Director: Peter Weir
Actors: Ed Harris, Jim Carrey, Laura Linney, Holland Taylor, Natascha McElhone, Noah Emmerich

He's the star of the show-but he doesn't know. Jim Carrey wowed critics and audiences alike as unwitting Truman Burbank in this marvel of a movie from director Peter Weir (Witness, Dead Poets Society) about a man whose life is a nonstop TV show. Truman doesn't realise that his quaint hometown is a giant studio run by a visionary producer/director/creator (Ed Harris), that folks living and working there are Hollywood actors, that even his incessantly bubbly wife is a contract player. Gradually, Truman gets wise. And what he does about his discovery will have you laughing, crying and cheering like few film stories ever have.

A very good film from start to finish! So glad this sort of thing doesn't happen in real life as it is practivally kidnapping and brainwashing! Such an excellent film! Would watch it many times over

Incredible. Great performances and a striking plot that makes one wonder what they would do if placed in the same situation.

Jim Carrey's best work. Watching it again now makes me think it was a bit before its time. Funny, touching and well done all round.

We loved this one!! The storyline was interesting and very original. As some one who can't stand reality tv I don't understand how people get hooked onto a show that follows a persons day to day life but then, people today do exactly that with the inundation of reality tv we have to endure. A low key Jim Carrey played the title role to perfection and the support cast were great. Well worth a watch.

Very hard not to be drawn into the world of this ultimate TV reality show. Good performance from Carrey and plenty of emotion at the conclusion.

Peter Weir's 'The Truman Show', a film of a hypothetical world in which a complete city is devoted to running a soap opera with the exception of Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) who is unaware of the show. The actors with the assistance of the director work together to create the masterpiece which is The Truman Show and portray much more than what the 'eye' can understand. The soundtrack which is briefly played works fantastically, intervening the scenes and events smoothly and identifies the mood perfectly. The Truman Show can be considered a parody of the soap opera genre and reality television. Also, there are elements of theology and ontology hidin in the movie. I highly recommend The Truman Show and similar movies.

'The Truman Show' is an irritating synopsis of a vapid fake boring recycled World that's just too irritating and pretentious to be convicing even for Hollywood. I'd recommend any other film except this and and Man on the Moon for Jim Carrey fans. Check out 'tongue in cheek' Carrey in THE CABLE GUY, which is far better and memorable.

I didn't like this movie that much but there were a few good moments. Truman never seemed to be getting anywhere until the end.

Never was a Jim Carey fan until I saw this movie. Peter Wier's slightly! cynical take on the world of TV rings very true.

A brilliant mix of humour and drama which makes you take a look at ethics while still providing a night of entertainment. Even if you're not a fan of Jim Carrey you will love this movie - great!
