War Horse, director Steven Spielberg’s epic adventure, is a tale of loyalty, hope and tenacity set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during WWI.

War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets—British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter—before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

Another Steven Spielberg winner. Beautiful story from the book and wonderful stage play of the same name. Great performances and stunning photography. Some of the war scenes are very realistic but this is a keeper for the whole family.

The horse's acting was far superior to the actors. There were some over acting but an amazing and refreshing perspective that shows the similar human qualities that are present on both sides of the war. All the reasons to avoid war because the person you are fighting really isn't all that different from you!

If you are a 'horsey' person and love 'nay-nays' this is right up your alley. If not, stay as far away as possible. Soooooooooooooooo slooooooooooooooooooow. Soooooooooooooooo ordinary. The storyline is super contrived. I would rather watch Catwoman than this. See my review on Catwoman......

Dissapointing after all the hype and build up....way too slow and long and a very thin story line and more of a fairy tale than real life outcomes....a reasonable view for a sunday arvo but not a classic to write home about....sorry.....

This one did not disappoint; in our opinion it did not get a 5, but went really close! My wife is a bit of a horse person and noticed a few technical errors; but these do not detract from what is a powerful, emotive movie - well worth seeing! Steve

Yep, it's a Spielberg movie and Richard 'Black Adder' Curtis wrote the script, but this is no Schindler's List... not even a Saving Private Ryan because the battle scenes are ruinously sanitized for 'family' viewing. (As if any movie with 'War' in its title should be family viewing FFS!) The characters are pure caricature, the plot is riddled with absurdities, and the resolution depends on a coincidence of astounding improbability. So, worth seeing only for the principal photography (England looks uncharacteristically gorgeous), and for the horses.... if you particularly like horses that is.

Unbelievably brilliant story-telling (forgivably contrived in a Lassie Come Home-style), every new phase of the movie steps to an increasing level. Filmed beautifully, it brings out the best in your Blu-Ray and hi-definition big screen. The young Jeremy Irvine shows the ability of Spielberg to work with a new face and turn them into an instant rising star. The story is not a "war movie" and the war scenes are so artistic. The real theme of the movie is about constancy of character reflected in a horse; character attributes like companionship, loyalty, love, compassion. Courage, faith, ambition, determination etc. The two horse - the big Black and the big Red mirror the comradeship of brothers in arms. The horse is a symbol of the best in humanity and undying human spirit.

Brilliant and shows that Hollywood can produce a good movie from time to time. Spielberg has made a classic here. It's a tear jerking story about fate, dedication and honor intertwined amongst the horror and chaos of world war 1. A wonderful movie to enjoy with company.

Spielberg has mixed the drama and acting of The Color Purple with the action and suspense of Saving Private Ryan and has created a superb, touching and special movie which is AAA viewing. This is a great movie for the whole family to watch and the horse(s) they used did an absolutely incredible job.
