Transformers is more that meets the eye. This exciting live action motion picture tells the compelling saga of the Transformers giant sentient beings (robots with feelings) from a distant planet who must disguise their identities as cars, planes, and otherwise ordinary electronic equipment on Earth. Locked in battle for an energy source hidden on Earth, the peaceful Autobots fight the evil Decepticons who are determined to take over the universe with their technology. Integral to the plot are Sam (Shia LaBeouf) and Mikaela (Megan Fox), two high school students, who unknowingly hold the key to the Transformers elusive energy source. Its a fight to the finish of good versus evil, Autobot vs. Decepticon, man versus Machine, as our teams band together to defeat the Decepticons and save the Earth.

Not quite what I was hoping for. I remember the cartoon and the amazing toys from when i was a kid. The movie captures some of this, but spends far more time focussing on the gawky teenage lead behaving with some very cringe-worthy stereotypical attitudes and dialogue. My wife refused to watch it and it is lucky she did because she wouldn't have made it past the first half hour. On the other hand, if you accept that it was possibly aimed at 7-14 year olds then perhaps the shallowness of character is more understandable - and the movie itself quite enjoyable. The transformers themselves are brilliant. The battles are exciting and only occasionally overdone. And....you can't go past Megan Fox. What a fox!

Movie is really good popcorn action - loved it. The two stars is more for the blu-ray. The disc was not so good in terms of sound and quality of picture I'd expect of blu-ray. Probably wasn't helped much by the fact I'd just watched Avatar on blu-ray before this (incredible)!

I went to see Transformers. You know, the toys I played with as a kid, the doona cover I had, the cartoon. Robots disguised as various means of transport. Should be a rollocking, joyful time. What I got was a misogynistic, sexist mess. Everything about this movie was just awful - acting, dialogue, plot, product placement, the effects, the music, the direction. Everything. Not only do you have to swallow all that, it then shoves these 1950's values down your throat. If it had the slightest hint of irony or humour I'd be all over it (see Grindhouse.) But this is plain appalling. And yet everyone else in the cinema was loving it. Shrug.
