The first film he ever saw in cinemas was Back to the Future … from the comfort of his mother’s womb. Having fallen in love with movies in utero, post-birth Simon has since gone on to devour as many films as he can get his hands on, particularly those of his favourite filmmakers: Dario Argento, Akira Kurosawa, Paul Thomas Anderson, Park Chan-wook, The Coen Brothers, Woody Allen, Stanley Kubrick, Sergio Leone, and predictably, anything from Pixar.
He graduated from the Curtin University of Technology with Honours. His thesis examined the nature of revenge within Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy. Aside from his examiners, the only person to read it is his girlfriend. She thinks it’s pretty good.
Simon is also a member of the Film Critics Circle of Australia, the Australian Film Critics Association and the Online Film Critics Society, whether they like it or not.
