'The Village' depicts the thrilling tale of an isolated town confronting the astonishing truth that lies just outside its borders. At first glance, this village seems picture perfect, but this close-knit community lives with the frightening knowledge that creatures reside in the surrounding woods. The evil and foreboding force is so unnerving that none dare venture beyond the borders of the village and into the woods. But when curious, headstrong Lucius Hunt plans to step beyond the boundaries of the town and into the unknown, his bold move threatens to forever change the future of the village.

Bit different to what I thought it would be. Very mentally lost and misguided people.

Just as i thought this movie was going nowhere i get hit by that typical Shyamalan twist that implants a thought in my mind that stays with me for days...would i have done the same thing after suffering the same circumstances?!!! That is the genius behind this movie, the actual movie itself is quite ordinary but the reason why The Village exists is very believable and makes sense as to why some people go to extreme measures after experiencing "extreme" events. Love it or hate it - you will not forget the ending!!!

Eerie, believable plot. Unbelievable blind girl however. Very emotional and understandable circumstances. Who is the real monster? Overall, excellent.

Some people may accuse this flick of being slow but there is not one piece of the story that is not essential to the plot, so pay attention and you won't have to ask questions later. The cinematography is brilliant so keeping focused is not an issue. If you like Shyamalan films, you'll love this one.

I loved The Sixth Sense and liked Unbreakable, but this effort from Shyamalan falls well short of his previous endeavours. No suspense, wooden dialogue masked as ye olden days speak and the token village idiot playing "those we don't speak of". The twist didn't work for me either.

One of my favourite William Hurt films. The special features showed just how much the actors put into their roles by going to "boot camp" to learn how people truly survived in the 1800's. Ivy was a magnificent character as was Lucious. I watch this movie over and over and still enjoy it. The music is fantastic and adds a lot to the movie.

From what the director has done in past this does not meet the expectation. The cast is good along with the set but the theme/story is a bit out of taste for the current trend of thrillers. It has some gruesome horror creatures which is a bit too much to take. Not too impressed by this peice of Shyamlals work. It needs a loittle bit more pace, editing and some more twist to grab the audience.

Wow! How do you get an all star cast to prostitute themselves to appear in a movie like this? The acting is lame, the dialogue is pathetic and the supposed twist is as obvious as a "pull my finger", fart joke! An hour and a half of my life i'll never get back .

I'm just surprised I didn't pick this movie up earlier. Whilst I thought some of the acting was a little wooden Ivy was played brilliantly by Bryce Dallas Howard and had me glued to the screen in what is one of the better movies I have seen in ages.

This is highly recommended. It explores the human need for security and safety. The story spun by the Village Elders to the villagers are exactly that. It also shows the human tragedy that some of us choose to shun society for its crimes and lacks faith in its citizens.

I wonder why they did not go back to the 1900s but back to the 1800s. A great story about living in the past. These are characters who refuse to accept their loss, and attempt to create a world to protect their sanity. Sometimes even I wonder if the simple life would be better, but then again, I wouldn't be writing on here, would I?

If you're expecting a horror movie, then don't bother but if you like a twist with good performances by class actors, then you're in for a treat. Have no idea why this movie attracted bad reviews. It kept my attention all the way through and I was well rewarded in the end....watch it.

I heard some critics describing the 'twist' explaining the genuine creepiness of the first part of this film as pretty lame, and, in terms of horror, it probably is. But it's still quite an intriguing explanation. Well acted and enjoyable - I didn't really mind that it was also preposterous.

A very superb film with a great cast. There's not much to complain about here except for the fact its not as fast or as heart pounding as I would have hoped. Signs is much better paced and scripted. See this if you like in depth thriller movies and want a few chills to run down your back. Not much if any blood and guts but a finely constructed and well shot film.

This is a movie you either love or hate, and I suspect the latter have missed the point. Marketed as a horror movie in order to avoid giving the plot away, this is anything but a horror movie. A thought-provoking comment on the evolution of modern society and its impact on mankind.
