A classic tale of forbidden love set against the rugged terrain of the west, White Feather features Robert Wagner in a star making turn as Josh Tanner, a man caught between the lure of his heart and the law of the land. Tasked with the resettlement of a co-operative Cheyenne tribe who have relinquished their valuable land to gold prospectors, Tanner is lead by Colonel Lindsay (John Lund) and assisted by tribesmen friends Little Dog (Jeffrey Hunter) and American Horse (Hugh O'Brian). Tanner tackles his job with conviction but is soon distracted by Little Dog's betrothed Appearing Day (Debra Paget). When an unlikely relationship develops into a dangerous love affair, the resettlement is placed in jeopardy when Tanner is delivered an arrow bound with a single white feather - the Cheyenne intend to wage war.

I am a bit partial to well done Westerns and a sucker for unconventional love affairs. This film is pretty old (a very young Robert Wagner), but I thought it holds up pretty well. Nice love story and good telling of the story behind getting the Indians off the prairies and onto the reservations. The actors are uniformly pretty good and the ending is not all roses, as not all Indians went quietly. If you like Western type films, I think you will enjoy it. You can even see a bit of inspiration for "Dances with Wolves" here....
