UNFORGIVEN is a modern classic that "summarizes everything I feel about the Western," director/star Clint Eastwood told theLos Angeles Times. This American Film Institute Top-100 American Movies selection rode off with four 1992 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor (Gene Hackman) and Editing (Joel Cox). Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired outlaws who pick up their guns one last time to collect a bounty. Richard Harris is an ill-fated killer-for-hire. And Hackman is a lawman of sly charm ...and chilling brutality.

Interesting story and wonderful characters. Tries hard to be "realistic" but with larger than life main characters it can't help but go over the top a bit. But well worth watching. I enjoyed it and was sorry it ended.

Certainly a truer picture of the old western towns, dirt, poor living conditions etc. More a snapshot of an incident that gets out of control, don't expect a happy ending. Good acting by the 3 main men and the whores.

Great western, as you would expect from Clint Eastwood. Tips its hat to the great italian westerns of Sergio Lione as well as the more gritty american westerns. The

The quintessential western. Has any other western, even Clint's earlier ones, sort to show the pain, the distorted truth and the misery of the old west? This is not superficial and is deeper one might think.

It's taken me a while to get around to actually seeing this. Was different to what I thought it would be, with a very interesting dymanic between the old and young with Eastwood and Freeman being looked upto by their young partner because of the legend of their earlier exploits, only for him to find they arent those people anymore. I found it a little slow at times but definatley worth the watch.

Too bloody slow, if it wasn't for the climax a 2 would have been enough, great acting, just too slow, the climax was great, but it still only deserves a 3.

This is a modern version of the old time cowboy movies. Clint Eastwood heads an excellent cast including Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris and Gene Hackman. Well produced and action filled.

Eastwood's genius for tragedy lifts this film to great majesty as it economically paints the picture of suffering and diminishment. Large themes of loss and struggle are masterfully portrayed without a whisp of sentimentality. Totally engrossing. Fabulous work from one of cinema's great masters. Best viewed as part of a study of his life work - interesting to see similar themes treated in different films.

This movie, while technically excellent, well directed, tightly edited and beautifully shot, is unrelenting in its mean spiritedness. Having said that, it probably is a more accurate depiction of the old west than, say, Silverado etc. The performances are all first rate, but Danny Glover seems to be the only character with any redeeming facets to his character. It left me feeling rather dispirited, not one to watch when feeling a little low.
