love this, right up my alley. Highly recomended watch for lovers of this genre. 2.5 hr movie not boring for one minute. Great acting, storyline (historic), whole thing great
What can I say. OMG Brad Pitt at his most gorgeous. I didn't think this would be my style of movie, however, it was brilliant. It took me a long while to watch it and finally after much urging from my friends I took the plunge. Yes!
Remarkably good film... although not entirely based on stories, yet are all narratives not retold a little across time? I think it was well-acted, engaging and and quite emotional too. 4 stars.
Buffed bodies, 'slight' detraction from Homer's version but a great visual flick - average performance by Bana, and Bloom's character a little unbelievable. But Pitt surprisingly outperforms.
Well, they did say "based on Homer's Iliad", that was the only thing correct about the story. The names were right, some of the acting was good, but the rest was garbage. The Trojan war ran for over 10 years. Paris was hit by a poison arrow and died before the fall of Troy. Helen was Queen of Sparta, the line ran through the females. Menalaus only became king through marriage to her.
Love the cinematography, it is just sensational. Love the Hector played by Eric Bana, that's what a true hero ought to be. Honorable, respectable, loving, selfless and heroic. Archillies in comparison is arrogant in my opinion, not a hero in my opinion. Anyway, a good film that I think most people will enjoy.
Quite entertaining, reasonable acting, costuming
Absolutely fantastic!! and Brad Pitt was stunning... so was Eric Banna for that fact!
This movie made me annoyed. It's big budget, yet they reuse footage of Achylles' mother reaching into a rockpool for a shell. Brad Pitt is all wrong. Motifs are tacked on. What a waste of my time.
Good story, with a good ending. Enjoyed watching it.
Cant complain, enjoyed it from start to finish
Facinating Movie. Lot of research into costume and buildings. The data regarding military equipment and armament is just as impressive.
It is a long movie with considerable being made to give an authenitc air to the spirituality aspect of the belief held by ancient Greeks and Trojans.
The deaths of Hector and Achilles are overdramatic and so too are most of the love scenes in this movie.
While I enjoyed it, I don't think it will be everyone's cup of tea.
Grand scale, colorful and dramatic, BUT too contrived, the actors weren't convincing and were difficult to believe in and connect with. Overall fairly missable.
This was ok, Brad Pitt .......... well what can I say he's just yummy!! LOL
In need of some editing to tighten things up a bit. Actors do the best with what they are given but the dialogue is a bit clunky at times.
Overall a visual pleasure and sound entertainment for several hours.
Having visied Troy on my travels many years ago,it was interesting to watch the movie and therefore learn what Troy was all about. A very good film
Brad Pitt is a killing machine. It takes 4 arrows to kill him. He hangs on to liss the girl and say his piece. What a man!!
Good story but you know the ending.Brad Pitt lacking depth in his character. Other actors excellent.
If your in to those saughts os movies. Brad is a ausum fighter/acter. Otherwise, it's good for a history lesson.
Good history lesson.
Acting not the best but the story was entertaining.
don't like Brad Pitt that much but he was good in this All up a good movie.
Big effects movie with reasonable storey line but too exaggerated.
Loved it! Thought it had a lot of believable conjecture on what COULD have happened at this epic battle. Enjoyed it immensely, when I was unsure if I would.
Quite a good story line. Not as bloody thirsty as some of these epic movies I've seen.
too slow between the good bits
quite good, well acted.Rather overpowering battle scenes to the point itwas hard to imagine the whole cast was live human beings.
Good action love historical stuff
A captivating modern-day Roman soldiers type movie.
A bit too much like a war movie for me - not enough Brad!
wouldn't it be far simpler if iran & iraq fought like these guys....and looked as good!! loved the leaping, the pecs and all
I thought the movie was a little too violent for my taste.
Here's an interesting twist to the story of the wooden horse and the Trojans... Good action scenes.
Not a happy movie, tells the tale of Troy and the War between the Greeks and the Trojans, plenty of action. Worth a look with a good cast.
I like their take on this historic event. Not historically accurate but a good movie to watch.
Oh hum - men behaving badly for the sake of a quarrel over a girl. It is a shame that such good actors have such a poor plot and story to tell.
Worth watching for Brad Pitt but I grew up on stories from Greek mythology and I still thought it to complicated and overdone.
I expected more from this movie. It was too long to make it worth watching. The numerous battle scenes with aerial shots and over dramatised music got me bored and spaced out. Brad Pitt played a convincing role, but other than that, a really dismal and boring movie.
I remember nearly making up my mind to walk out on this movie in the cinema, and how much I regretted not doing so afterwards. Here are some words that come to mind: Trite, overdone, swords, long, boring, pectoral muscles, Greeks, yawn, snooze.
This movie was OK. Maybe a bit violent
Loved it. What could be better than Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana showing off their muscles for a couple of hours!!
Yet another Orlando Bloom wonder! I swear, if you have teenage daughters, don't get this movie, it's so hard to get it back! :P Otherwise, enjoy what would have to be one on the BEST Troy movies ever, well done!
Nothing groundbreaking, but will satisfy the Gladiator fans...
better than expected. battle scenes not too long.
Pilgrim guide is worth turning on for historical meanings of words and people
Brad Pitt looks great in this! So does Eric Banna for that matter! Worth a watch just for the perve
Worth watching to see how far a fellow Melbournite has come.
Typical 'epic' movie but worth it.
Absorbing story of Kings, warriors & beautiful women. The battle scenes are tremendous.
Dramatic, violent and enthralling. I don't know of the historical accuracies of all the events but it puts this piece of history in some perspective.
Not usually my type of movie, but must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of action a little romance a few tears, what more could one want?
Not my usual type of movie, but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great acting and plenty of action.
Lacks punch by having your sympathy spread between Hector and Archilles. Great battle scenes even if it is a bit historically inaccurate. And hey any movie with lots of buff blokes in short skirts wins points with me.
More a vehicle for the stars than a historical expose. Fight choreography extremely good - but hard to accept Brad Pitt as half God and a powerful super hero.
really really ordinary. the fight scene wasn't bad though.
Rip-roaring boys-own adventure about the whole Troy deal from Helen to a fabulous horse built from long-boats. Well acted adventure movie that moves along at a cracking pace. Good and believable performances from all the leads. Far superior to other mythical tales recently i.e. Alexander (which was a bore and a mish-mash). Great sets and costuming made this real. One of those movies you could watch again and again.
Good cinematography and choreography but some writing would'nt have gone amiss. A blind man could have written it better 2600 years ago.
Didn't like the digital images and the actor's lines were a bit weak.
Full of suspense. This movie kept me enthralled right to the very end. Of course Brad Pitt's gorgeous body helped at lot. Fabulous storyline, well told with plenty of action and romance to keep both genders interested. It was so good, I've bought my own copy to keep.
If you can overlook Brad Pitts terrible case of wooden acting this is actually quite a good movie. Eric Bana is excellent and Orlando Bloom provides some eye candy. The battle scenes are terrific and the overall look of the movie is great
if you loved braveheart and gladiator you will LOVE this!
Superb movie based on Homer's epic tale. Really well done, top action scenes, great characters and acting and the story is of course a classic one. Must see it!
Good Australian acting (Eric Bana), great to imagine this was how it was for a history buff, interesting historical interiors.
Good battle scenes, good acting, better wooden horse than the modern one at Troy!
I didn't enjoy this movie even though I eagerly anticipated it coming out in movies, I like the scenes and costumes, but what I didn't like about it was the butchery of the storyline and characters, since I'm a Greek Mythology buff and know the full story it was easy for me to follow and know what was SUPPOSED to happen, but it was him killing characters who DIDN'T die according to the legend and cutting out key essential characters from the tru lengend and myth that ruined this movie for me and that of all the other Greek Mythology historians who like me were expecting a true masterpiece in it's long awaited portrayal, the ONLY true character played in this film was that of Brad Pitt's Achilles and WHAT A BODY !!!!!!
If you liked Gladiator & Spartacus then you will enjoy watching Troy.
Pretty entertaining, even if a bit long.
The worst film I've seen in ages. Apalling dialogue uttered by inanimate wooden actors. The cliches come thick and fast in this unimaginative tripe! The only things of note are the work of the set builders and the extras.
Entertaining and visually spectacular.
Great film from start to finish. Eric Bana distinquished himself and Peter O'Toole gave a moving performance. Blockbuster status.
Great if you like epic's and legends and don't mind blood.
Not the story I remembered, but hey, Brad was still lovely to watch.
Bit long and boring. Needed more of a love story with it.
Over-acted lusty stares from the unfaithful queen and brutish male yobs gulping down chicken legs at a banquet - and that is only the first ten minutes. I didn't watch any more. Awful
If you like movies with over the top sappy moments & accents that cause the actor to speak slower than what is natural go for it, otherwise steer clear. Fights are good but other than that it's disappointinly ordinary!
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Story obviously predictable because it's so well known. Enjoyable nevertheless ... well made and well told.
Great movie, not Eric Bana's best performance but still absolute viewing.
Has its moments. Peter O'Toole is outstanding.
Exciting, great special effects.
Whilst I agree with many of the critics that it was a bit superficial and clichéd, I found it a really enjoyable movie. The fights seemed believable, the sets inspiring but not ridiculous and the story was easy to follow. I didn't have a high expectation so perhaps that was why I found it so easy to enjoy.
The only thing that made this movie worth watching were the sets, cinamatography, and Brad Pitt's body
A film of epic proportions! The climatic battle scene between Hector and Archilles is one to hold out for. Enjoyable movie.
I was getting more enjoyment out of the costumes, props and design generally. The dialogue is notably bad - ancient armies worrying about "losing their credibility"?
One of Brad's better roles....Eric Bana does a great job in his supporting role also.
Long and in parts boring, but worth watching
A good old fashioned epic film with lots of fight scenes (not too gory). Eric Bana has come a long way since doing "Poida".
Surely the most expensive bit of eye candy ever made! Don't get me wrong, its absolutely fabulous to watch, stunning even....all those well muscled...oiled...tanned....torsos...where was i?? Oh the review :) Dialogue is very ordinary, turning the sound off won't really harm the experience. I found it a little confusing at times...too many kings looking alike! And since when did greek men look like celtic lords with red hair/beards?! I guess Peter Jackson and his LOTR Trilogy has made us all raise our standards of what we expect from epic movies because Troy falls short on all fronts. Thank you Mr Jackson for giving us intelligent, detailed movies and helping us see we don't have to put up with passionless Hollywood tripe like Troy. Good for a look if you want to look at hunks for two hours :)
Not in the class of other movies depicting this era. It was OK but a little dragged out.
A brilliant movie with first rate performances fom Eric and Brad, it was an epic story of love and honour and the war it started.
A must see for Ancient History buffs and Brad Pitt admirers.
A great watch even if a little poetic licence was used with the story line - it is a movie afterall, not a documentary.
Excellent movie, highly recommend it
I know it is formulaic and cheesy, but if you're a chick or love Brad, you'll get into this movie like a packet of double-dipped Tim Tams.
Good but not the epic it could have been. Strong story - maybe just a bit too much Hollywood in this one though.
Only watch if you want to see Brad Pitt's butt. Although Eric Bana was sensational. The story line was implausable and unbelievable.
I loved it! Brad and Eric were both hot!!
A true blockbuster. Worth watching. I enjoyed it more than Gladiator
Character development very poor - pretty much everyone gets killed and you just don't give a toss. Watch it if you have nothing better to do.
Although long I found this movie enthralling.
Boring in parts but worth watching for Eric Banna
2.5 stars?! It was alright- that's all. Thought it would be better. Liked the big special effects- armies, etc.
Superb, well-written film, excellent cast of actors, impressive costumes and location. Magnificent battles with outstanding screen presentation.
That's 2.5 hours I'll never see again! Nothing happened for the first hour, the script must have been written by a schoolkid and Brad Pitt just minces around looking pensive and rolling out predictable cliches - a load of rubbish that not even the all-star cast could save!
Not exactly historically correct but still not too bad for its genre.
Competent modern sword & sandal epic. Eric Bana does a creditable job
as Hector. Other key parts played by name actors (with one exception)
also handle their roles adequately. Now for Mr Pitt. Troy allows Brad to
demonstrate the full range of his acting talent. Alas. As far as the story
goes, you can't go too far wrong with a story that's lasted a few thousand
years despite the regretable and unnecessary departures from the
original (such as the death of one or two that weren't killed in the original
and the complete missing of the point that the original drama occurs on
multiple levels - political and domestic both mortal and divine).
I have to admit that I was expecting a bit more of this movie. I thought the acting was OK (good to see Eric Banna taking on a role with a bit of grit) but overall it was a bit stilted in the delivery.
