I really enjoyed this movie it was well worth the watch.
Beautiful portrayal of the young Queen Victoria, tastefully done and entertaining to the end.
Looks like a great movie, with lots of history.
Its history and a beautful love story.
I really enjoyed this movie.
Great costumes and cinematography. Enjoyable enough without being outstanding.
Beautifully filmed / rich sets & costuming / good performances.
was entertaining but not the best movie I have seen
Educational and very well done.
Love this movie, didn't want it to end. Emily Blunt is delightful.
Exellant movie. I learnt more about Victoria.
Victoria and Albert were both well cast, but the production was extremely bitty with sudden changes of location, so much so that sub-titles were needed to keep the audience informed as to where we were. There were far too many over the shoulder shots and minutes of "talking heads." It was difficult to observe the apparently elaborate costuming when all we saw was head and shoulders. Lord Melbourne looked very pretty but showed none of the cunning slyness usually associated with ambitious politicians. A good story badly told.
Loved it Just a beautiful story and It is part of history
Powerful historical drama with great acting performances. Story provides interesting insight into the lives and expectations of royalty and political characters of the time. We enjoyed DVD so much we watched it a second time.
Costuming is superb, and the story being told is romantic
Enjoyable - well acted. A gentle sort of movie.
So romantic, beautiful music, does a lot for the Royals.
Really enjoyed it...was in the mood for a nice romance!
A really good movie with no swearing or violence
Ok movie good love story, but had seen it before.
I enjoyed this film immensely. Emily Blunt was an excellent Victoria. Beautifully shot.
Beautiful film, wonderful story, great acting, lovely filming - superb
Unable to review this, as it did not ever arrive. My account says that I returned it on 7/7/2011....not possible. I have put it in the queue once more as I really wanted to see this. Could you rectify this please? Thank you.
The copy of The Young Victoria that came to us was faulty and we could not watch all of it, even though I tried it on two different players. The bits we saw were good!
In a word, sumptuous! While we thought Emily Blunt was a bit too good looking as the young Victoria, that didn't detract from our viewing pleasure an dprobably added to it. Fabulous locations, costumes and production. Don't miss if you love your period/costume dramas.
Excellent production. Nice acting and great costumes. OK the film isn't going to change your life but it is worth a view.
Brilliant acting, thouroughly enjoyed and didn't want it to end. Absolute true love story that was and still remains a beautiful part of our history.
I was impressed by the way the movie was made. The depiction was excellent in my view.
Totally loved this movie - even as a republican. The characters are interesting, it is a great snapshot of a particular time in history and it is so very, very beautiful. It is definitely worth watching as a film that influenced fashion for the year also. Lots of boys with Prince Albert haircuts and mo's around these days!
Simply a great watch! Good acting great period costumes and settings and outstanding direction...what more can one say other than this is great Sunday arvo viewing,,,,
I enjoy these types of movies. Historically interesting as well as beautiful people and settings.
what a superb film well acted finely scripted joy to watch if you like an historical period piece dont miss this
I loved this movie. Not at all what i expected.
excellent movie - but the disk have scratches
A good film. The dialogue was minimal about historical events yet informative. I liked that most of the story was set over a year and I liked the love scene as it was tasteful. The actors were believable.
Excellent acting and interesting story.
Wouldn't bother unless you're into English history. Slow moving and therefore boring.
Well acted, superb script capturing the machinations of the PMs vs Royalty - Jim Broadbent excellent as William as was Emily Blunt as Victoria - although I did miss Edward Fox - he's usually in this sort of thing!!
This was excellent viewing for all- and not just for the period film enthusiasts. Not for action lovers but plenty of plotting and scheming, and the love aspect that kept my interest throughout. Very interesting historical film - I learned something. Emily Blunt was perfect. 4.5 stars
Always enjoyed something about royal history. How close to the truth? Good enough to be entertained decently.
I was very moved by this movie, knowing that it is rare insight into the life of a royal. An enduring love story, very well done if you like historical pieces
Well-produced and acted movie about Queen Victoria's early life, although it loses coherence towards the end. I found the atmosphere
Wow; I loved this movie. The grandur of it all - and I actually got goose bumps with the romance of Victoria
I do like a good old fashioned, big skirted romance and this didn't disappoint. Really enjoyed this movie and also learnt a bit of history too - excellent!
Absolutely glorious. Suprisingly solid performances from all major players. Paul Bettany is unrecognisable as Lord Melbourne (yes, who "Melbourne" is named after). These actors communicate more with looks and gestures than many others and it is wonderful watching Victoria
Fantastic movie that freshens your views of royalty and what they must endure
Love this movie. Emily Blunt is wonderful. The costumes and set designs are brilliant.
Love these monarch period movies. Not a great substance (other than a love story ) to work with but all the same well done. We are shown how various groups and countries are so manipulative, calculating and scheming in their endeavors to control the young Queen. You are given an insight into the arrogant, pompous aristocrats and parliamentarians concern for their self importance and little for the people they serve. Despite all these barriers a strong love evolves between Victoria and Albert. He refuses to be a puppet to his wife or her advisors, they were together for 20 years and he encouraged the monarch to help and educate the poor. I thought it was hilarious that he most powerful woman in the world could not get Buckingham palace heated or the windows cleaned; all because of a demarcation dispute between the household servants!! The squalor of money spent on servants in that period is amazing. Costumes and acting excellent. Recommended for a good nights entertainment. 3 +
If you have an interest in history and the machinations of royalty, plus fabulous settings, costumes, and acting, then this is superb. If they could continue the story into her later life, it would be even better.
sort of interesting, little slow going and storyline wasn't quite strong enough to last the 1-2 hours. won't be rushing out to buy a copy for my permanent collection.
Loved this movie, kept me engrossed the whole way through, amazing costumes and scenery, done very well, actors were fantastic, great chick flick. Interesting to watch some history.
Pleasantly surprised at this movie. Was expecting a bit of a 'bodice ripper' but no. A very entertaining, beautifully photographed film. Should have known Julian Fellowes woud be involved!
Another good period film about Queen Victoria as a cossetted young girl. I thought it could have ended better as it was a bit flat.
Dont bother. As boring as watching grass grow
Always thought she was the ugly stuck up Queen, even if not exactly true made me lijke her so much more go Victoria.
Excellent movie and acting by all involved. I think I saw Princess Beatrice in the procession to the young Victoria's crowning. I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in english history. Great to see inside some of the houses.
This is a great film - loved the costumes, characters and setting. It was made even better knowing the story was based on something that really happened!
The political intrigue going on around the young Victoria is difficult to understand-the exposition is rushed. I wish I had known more of the politics of the time before viewing this. Should have boned up. Having said that, I did enjoy this movie. Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend were terrific as Vicki and Albert. The production values were tremendous-deserved the Oscar for Best Costumes. Recommended for you Royalists who know a bit of the historical background. Three and a half stars.
Beautiful, where politics
This movies gives a lovely insight into the early years of the queen, her challenges, triumphs and love for her husband. Good entertainment.
Beautiful movie, well made, gorgeous costumes, magnificent scenery, brillantly played by the two leads Victoria
Lovely movie, costumes, scenery etc. etc. are great. Nice to watch a movie that is not offensive. The cast was well selected. Recommend it to people who love period dramas
A nice way to kill a few hours on the weekend
very good film, enjoyed it very much
This is a good film, especially if you like history. The costumes are lovely and the actors portray their characters well. Sarah Ferguson (Duchess of York) is producer, and when she was married to Prince Andrew she became fascinated with Queen Victoria and had access to many historical documents and photos. So this film is an accurate depiction of Queen Victorias young days.
A really well made film with an outstanding performance by Emily Blunt as Queen Victoria. Thoroughly enjoyed this!!!
I was a good movie, a bit slow, great costuming and scenery.
An enjoyable adaption Showing Victoria's growing
inclination for dependence after her cossetted
childhood. It also portrays her wilingness to listen to
older
Enjoyable; sumptuous photography, thin story line.
Both my partner and I enjoyed this movie ( I loved it), so it can appeal to both sexes. A luscious, aesthetically beautiful film with outstanding acting from Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend. They managed to display the chemistry, conflict and love between Albert and Victoria and were well cast for the roles. The historical and political aspects of the film contributed to making it intelligent and engrossing and by no means a costume chic flick.
Political intrigues, pageantry and bitchiness about sums it up. Much of the time, little of interest actually happens. The elaborate costumes and pomp just make it seem like it's busy. The highlight of the movie is the depiction of Victoria finding her inner strength and coming to understand love and her people. For that alone the movie is worth seeing.
A really lovely movie. Victoria and Albert were both played to perfection.
Loved it! Emily Blunt did a fabulous job with this. The outfits, the palaces. Very good.
