Great family film. The fact that it's a true story made it even better. A father and 2 children are looking for a fresh start after the death of his wife (childrens mother).

Oh what a mess of a movie. Bad scripting, lack of character development, particularly with support players, sloppy direction and so much sentimentality. The movie did not convince on any level- some scenes were ludicrous..the snake escape, the over-the-top zoo inspector, the opening day crowd waiting at the fallen tree. Give me a break. This "Based on a True Story" nonsense has to stop. The real zoo was in England, not America. This should have, at least, been acknowledged at the end. Damon tried and initially the litrtle girl was cute...but she quickly became irritating. One and a half stars. The extra half for Scarlet Johannsen who was very real and warm.

This movie is great as family entertainment. Even if you don't have a family. The animals are wonderful. The little girl is just so cute. I'm glad I'm not her Dad, I couldn't refuse her anything. Oh, and disclaimer: Anything with Scarlett Johansson gets high marks from me.
