On a Friday night after a drunken house party with his straight mates, Russell heads out to a gay club, alone and on the pull. Just before closing time, he picks up Glen but what's expected to be just a one-night stand becomes something else, something special. That weekend, in bars and in bedrooms, getting drunk and taking drugs, telling stories and having sex, the two men get to know each other. It is a brief encounter that will resonate throughout their lives.
Weekend is both an honest and unapologetic love story between two guys and a film about the universal struggle for an authentic life in all its forms. It is about the search for identity and the importance of making a passionate commitment to your life.

was great story line , was a bit slow at first . A couple of gay guys dating , was focused on the developing relationship between them and how changes of time . In the they discover they want more then friendship .

A couple of gay guys, one uncomfortable with his homosexuality, the other celebrating his sexuality, meet and form an unexpected bond which may or may not endure. Pretty good look at the need we all share for love and companionship regardless of our sexuality. 3.5 stars

What I liked about Weekend was the chemistry between Tom Cullen and Chris New. Their dialogue, which I think was improvised, had a spontaneity and freshness that is hard to maintain if comprehensively scripted, also their intimacy had a naturalness that convinced me of its authenticity. I credit that to the actors and the director, Andrew Haig, who allowed both leads to maintain the film’s momentum (even still it drags at times); he didn’t have much choice, the story line was focused on the developing relationship between them. ‘Weekend’ is set in Nottingham, East Midlands, where our protagonists meet in what they expect to be a casual affair but develops into something so much more.

A brief gay romance in Nottingham provides the crux of this film. I thought that the performances were so naturalistic. Very impressive. Unfortunately, the film was dull in places, however the last 20 minutes packed somewhat of a wallop. One of the sex scenes is pretty full on. Music is good and it is well photographed..

Slow-paced maybe, but this love story is compelling in its realism and underpinned by excellent performances. Refreshingly underplayed for this genre; a sensitive and high-quality production.

A heart-felt evening between two gay men that condense an intense relationship into about 24 hours. If you want to know what it's like to be gay and therefore marginalized at this point in our Western culture, check this out.

As a busy mum, I thought Weekend was one of the best films I've seen all year. Absolutely convincing and understated and natural and just so involving. It's as good as reading a really great book where you feel you know the characters and think about them afterwards - that doesn't happen with movies very often but Weekend is that good. It's filmed in such an intimate way, I'm really curious about whether it was scripted or whether the actors are just fantastic improvisers because the dialogue was just so natural, so believable. Loved it - can't recommend it highly enough.

This is without doubt one of the best GLBTI productions in recent years. The acting is touching and convincing, the storyline and plot immersive and engaging, and the cinematography flawless. The bond between the two men is? palpable on screen, and from the first, the audience is drawn into their deepest desires and fears. It strikes just the right balance between being overly-sentimental and raw. A definite must see.
