Moderate violence, Low level coarse language

Director: Wolfgang Petersen
Actors: Brad Pitt, Brendan Gleeson, Brian Cox, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Peter O'Toole, Rose Byrne, Saffron Burrows, Sean Bean, Diane Kruger

Throughout time, men have waged war. Some for power, some for glory, some for honor - and some for love. In ancient Greece, the passion of two of literature's most notorious lovers, Paris, Prince of Troy (ORLANDO BLOOM) and Helen (DIANE KRUGER), Queen of Sparta, ignites a war that will devastate a civilization. When Paris spirits Helen away from her husband, King Menelaus (BRENDAN GLEESON), it is an insult that cannot be suffered. Familial pride dictates that an affront to Menelaus is an affront to his brother Agamemnon (BRIAN COX), powerful King of the Mycenaeans, who soon unites all the massive tribes of Greece to steal Helen back from Troy in defense of his brother's honor.

What can I say. OMG Brad Pitt at his most gorgeous. I didn't think this would be my style of movie, however, it was brilliant. It took me a long while to watch it and finally after much urging from my friends I took the plunge. Yes!

Remarkably good film... although not entirely based on stories, yet are all narratives not retold a little across time? I think it was well-acted, engaging and and quite emotional too. 4 stars.

Buffed bodies, 'slight' detraction from Homer's version but a great visual flick - average performance by Bana, and Bloom's character a little unbelievable. But Pitt surprisingly outperforms.

Well, they did say "based on Homer's Iliad", that was the only thing correct about the story. The names were right, some of the acting was good, but the rest was garbage. The Trojan war ran for over 10 years. Paris was hit by a poison arrow and died before the fall of Troy. Helen was Queen of Sparta, the line ran through the females. Menalaus only became king through marriage to her.

Love the cinematography, it is just sensational. Love the Hector played by Eric Bana, that's what a true hero ought to be. Honorable, respectable, loving, selfless and heroic. Archillies in comparison is arrogant in my opinion, not a hero in my opinion. Anyway, a good film that I think most people will enjoy.

This movie made me annoyed. It's big budget, yet they reuse footage of Achylles' mother reaching into a rockpool for a shell. Brad Pitt is all wrong. Motifs are tacked on. What a waste of my time.

Facinating Movie. Lot of research into costume and buildings. The data regarding military equipment and armament is just as impressive. It is a long movie with considerable being made to give an authenitc air to the spirituality aspect of the belief held by ancient Greeks and Trojans. The deaths of Hector and Achilles are overdramatic and so too are most of the love scenes in this movie. While I enjoyed it, I don't think it will be everyone's cup of tea.

Rip-roaring boys-own adventure about the whole Troy deal from Helen to a fabulous horse built from long-boats. Well acted adventure movie that moves along at a cracking pace. Good and believable performances from all the leads. Far superior to other mythical tales recently i.e. Alexander (which was a bore and a mish-mash). Great sets and costuming made this real. One of those movies you could watch again and again.

I didn't enjoy this movie even though I eagerly anticipated it coming out in movies, I like the scenes and costumes, but what I didn't like about it was the butchery of the storyline and characters, since I'm a Greek Mythology buff and know the full story it was easy for me to follow and know what was SUPPOSED to happen, but it was him killing characters who DIDN'T die according to the legend and cutting out key essential characters from the tru lengend and myth that ruined this movie for me and that of all the other Greek Mythology historians who like me were expecting a true masterpiece in it's long awaited portrayal, the ONLY true character played in this film was that of Brad Pitt's Achilles and WHAT A BODY !!!!!!

Oh the review :) Dialogue is very ordinary, turning the sound off won't really harm the experience. I found it a little confusing at times...too many kings looking alike! And since when did greek men look like celtic lords with red hair/beards?! I guess Peter Jackson and his LOTR Trilogy has made us all raise our standards of what we expect from epic movies because Troy falls short on all fronts. Thank you Mr Jackson for giving us intelligent, detailed movies and helping us see we don't have to put up with passionless Hollywood tripe like Troy. Good for a look if you want to look at hunks for two hours :)

Character development very poor - pretty much everyone gets killed and you just don't give a toss. Watch it if you have nothing better to do.

2.5 stars?! It was alright- that's all. Thought it would be better. Liked the big special effects- armies, etc.

Superb, well-written film, excellent cast of actors, impressive costumes and location. Magnificent battles with outstanding screen presentation.

That's 2.5 hours I'll never see again! Nothing happened for the first hour, the script must have been written by a schoolkid and Brad Pitt just minces around looking pensive and rolling out predictable cliches - a load of rubbish that not even the all-star cast could save!

Not exactly historically correct but still not too bad for its genre.

Competent modern sword & sandal epic. Eric Bana does a creditable job as Hector. Other key parts played by name actors (with one exception) also handle their roles adequately. Now for Mr Pitt. Troy allows Brad to demonstrate the full range of his acting talent. Alas. As far as the story goes, you can't go too far wrong with a story that's lasted a few thousand years despite the regretable and unnecessary departures from the original (such as the death of one or two that weren't killed in the original and the complete missing of the point that the original drama occurs on multiple levels - political and domestic both mortal and divine).

I have to admit that I was expecting a bit more of this movie. I thought the acting was OK (good to see Eric Banna taking on a role with a bit of grit) but overall it was a bit stilted in the delivery.
