Supernatural themes and violence

Director: Catherine Hardwicke
Actors: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser, Cam Gigandet, Jackson Rathbone

Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn't expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she's ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands - and he hasn't aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he's immortal. But he doesn't have fangs, and he doesn't drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward and Bella do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the Cullens' mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?

Please don't waste your Quickflix membership hiring out this truly terrible film. I'm really glad I've never paid to see it. I watched some of it the other night on Australian telly while I was randomly channel surfing. As I've never been a "Twi-hard" - I hadn't seen the film or the books (I have one or two friends who are fans) - but thought I would see what all the fuss was about. I'm not swayed by the toothsome charms of vampires myself. Interview With The Vampire is a better choice if you're into that sort of thing. I probably watched about an hour of the film and it is truly appalling stuff. The leads are obviously getting paid money for nothing because I didn't see much acting going Please don't waste your Quickflix membership hiring out this truly terrible film. I probably watched about an hour of the film and it is truly appalling stuff. The leads are obviously getting paid money for nothing because I didn't see much acting going on. The script is rubbish, the special effects were uninspiring and there was just nothing in it that made me care about the characters. I personally couldn't see the appeal of the pasty, scrawny, whiny, delicate, suffering little Edward when all these other lovely cute boys were asking Bella out and crying out for her attention (though for the life of me I can't think why as she seemed so boring, lifeless and uninteresting ). I could list many other reasons why this film is just BAD BAD BAD - but what difference will it make? Sadly, I am sure the film makers, the actors and the author of the books are probably laughing all the way to the bank.

I've been dreading having to write about this one, so here goes nothing. Basically I like to at least "try" and keep with up with pop culture, and as the third movie of this series was hitting cinemas I figured, what the hell. What the hell indeed. Whilst it was pretty much what I expected, a lot of mopey teenagers/vampires pining over one another in dim light, bad action scenes and overt religious undertones. You know, bad. ButI didn't expect to look so dated. I kept checking the release date in disbelief that it was only two years old cause this looks like something a music video director would think was "edgy" and "hip" in the mid nineties. It didn't by the way. Not then, and sure as hell not now.

For young teenagers? Nicely shot and I didn't think the acting was bad at all, but the the storyline - I don't know how they dragged it out for that long. Don't think I'll bother with the rest of the series.

Pretty plodding close adaptation of the novel. Some of the scenes are beatifully shot but overall a bit lacklustre. Sequel(s) should be better

This is absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen. Badly acted, poorly produced, lousy script, no plot, no character development - no point watching it. I haven't read the book although I have read The Host and quite enjoyed it, so I can't believe the book is this bad. If you want to do a movie about a young girl's fears about having sex and men being able to control their lustful natures (!), just make that the topic, not this euphemistic, sanitised rubbish. And if you want to do a vampire movie, do it properly, not some thinly disguised sappy teen romance. Even within the constraints of a romance vampire movie this is bad - there is no suspense, no pace, no progress, no story. Just one long constant overarching moan "I loooooooveee Eddddwarrrrrrrd" which is established in the first five minutes and doesn't change. About as interesting as a lovestruck teenager on Facebook.

"What has been seen cannot be unseen"...I wanted to tear my eyes out this was so bad. Everyone involved in this film should leave the industry - there is no hope for you. It deserves negative stars as zero would be too kind.

Made solely for the teenage girl market but if you can get past the poor script, shoddy acting and crappy story, visually, the movie is quite stunning. Shot in beautiful locations, the muted greens and blues are quite a treat for the eye.

Good take on the romance/vampire genre (is there one???). The low budget is sometimes evident, but the story line is good. A little slow in places, but it picks up and sets up the series nicely for another 4-6 in the series. Good for a night in with some guy and gal friends - will please most but not overly impress.
