Victoria and Albert were both well cast, but the production was extremely bitty with sudden changes of location, so much so that sub-titles were needed to keep the audience informed as to where we were. There were far too many over the shoulder shots and minutes of "talking heads." It was difficult to observe the apparently elaborate costuming when all we saw was head and shoulders. Lord Melbourne looked very pretty but showed none of the cunning slyness usually associated with ambitious politicians. A good story badly told.

In a word, sumptuous! While we thought Emily Blunt was a bit too good looking as the young Victoria, that didn't detract from our viewing pleasure an dprobably added to it. Fabulous locations, costumes and production. Don't miss if you love your period/costume dramas.

Totally loved this movie - even as a republican. The characters are interesting, it is a great snapshot of a particular time in history and it is so very, very beautiful. It is definitely worth watching as a film that influenced fashion for the year also. Lots of boys with Prince Albert haircuts and mo's around these days!

Absolutely glorious. Suprisingly solid performances from all major players. Paul Bettany is unrecognisable as Lord Melbourne (yes, who "Melbourne" is named after). These actors communicate more with looks and gestures than many others and it is wonderful watching Victoria

Love these monarch period movies. Not a great substance (other than a love story ) to work with but all the same well done. We are shown how various groups and countries are so manipulative, calculating and scheming in their endeavors to control the young Queen. You are given an insight into the arrogant, pompous aristocrats and parliamentarians concern for their self importance and little for the people they serve. Despite all these barriers a strong love evolves between Victoria and Albert. He refuses to be a puppet to his wife or her advisors, they were together for 20 years and he encouraged the monarch to help and educate the poor. I thought it was hilarious that he most powerful woman in the world could not get Buckingham palace heated or the windows cleaned; all because of a demarcation dispute between the household servants!! The squalor of money spent on servants in that period is amazing. Costumes and acting excellent. Recommended for a good nights entertainment. 3 +

The political intrigue going on around the young Victoria is difficult to understand-the exposition is rushed. I wish I had known more of the politics of the time before viewing this. Should have boned up. Having said that, I did enjoy this movie. Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend were terrific as Vicki and Albert. The production values were tremendous-deserved the Oscar for Best Costumes. Recommended for you Royalists who know a bit of the historical background. Three and a half stars.

This is a good film, especially if you like history. The costumes are lovely and the actors portray their characters well. Sarah Ferguson (Duchess of York) is producer, and when she was married to Prince Andrew she became fascinated with Queen Victoria and had access to many historical documents and photos. So this film is an accurate depiction of Queen Victorias young days.

Both my partner and I enjoyed this movie ( I loved it), so it can appeal to both sexes. A luscious, aesthetically beautiful film with outstanding acting from Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend. They managed to display the chemistry, conflict and love between Albert and Victoria and were well cast for the roles. The historical and political aspects of the film contributed to making it intelligent and engrossing and by no means a costume chic flick.

Political intrigues, pageantry and bitchiness about sums it up. Much of the time, little of interest actually happens. The elaborate costumes and pomp just make it seem like it's busy. The highlight of the movie is the depiction of Victoria finding her inner strength and coming to understand love and her people. For that alone the movie is worth seeing.
