Stunning, brutal and uncompromising, WAKE IN FRIGHT is considered one of the best films ever made in Australia. John Grant, a teacher at a remote rural school, is looking forward to his Xmas break in Sydney. Staging overnight in Bundanyabba, a rough mining town, Grant decides to enter the smoky, crowded pub... A pub he would wish he never entered. Five days later Grant leaves town a broken man, with a single bullet in his gun.

I was thoughly disappointed with this movie. I have watched quite a few Aussie flicks and with the writeup it was given it didn't match the hype as being one of the best. It lacked excitement and we were kept waiting for "something to happen" in the movie. Would not recommend if you are an animal activist either as one of the scence was rather disturbing but at the end of the movie they gave an explanation about it. ...but it was the 70"s.

due to all the fuss made over this film on its recent re-release, it was a little underwhelming. but only a little. aside from the sometimes melodramatic stereotypes of the characters, this was a great film. a nice piece of Australian film history, that gets more interesting the deeper it goes into the school teachers mind.
