MEDIUM LEVEL VIOLENCE

Director: Brian G. Hutton
Actors: Clint Eastwood, Richard Burton, Michael Hordern, Donald Houston, Patrick Wymark, Mary Ure, Robert Beatty, William Squire, Brook Williams, Peter Barkworth

The mission is clear. Get in. Get the general. Get out. Commandos charged with freeing a U.S. general from an Alpine fortress should also be told to trust nothing - including the search-and-rescue orders just issued.

Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood go Where Eagles Dare in this twisty World War II thriller written by action master Alistair Maclean (The Guns Of Navarone, Ice Station Zebra) and directed by Brian G. Hutton (Kelly's Heroes). Known for fiery dramatic roles, Burton ventures into the realm of movie pyrotechnics with dynamic efficiency. And Eastwood's cool-fire presence heightens one searing action sequence after another. The film became Eastwood's then-largest hit and its studio's #1 moneymaker of the year.

Thoroughly enjoyed this film. An oldie but a goodie! Read the book years ago and the film captured the story brilliantly. The acting was superb. The tension and surprise was there right to the end.Add to the mix the beautiful scenery and action packed storyline. They don't make them like this any more.

This movie is a very slow movie. Takes ages for anything to happen. Should have been made a 90 minute movie, not a 2.5 hour one. It has major weaknesses. For example the real reason for the raid is not valid. Is the General that was captured a real General or a fake? Or the heroes shoot and kill heaps of enemy and yet do not get hit themselves? Also Mythbusters have shown that several things that were in the movie do not happen. Not that you need Mythbusters to tell you that. Put your brain to bed and enjoy the action and explosions. Because that is all what the movie has to offer.

'broadsword calling danny boy'. classic warfilm with richard burton (and a young clint). Two not to be missed scenes are the confrontation with the double agents, and plane trip home. brilliant in its genre.

An excellent war movie. I had forgotten just how much I had enjoyed this one. The call sign had stuck in my mind since childhood......"Broadsword to Danny Boy!"

My all time favourite war movie. It's a bit slow at the beginning - but it's well worth the wait. If you liked Guns of Navarone - you'll love this.
