I agree with the other reviews this film was uneven. Should have been on a par with Brokeback Mountain but it just didn't quite make it,

This movie spans from the early 70s' to early 80's, so you've got gay liberation and the AIDS epidemic all bundled in with a couple of seemingly ageless lead boy actors. A watchable tale with some sentiment and occasional funny one-liners.

I would have liked to have rated this higher but it was just too uneven. The first two thirds is a largely a comedy of "boy meets and falls in love with boy" and parts of it are a hoot. Thereafter it switches to a drama and (occasionally) a melodrama. Despite the title this isn't a gay road movie. Worth watching but don't expect too much. "Cowboys and Angels" and "Latter Days" are worth seeking out too.
