a very watchable flick -- 3 1/2 stars I watched the original language version, definitely better than English dubbed. technically, there is nothing wrong with it, and if you'd never appreciated the original show you might enjoy this anyway. I'd say it's almost as good as Tarantino's Kill Bill 1. however, in all honestly, it's nowhere near as good as the original TV series (or the many, many Ichi discs I have seen, at least) -- the acting in this is mostly flat, the character development is a mess (focusing much more on secondary parts than leads), the flow of the script is stilted and has a few scenes that really drag on (not in any spiritually contemplative Japanese way), the overwrought SFX push it more into the teen slasher genre than samurai, and the music is pretty corny. the Stripes cameos add a little humour to the story, but always seem out of place and somehow parody the 70s series. this is most notable in the finalé -- their music accompanies a tapdancing troupé of the entire cast, broadway-style (NB: Zatoichi is set in the Edo period 17-19thC, while tap groups date from the early 20thC).

Something a little bit different. Some nice performances from the co-stars. The dance routine is brilliant. Thoroughly entertaining even with all the gore.

A new addition to the long line of 'Blind Samurai' series of cult movies. Very enjoyable and strangely not as predictable as a western influence film would be. It challenges a lot of ideas that the west would have off Samurai Age of Japan. That of honour, sexality and pride.

It's different from the American style movies. We had lots of fun watching it, it's got a good story line and has little extra quirky bits in it. Was good fun.

This movie is enjoyable if you like those cheesy samurai flicks (and I do!). There is a lot of blood and violence, so its not for the squeamish, but actually it is not too "gory" so it is okay. And even in the dubbed english version, the humour and the jokes are still there so you always get a laugh!! My boyfriend enjoyed this one too - its a great film!

The blind swordsmen although graphic in detail brings forth the genre of the old TV series of the Samurai. Entertaining to watch and as the movies Japanese storyline is translated into English it gives this film an element of humour with dubbed voices and clever one liner puns. Worth watching especially if you are a fan of action and from the era brought up on the Samurai.
