From executive producer Ridley Scott (Gladiator) comes a sweeping, action-packed saga of epic battles, political intrigue and forbidden passion, set in a time when the lines between heroism and savagery were etched in fire and carved out with broadswords. After the fall of Rome, visionary warlord Marke (Rufus Sewell) seeks to unite the squabbling English tribes to form one strong nation and defeat the brutal Irish king Donnchadh. But when Lord Marke's greatest and most loyal knight, Tristan (James Franco), falls in love with Isolde (Sophia Myles), a beautiful Irish woman, it threatens to destroy the fragile truce and ignite a war. In the spirit of Braveheart and A Knight's Tale, Tristan + Isolde is a rousing tale of trust and treachery that will leave you breathless!

‘Tristan and Isolde’ is great. Sometimes ‘epics’ can get too bogged-down by the sheer breadth of the story and consequently try and cover too much. That isn’t the case here. This is a love story underpinned by political intrigue and personal conflict that has a profound effect on the lives of others. The cinematography is exceptional and beautifully shot in Ireland and the Czech Republic. The set and costumes appear authentic and the acting is first rate.

Watched this movie on recommendation to explore the love attachments and how we Westerners are bought up to belive that true love must be full of drama and how we cannot live without another..loved the movie but didn't find it as dramatic as the book "We..Understanding the Psychology of Romantic Love" told the story of Triston and Iseult. I did find it frustrating that they snuck off together when she could have had a perfectly loving relationship with Mark..highly recommend the story but I also love that Era so may not be everyone's cuppa.

I found this a bit of slog. Lots of colour and a lot of effort, it seems, to get the period right but it's no Braveheart. It just didn't involve me. Try it you like this medieval time period and have a bit of patience.

Surprisingly good costume drama that looks good and is not simply an opportunity to stage big battle scenes. The performances are restrained and all the better for it. Though the soundtrack was very good, I would have loved to have heard the strains of Wagner's opera of the same name. It may have lifted this film to even greater heights.

Historically enlightening re: the Irish attacks on the Cornish tribes. The love birds gorgeous, and shows this antecedent of the themes of torn between two lovers - Arthur & Guinevere etc Hubby wants me to knit the tunics they wore!

I loved this , beautifully filmed and evocative of time and place. The two lead actors are a delight to watch and the doomed love story is sure to bring a tear to the eye. Probably will appeal to a predominantly female audience but my husband was still watching at the final credits. The extras include the theme song and worth a listen.

Like most historicals (true or fantastical) there is usually an element of predictability. However, I've fallen in love with this film. James Franco and Sophia Myles are great and the crew did a fantastic job on what is considered a small budget for this type of film.

The legend is loosely interpreted,as it is not a medieval political struggle, but a love story, with no "correctness".Otherwise it is a very good enjoyable epic, with love woven into it. Well played and directed, and the scenery/props are marvelous.(wish they meke a movie abt. King Arthur with the same set up) Must see if you want an excitingly nostalgic evening.

Everyone know the tale of King Arthur but this is truly a better take on the tale. It is based loosely on an old legend which existing long before the tales of King Arthur sprung up. The actors all play their roles convincingly and if you are not very familar with James Franco, then do yourself a favour and see this movie. The visual aspect of the scenery is filmed very convincingly and adds to the magic of this story.

It may help to watch this movie in complete quiet, with no distractions to fully comprehend the story line and just who's who. Very much like Romeo and Juliet in as far as the love story with no future, held back by the feuding families or clans/countries in this particular case. Enjoyable but nothing remarkable.

Was a little disappointed with the story line and think more emphasis should be placed on true events in history. This did actually happen around the era of King Arthur, so there some realism in the movie. The real end of Tristam is a more emotional then depicted here. Would have been a quite a tear jerker.
