Mild sexual references, nudity and coarse language

Director: Philippe Le Guay
Actors: Fabrice Luchini, Sandrine Kiberlain, Natalie Verbeke, Carmen Maura, Lola Duenas, Berta Ojea, Nuria Solé, Concha Galán

It’s Paris, 1962. The marvellous Fabrice Luchini (Potiche) stars as wealthy stockbroker Jean-Louis Jouvert, who lives a staid bourgeois existence with his perfectly-presented socialite wife (Sandrine Kiberlain, Mademoiselle Chambon). But when the family's maid abandons them, into the residence comes Maria, who is young, hardworking and - quelle horreur! - Spanish.

Remarkably, it does not take long for the entire building to become enchanted with the new arrival; Maria rallies the friendships of the other servants on the sixth floor (played with warmth and vitality by two of Pedro Almodovar's favourite senoritas, Carmen Maura and Lola Duenas), and soon, Jean-Louis is swept up into the wild and fun-loving cross-cultural environment of the women on the 6th floor, much to the horror of his conservative wife, colleagues and friends.

A feel-good movie without sentimentality that often accompanies comedy/reality genre. Directed by Philippe Le Guay, the film never evades issues no matter how improbable they may be. If anything the story’s premise is fanciful but it’s done with style and conviction. ‘Women on the Sixth Floor’ is quintessentially European. Its plot is unconventional and deals surprisingly but honestly with many issues, including infidelity.

I loved the way this movie developed, slowly revealing the characters and taking its time showing what era it was set in. Once you knew (hint: Franco in power in Spain) then I could notice the perfect details in fashion in the house and clothing. The slow pace in characters made the lovestory line slightly more believable. A very enjoyable movie, I wanted to see more.

This movie was a lot better than we expected. It was one of those feel good movies where the lower class people are so much happier and alive than the snooty upper class. Liked the character of the Male lead who turns out to have a heart after all.

Quite a pleasant film but only for those with rose coloured glasses. Stepped over the reality to fantasy line on more than a few occasions. But if you are willing to forgive it that, then it was enjoyable. Didn't think it was slow, but think that is an under 30's thing!

An interesting and delightful movie. Bit slow at times like others have said but still enjoyable. Didn't even mid the sub titles. Don't know how come I asked for it but pleased I did. Was ready to give up even before I started to watch it and again pleased I didn't.

An easy to watch pleasant romp through 60's France. It's a pretty improbable story but the way it is woven you can forgive that and just enjoy it for what it is. You would need a heart of steel not to enjoy this little charmer.

Didn't really make sense. Why break up a family because you're bored? I guess that's typically French but it felt as if the plot was a last minute idea, a love story in case the movie wasn't interesting enough.

Loved this movie! It is foreign but it didn't spoil the pleasure of this charming movie. Makes one appreciate the little things and what you have. I suppose it is a bit of a chick flick but don't be put off it is just lovely.

Excellent movie. Not disappointing in the least. So what that it was subtitled - that didnt take away from the excellent script and the movie's subtleties. Very well done - one that I will certainly watch again

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie from the very start to end. I would agree it ends suddenly but I didn't feel it had gone long enough. could have watched some more. Brilliant movie with more going on than it appears. would watch it again.

An intelligent study of power and control. Very French. But let down by a very conventional ending. What was great was that the extras included interviews with actors who were not only articulate but well educated. How many US actors can make philosophicals allusions?

Just when the movie gets interesting, it ends. But by then it's gone on for more than long enough. Many scenes don't add much to the story, which in any case is rather simplistic and unlikely. It's generally inoffensive, mildly humorous and pleasant enough, but not anything special.
