This is a well acted movie that is worth watching even though it is a bit gory in some parts!
I was quite impressed, thought it was well constructed, and the violence, though gruesome. was left to the imagination. That is best. Great performance by John Jarratt.
Excellent horror flick, though I found it more thriller than horror. For an Aussie movie it was one of the best I have seen for a while...
Was led to beleive this was terrifying and true - not true, more life very scarey in parts and inspired by truth
A truly disturbing and intense horror film. Definitely one of the better ones in this age of less great horror movies. This one is a must see for genre fans.
You are led to believe at the beginning of the movie that it was based on a true story, so it was really disappointing at the end to realize that most of it must have been invented because there were no witnesses. So if I'd watched it with this understanding would have been better I'm sure. Not that I want it to be true, just felt a bit miffed that the movie writers tricked me like that! I was riveted though and did enjoy the story.
I have lived in the bush, and yeah these tourists made some basic mistakes - not enough water, no spare parts, no basic knowledge of engines..... no gun! You meet some weirdo's in the bush and I got no doubt some these things are happening there. Excellent acting... everything is exactly what a person in that situation would do.
For me not really scary. Hmmm, but yeah I was calling "watch out" and "hurry up" Very good suspense!
Every tourist should watch this before they go out bush... then prepare!
A truly awesome story based on fact. Three people visit the Wolf Creek meteor crater but their car breaks down. They are assisted by a "helpful" local.
A worrying story of things that may have gone on in Central Australia; the acting was superb, the plot frightening and the outcome horrifying. Was a riveting movie that evoked strong emotions from us.
Do not understand all the hype about this film. Not very suspenseful or clever. Not thrilling. Quite graphic. No black humour (unlike 'The Loved Ones') and not enough suspense to really freak you out.
Not an easy film to watch. But a must for fans of horror. This one sticks with you for a while. Yes it takes a while to unfold but that makes the assault on the viewer that much more powerful when it hits.
My husband could watch it all the way through, but it was too scarey for me.
a lot of violence, but a good story, kept you on the edge of your seat.
Stupid film with holes you could drive a truck through. Mental note, when you have a psychopath who is trying to kill you at your mercy, don't show mercy, especially in movie land.
Great Aussie film! John Jarret was brilliant playing a villain (never see that one coming) but it was very slow paced and had a bad ending. Not as scary as I thought.
For horror this is clearly one of Australia's best efforts and proves us folkes down under can make classy films up there with the rest of the world. Despite being stated that is based on a true story thats a case of yes and no as it takes facts from the Ivan Milat murders and also the Peter Falcono case in the NT. Both crimes had elements lifted from both for the film but mostly this is fiction as the villian is clearly a cattleman and goes againt both cases. 3 backpackers travel to a crator but when they brake down they are offered a tow by a friendly cattleman who turns out to be a serial killer that loves to torture his victims. Brillant acting by all esp John Jarret who's look wouldnt look out of place in any country town and he suits Akubra and R.M Williams naturally ala Mac clouds daughters of which he starred in before. He even gets to parody Crocodile Dundee and does a decent job of Hogans line so even when evil he shows respect. And he enjoys stealing the show. The direction starts off slowly and builds suspense and a bleak atmosphere of which inland Australia really is even without the horror. The violence is quite realistic and very brutal as this guy is sadistic and there's quite a bit of blood and gore plus some nasty torture for those like myself enjoy these kinds of films. My only very small gripes are very little is explained about Taylor despite photos of his past life and some loose ends are never explained but this adds to the mystery and might be explained a bit more in the sequel of which is in the works. But those who work the land might be offended by Jarrets character as cattlemen and ladies are usually the most friendly and down to folk on earth down under and mostly wouldnt act like he did but apart from these forgivable faults its a brillant film and a step in the right direction for Australian film. Horror fans esp those who enjoyed Hostel shall enjoy this.
This movie played on my mind for days after watching it. I found it terrifying and probably found some of the parts unnecessary. Based on a true story - but no one knows what happened - so, everything apart from the beginning and very ending is remotely true????? I would hate to think that it all really happened. Worth watching if you like Australian movies and thrillers. I wouldn't say I enjoyed the movie, but it was an interesting movie that I would not watch again. Overseas visitors must not watch if planning an Aussie holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
absolutely terrifying without being unnecessarily gory - great aussie horror
A chilling watch that leaves you thinking about the movie days after watching it. As it is based on a true story, it is worth seeing this movie.
good Aussie movie. not as scary as l thought it will be
A little gory in a couple of bits, but I agree that it wasn't as scary as it was made out to be. I think the scary part was thinking about how they must have felt at the time, not the actual movie. Still, I can't say I'll be going there any time soon!
A gruesome and gut wrenching film, but partly because I watched it thinking it was true!
Overall I am left disappointed. Because now I know it is fiction, I'm left wondering if I really needed to see this sort of terror?
I appreciated the talent put into making this film but unfortunately it simply descends into another horror movie. The cliche's seem even more unforgivable given the "realistic" vibe the movie attempts to portray.
Creepy and a bit violent, but not as much as I'd heard. It is very realistic in terms of making me never want to accept help from strangers if my car breaks down in the outback. But it is ruined by the ending which is illogical - how can it be based on a 'true story' but then clearly the makers made up all the details? (I heard it is based on the Ivan Milat's killings, but this can't be true since he was caught and the ending here suggests the police found nothing). More irritating is that one of the victims makes a series of unbelievable stupid mistakes when trying to escape that just made me roll my eyes. Ok, but not as ground-breaking as I'd heard.
Good movie. Would watch again. Keeps you in suspense with the twists and turns.
This has got to be the best 'slow burn' thriller around!! Beautifully paced first half that explodes into sheer terrifying climax. Keep a cushion handy if you plan to watch on your own!!
At times very scary 'slasher' movie which otherwise is pretty formulaic. Good performances by all, especially Jarret. Ending is adrupt and a bit of a stretch.
Just as thrilling on the small screen as when I saw it at the movies. John Jarret is frighting
Do not show the children. The only thing great about this movie is that the man had the guts to tell it and got off of the charges. It still makes my skin crawl.
Brilliant - suspensful, scarey, edge-of-seat stuff. Excellent acting, especially John Jarratt!! Spectacular scenery. Australian film making at its best - bring on more!
A gruesome murder that won't do much for our tourism industry but certainly very believable and therefore a good movie
Story intrguing but bad acting.Unfortunately, typical Australian drama.
Definately worth watching. Keeps you on the edge of the seat. As John Jarret says "A Winner!!"
WARNING: Don't watch this movie before going to bed! It is VERY scary because it is based on true events (Ivan Milat). It is the story of a sick, twisted, sadistic loner who used to hunt 4 legged animals before modern verman control was brought in, now he preys on 2 legged animals. Mick (John Jarratt) initially seems like a nice, helpful, Aussie outback character, to win over your confidence, BUT with an alterior motive. It goes to show you can't just trust anybody in this world or accept their help. He wasn't caught and is still out there, you have been warned! So there could be a "WOLF CREEK 2". I give this movie 5 stars for realism, scariness and horror.
Unsure of this one. Not bad for Australian
Just occurred to me that the meteor is a metaphor for the unexpected devestation that occurs.
Didn't think it lived up to all the hype. Was disturbing, granted, but found it under rated to what I had heard about it. Would certainly make people think twice about travelling in the outback by themselves though.
A yhoroughly engrossing film that unusually lives up to its reputation. John Jarrat is chillingly real as the nemesis of the 3 unsuspecting travellers. In some respects similar to the Kurt Russell movie 'Breakdown' this is a much bleaker more realistic film. Well worth owning.
extremely confronting riveting movie
Nauseating violence. We all hated it.
this is a good aussie film.l thought the actors played there parts well.yes it is brutal at times during the film.but there are plenty of other films just as brutal or worse.l dont think this film would do the tourist industry much good lolol.
Great australian movie. Brilliant storyline and edge of yr seat thriller
Worth watching if only to see John Jarret in such a different role!
Wolf Creek at first, seemed to go very slow. The pace suddenly changes into a quite shocking, thrilling and very credible conclusion.
As in reality, murderers like the character Mick Taylor, can get away with things like this. We know the ending in reality is not always a happy one.
This is a very convincing movie that will chill you to the spine.
We read and see news about serial killers in newspapers and on television with a certain amount of apathy. In Wolf Creek we have a ringside seat in the theatre of depravity. It's in your face and it happens all over the world all the time. The ultimate reality check.
very good quality movie, BUT very very edge of your seat scary....
John Jarrat plays the helpful stranger to a T. Who could know what evil lurks beneth? Travellers beware!
A great movie depicting outback Australia, 3 tourists get a lift with bushman Mick after he offers to fix their vehicle. Mick spikes the water and sets about torturing all 3, they all manage to escape until one is shot, the other found eventually and the third is still missing. Is it tue?, I hope not, but it certainly could and does happen occasionally, scary movie which will make the hairs on the back of your neck stick up.
very good movie. well made and acted. good story. ending a little up in the air though.
Absolutely terrifying. Sometimes difficult to watch, but if you can hack it, a great horror movie. Really gut-wrenching.
joanne lees meets the dead heart anyone?
Pack your bags and start hitchhiking. Adventure is never far away in this delightful story of outback hospitality.
Not as scary as everyone has made out. Still very good and definitely must see. What a laugh!
if you are thinking of travelling alone in outback W.A. and bush camping...don"t watch this film..terrorfying...but an excellent production
Well this movie is not bad, worth wathing
Too SCARY and can happen to anyone. Must see to be warned.
Very shocking, scary & terrifying. Couldn't watch all of it as it was too disturbing. Watch with caution.
John Jarratt was great. He played his role to perfection. The slow beginning only served to make the horrors that followed all the more sinister.
This movie was not what I anticipated at all, it was a little creepy. Well worth the R rating due to the graphic scenes in the movie. The movie could have been a little shorter, and a little less darker
This movie had an almost home movie realistic feel to it, right down to no visible make up. It had me cringing & turning away for a few of the scenes and kept me wondering right to the end just who the survivors were going to be. John Jarratt puts in an excellent performance, creating a uniquely Australian, individual, yet evil character. Worth watching just to see the scope of John's ability to immerse into such a different role.
Great Movie, not for the faint hearted or young children. I'll never be able to look at John Jarret again and not think of this role. He always seemed so likeable on his TV shows. Shows that even in a group you might not be safe in the outback, backpackers beware.
Unfortunately similar things have happened in real life.
Very well done, i'm glad i saw it! Although there are some fairly gruesome parts, it was all in context. John (ex-play school) plays the part of Mike VERY WELL!
I've watch this one and also wondered what all the hype was about, saying that this was a frightening horror movie is a false statement, I think Disney's Snow White had more horror in it that this one, and gore not much of that here (If you want that watch SAW). Jarratt's acting is good, but the rest of the cast is so so, well actually boring. Oh well another wasted hour and half.
more creepy than scary, John Jarrett is brillient.
Starts off a bit slow but hots up to an nail biting climax. John Jarrat was excellent as the creepy psycho. Normally I can Aussie movies but this one along with Saw and Saw2 stand out from the pack.
One of the better Aussie films I've seen of late and worth a watch especially if you like the genre. A fairly predictable storyline left my attention drifting in parts...
Was told by a friend it was a horro movie. Not really.
I loved this movie, action and horror and has our raw Aussie feel to the movie, must see if you're into horrors.
It was good, left a few question in our heads, wanted to see it when it first came out, 16 yr daughter thinks its scary, think because she knows J.Jarrett as Terry of Mc Daughters.
Shocking, scary, freaked me out and at the start what a soundtrack... Australia well done I am never accepting help from a stranger again.
Bloody scarry and makes you think.
A light hearted tear jerker that will tug on the heart strings of the whole family.
A great movie to watch just before your next country road trip with the kids.
Definitely worth seeing. A little gruesome but not nearly as scary as it was made out to be.
Scary movie but an unsatisfactory ending. Don't forget your shotgun when travelling in the outback!!!!!
Great Australian movie but a somewhat unsatisfactory ending.
The style is realism as opposed to gore-fest hollywood slasher so the violence, (though less than I anticipated) is brutal in parts and voyueristic in nature with the knowledge of the inevitable fate of one or more of the characters. Edge of your seat stuff at times. Definately impacting more than entertaining. Could have done without the corny post-script ending.
