointing for a comedy. Simon Pegg is at a risk of playing the same character in every one of his films. I enjoyed his previous work, but he was just too unlikeable in this one. Jeff Bridges channels David Carridine and seems to enjoy himself, but if you miss this, you're only missing Megan Fox walking through a swimming pool in a clingy dress.

A very good political thriller. I didn't think Ben Affleck was great in his role, but the rest of the cast is quite good. Didn't Rusty beef up for this role? But it suits the character and he plays it really well. Supported ably by the gorgeous Amy Adams, and the equally gorgeous Helen Mirren as his editor. Fast paced and intriguing.

Really enjoyed the style of animation used - a refreshing change from digital cartoons. Clooney is perfect as Mr Fox and enjoyed picking up some of the other familiar voices. There is so much going on in this film, lots to look at and take in. Some very funny sequences and lines as well. Very enjoyable.

Set piece after set piece of tension filled build up and action. Just superb. I can't believe this film was made on a shoestring budget, it sure doesn't show. Having seen Avatar in 3D on the IMAX screen, I am still happy to say that The Hurt Locker was a worthy best picture winner. Amazingly real, well crafted and acted. Don't miss. Oh, and Mark N - you say that there is nothing fascinating about defusing bombs in a war zone. Are you fair dinkum? Love to know what job is fascinating...

Midday melodrama at its best (or worst). Pretty average, but expected fare from Gere and Lane. A lot of cringeworthy moments, but it will probably please its target audience.

4 stars for the acting alone. None of the actors miss a beat in this quality film, not even an unrecognisable Mariah Carey. The lead role and her vicious mother are just superb. It sadly shows the cycle of despair and poverty that keeps people down.

At least this film is a bit original in its appoach. Half-doco, half-teen drama, it has some really interesting insights. Some, however, feel slightly staged, as you just can't imagine the kids behaving that way with the camera rolling. You can see the pressure on some of the kids, especially from their parents (which the parents don't even realise they are doing), and it is pleasing to see them ultimately succeed.

Helen Hunt looks every bit of her 46 years in this. Good to see she hasn't succumbed to Hollywood's desire for surgey, but she looks quite drawn in this. Colin Firth is his usual impressive self and Bette Midler provides good support. Matthew Broderick is a sap - I don't think I've liked him in anything. Not an uplifting movie by any means, sort of real, but a bit of a midday telemovie for me.

Went into this with very low expectations, and it started off as if it was going to meet them, but then, lo and behold, it dispensed with most of the usual cliches and actually entertained us. Switch off your brain and enjoy.

Worth watching purely for Jack Nicholson. Probably ahead of its time with its camera work and directing. Shelley Duvall is not great, but Danny Lloyd as the boy is. Didn't do much work after this either and is now a Professor of Biology. Go figure. Digital remastering is first class.

Easily one of the worst films ever seen. We have watched 3 a week for over 2 years, and this is the first time we have given up on a film before the end. To start with, why use actors in their 20's to play 15 year olds? It just looks wrong. Gemma Ward was a better actor than the lead male who was just woeful. It tries to capture iconic Australian images like the Hills hoist, the lawn sprinkler and the Dunlop KT26, but they are cliches more than icon in this. Oh and by the way, nothing actually happens. Lower than B grade - amateur stuff from all involved, including Toni Collette. Anyone else sick of her playing a dowdy housewife?

Faulty disc - I will review when I get the replacement!

Very good performance by Kristin Scott Thomas. A fairly depressing film, and you have to wonder why she kept it a secret for so long, but she portrays her guilt and grief very well.

This was okay but not a lot seemed to happen. Guy Pearce does a fine job as Harry Houdini and Catherine Zeta-Jones is okay, but there isn't a great deal of chemistry or even sense to this film.

I should've read your reviews before getting this out, because it is woeful. The story is so full of holes, I mean even the basic premise that the forensic psychologist got the crook convicted is just so absurd. Al Pacino must have owed this director a favour, but even his performance is terrible. The FBI agent is the worst on-screen potrayal of a law enforcement officer I have ever seen. Terrible acting, cheesy, pathetic, blerk. Avoid!

Absolutely loved this - the funniest and saddest movie we have seen for some time. Loved the Australian feel to it and the level of detail that Adam Elliot puts in is just amazing. A great example of Australian ingenuity, humour and story-telling, which makes it a must see!

I was really looking forward to this but was ultimately disappointed overall. It starts out promising enough, but there is a 30min section in the middle of the film where there are not enough laughs and even less action. Once they get to Hollywood though, things lift again, and the last 20-30mins is terrific. Great cameo.

The first 40 mins are great - funny, adult humour. But then (as many of the other reviews here have also noted) the romance creeps in and the laughs dry up. There are still a couple of good laughs in the latter parts, but they are few and far between. Really enjoyed the first 40mins though, so I give it a maybe.

Superb! Clooney at his absolute best. This is a movie for grown-ups, and not because it is smutty or crude, but simply because it is a class above so many of the other films we have seen. Great sotry, great acting. I sat through this with a smile on my face.

As far as comedies go, this is much better than most. Basic story but plenty of laughs. Why is that so hard to do? The characters in this really add to the humour levels, and I agree with many of the reviewers here that you would pick up more on a second viewing. I rate it somewhere between 3.5 stars and 4!

Disappointing. Basically a re-hash of the first without the surprises. It seems the film-makers tried to fit too much in, and didn't bother with a decent story. Hank Azaria camps it up (for unknown reasons) as the Egyptian demi-god and gives some laughs, but it is otherwise short on. Maybe for kids only.

We have read the book and found this to be quite a faithful adaptation. It is not an easy movie to watch though, with many scenes disturbing and confronting in equal measure. Strong performance from Soarise Ronan and a good effort from Mark Wahlberg. Found Rachel Weisz was under-utilised and Susan Sarandon a bit over the top. An original story beautifully shot. Stanley Tucci is incredibly creepy as Mr Harvey and could not believe this was the same man that was so likeable as Julia's husband in "Julie and Julia".

A really well made foreign-film. I didn't know this was part of a trilogy, and this episode really goes into some detail and length showing the upbringing and development of Genghis Khan, or Temudgin as he is known in the film. He has some admirable qualities and his spirituality is strong and never beaten. I would have liked to have seen more of Genghis Khan once he was conquering half the world, but that must be in the next instalment. Well shot and directed.

One of the greatest films I have seen - left us shaking. Watch with someone and imagine the fear and bravery of these heroes.

Superb - an amazing story and a star turn by Don Cheadle.
