"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family..." This is the story of Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) and his so-called friends - a bunch of losers, liars, psychos, thieves and junkies. Hilarious but harrowing, the film charts the disintegration of their friendship as they proceed seemingly towards self-destruction. Mark alone has the insight and opportunity to escape his fate - but then again does he really want to "choose life"?

On of the all time best movies, portrays the endless loops of drug addiction and dependance. The struggle of the characters show hope hopeless life can seem and how hard you need to work to make something of yourself in a society of drugs

What an excellent movie. The acting was brilliant and the storyline was great. Sure, it's a bit depressing at times but there are funny moments too. It's real, it's life. One of my top 20 movies for sure.

This is not the film I expected, it was so much better. Words such as "gritty" and "earthy" are suitable, but also "passionate" and "surprising". Well acted, well paced, well shot and well thought out.

This is brilliant. I suspect a somewhat accurate snapshot of the real world of drugs and sex. Not exactly the Woodstock dream but gritty, intelligent, funny and highly entertaining. Ewan is excellent.

I'm quite a film buff..so how come it took me thirteen years to come to "Trainspotting"????? I don't know but, at last, I've caught up with it. As confronting as I'd been led to believe, very well acted with language to shock your maiden aunt, this is a 4 star movie.

Frankly i was expecting some sort of gangsters movie when i put this on my queue. It totally blew me out... It brings out human nature to fore. I have worked on addiction as part of degree project and i can say with out any doubt this refreshes my memory of strange things i have seen and heard during my research way back in late 80's.

Great movie for its time but a warning if you have an infant as I do as I found one scene quite disturbing.

Not for everyone with many rather disturbing scenes, but excellent script and brilliant acting by all. Ewen McGregor is almost unrecognisable.

Interestingly constructed film. I think you have to have a pretty messed up sense of humour to find this funny. I enjoyed it though.

Extaordinary film. Genuinely morally ambiguous, often uncomfortable for the viewer but at the same time hilarious, warm, heart-wrenching and thought-provoking. Shows that Ewan McGregor is a genuine talent.

This is in my top 3 best films of all time. Depressing, frightening but yet uplifting. This is the Definitive Trainspotting, but the 2nd DVD is waste of time. Not really seeing a bunch of "stars" at Cannes rabbitting on about "how Trainspotting touched their lives" and how they could "draw parallels to their own lives". Hand me a barf bag

Too much swearing...etc. Give me a break, this is the nearest thing to real life that you would ever see in most movies. I think Mr MacNamara must live in cosseted suburbia. This movie is a defining moment in the history of British movie making. I suggest anyone who appreciated this also gets Ken Loach's Raining Stones, possibly one of the most heart-wrenching, yet hilariously, funny movies (along with Trainspotting) that you might ever see. Hollywood will never match this.
