Mark Wahlberg leads the cast of Contraband, a fast-paced thriller about a man trying to stay out of a world he worked so hard to leave behind and the family he’ll do anything to protect. Set in New Orleans, the film explores the cutthroat underground world of international smuggling — full of desperate criminals and corrupt officials, high-stakes and big payoffs—where loyalty rarely exists and death is one wrong turn away. Chris Farraday (Wahlberg) long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), Chris is forced back into doing what he does best — running contraband — to settle Andy’s debt. Chris is a legendary smuggler and quickly assembles a crew with the help of his best friend, Sebastian (Ben Foster), for one final run to Panama and back, hoping to return with millions in counterfeit bills. Things quickly fall apart and with only hours to reach the cash, Chris must use his rusty skills to successfully navigate a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target.

After watching this for 5 minutes I realised I had seen this movie before, 5 minutes later I realised I have this movie in my own collection......DUH ! Never the less still very enjoyable with high action and suspense

It took a while to get going...but Wahlberg always produces the goods. Kate Beckinsale would have to be once of the best looking actresses in the industry. A good movie.

Easy to watch, but there were some parts that were easy to see what was coming. That said, Giovanni Ribisi is awesome and Malk Walberg is also pretty believable. Makes you think about the amount of this sort of stuff that must go on over there though.

Don't be put off by some bad reviews. It is your typical drug runner / drug lord / bad guy / action type movie. If you are into that style movie - get it. You won't be disappointed, plenty of action. If you want to pick the plot to bits with the implausible or in some cases impossible scenes, then don't get it. Enjoy it for what it is... it is a movie... not a documentary! We thought it was very good.

Yawn, Actors are just going through their lines. Typical plot of big brother getting little annoying brother out of trouble.
Drug recovery is also totally unbelieveable.

Promises to be a great action flick with cool twist, based on smuggling in New Orleans. Does not deliver. Lame, predictable and uninteresting plot. Plus role of wife is to stay home, get repeatedly beaten up while hubby (Wahlburg) does his great adventure hero thing. Sick of action films with non-existent roles for women...c'mon - give us something for the chicks!!

Wahlberg plays a former drug smuggle trying to go straight but is forced back into the lifestyle to save a relative. The acting is surprisingly good and Ben Foster is outstanding (similar to his role in 'The Mechanic'. Action all the way through. I never knew there were so many hiding places for drugs on board a ship. The ending is different, as Foster's character gets his just deserts. The underlying theme with the rare modern art painting is funny - it does look like a painter's drop sheet !! I would recommend this but definitely not for children, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this movie. It took a different side of the story that is usually never depicted in these kind of movies and I thought it was brilliant. As far as I am concerned this is a must see movie and well worth watching.

Kinda fell asleep towards the end. Other than that it was OK, a little different to what I was expecting. Mark Wahlberg isn't a great actor.

Marky mark had found a great screenplay from Icelandic and dutch sources and given it a great new look around the Panama Canal.... gritty and violent but necessary for the story

It must've all made sense to the script writers and they deserve credit for the convoluted plot. However, the ordinary viewer spends most of the time lost in a dark and confusing world. The most interesting part of the film is the ship coming in to Panama, presumably shot on location. It's a fascinating-looking place, albeit the movie's action is in the slums, much like those often seen in films set in Mexico.
