There are over 300 bank robberies in Boston every year. And most of the professionals live in a one-square-mile neighbourhood called Charlestown. One of them is Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck), but he is not cut from the same cloth as his fellow thieves. Unlike them, Doug had a chance at success, a chance to escape following in his father's criminal footsteps. Instead, he became the leader of a crew of ruthless bank robbers, who pride themselves on taking what they want and getting out clean. The only family Doug has are his partners in crime, especially Jem (Jeremy Renner), who, despite his dangerous, hair-trigger temper, is the closest thing Doug ever had to a brother. However, everything changed on the gang's last job when Jem briefly took a hostage: bank manager Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). When they discover she lives in Charlestown, Jem gets nervous and wants to check out what she might have seen. Knowing what Jem is capable of, Doug takes charge. He seeks out Claire, who has no idea that their encounter is not by chance or that this charming stranger is one of the men who terrorised her only days before.

Good movie. Plenty of action. Good story line. We do feel sympathy for Ben's character but should we? We wouldn't in real life. Jeremy Renner is nearly in every film these days lol. Worth a watch.

Shows the interaction of four adopted boys who investigate and revenge the death of their mother. Set in the Bronx when the Irish Italian majority has moved out and up, the simple story line is developed through the complex interaction of the four "boys" among themselves and with the corrupt cop and gangster who killed their mother. Very staisfying and unexpected ending.

I really enjoyed this movie and ended up having a lot of sympathy for Ben Affleck's character. Being in the situations the boys found themselves in with no other options and just become what is around them (nature/nuture??) was really interesting and sad to watch. Well done and highly enjoyable.

Really enjoyed this film which has something for everyone; plenty of action, tension between credible characters, a doomed romance and a moral dilemma. Ben Affleck, post J Lo infatuation, is emerging as a decent writer, director and actor. Like the setting for 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Gone baby gone'; working class Boston is clearly a spiritual home that brings out the best of his abilities.

I shouldn't have read the reviews about this movie as years ago I made the same mistake when someone told me that "HEAT" was crap and I listened. Years later we watched "HEAT" and loved it. We enjoyed this movie and Ben Affleck did great at directing and acting in it. If you like HEAT you will like this movie.

After reading a review stating that it was strong directorial debut by Ben Affleck we gave it go. 20 minutes of mumbling by an almost incomprehesible cast my wife and I gave up. We fast forwarded to the end and my better half said I told you 90 minutes ago that is how it would end.

Besides Affleck providing a solid performance. Rebecca Hall is terrific as the bank manager and Affleck's love interest. It's was interesting to see a smaller name in such a big role but it worked to the films advantage. She seemed perfect to play an out of town girl, who gets involved with someone as sleazy and shady as Doug. Jon Hamm did a perfect job as the lead FBI agent. I haven't seen him in many other movies but his mannerisms fit my ideal image of a FBI agent. Jeremy Renner, who played James was just nuts! He played this whacked out character perfectly. The guy seemed to not care about anything and anyone but did it in such a believable fashion. He truly was a demented and troubled soul in the film and really acted his heart out to show that. The one person I do have to say didn't really wow me was Blake Lively. I will admit it was nice seeing her play a really dark and gritty role, which is out of her normal character but she wasn't convincing to me. I just had a hard time believing her as a trashy person. I am sure many would disagree but trashy I couldn't picture.

Not a bad effort from Affleck, being in front and behind the camera.
Didn't try and live every moment of every film he'll star and direct/produce
in this one try. A bit of action and blokey stuff, worth a look, as a warm up
for a feature film, I think he's on the right track.

Great action great storyline well exacuted,even a surprising romance. Somthing for both sexs. Dives deeper into the main character played by MATT DAMON more than most movies in this genr'e. Lets face it MATT could just stand there reciting poetry and I would still watch it.But this one deserves 4 STARS and an extra one for MATT, but to be fair I almost never give 5.

For me this movie had a similar feel as that of the 2009 release Armored, and the 1991 release Point Break. For those not into the story line, there is just enough action to warrant a look see. Although not totally memorable, this would probably be the only reason I went back and watched it again.

Typical bank heist film with ok performances. Some parts of Town felt like it was copying, unsuccessfully, the classic film Heat - contest between the lawman and perp, last job before the "hero" quits his life of crime, hero's girlfriend doesn't know who he really is......

4 star movie I could watch again. Excellent direction and acting by Ben Affleck, coupled with Jeremy Renner hard-hitting performance provides thoughtful management about their relationship and what happens to it. You get a realistic insight into a family of bank robbers, their misguided values and their struggle with the Law. An innocent crime victim's dilemma choosing between right and wrong. Strong action shoot out scenes, great chemistry between the two main lovers, few unexpected turns, overall a quality night's entertainment. RECOMMENDED

Good film, well paced and well played by Ben Affleck. Terribly corny ending (what is it with Hollywood movies - they can't resist!) so i wish I had turned off 2 minutes before the end and I would have come away more impressed. But other than that, a quite fine film. Pity John Hamm's character wasn't stretched in terms of performance. I would like to see what he's capable of in a feature film.

A really gritty, well made heist film. Shades of Heat (De Niro/Pacino) with some of the street battles. Affleck really captures the essence of the the Detroit suburb he resides in. Terrific viewing. They are talented people, those Affleck boys.

Very solid movie in all areas, most people should enjoy this film. For me the beginning of the relationship wasn't very believable. Some fantastic, tense action sequences. Found it enjoyably very similar to Heat in terms of feel and style but a little too similar with quite a few plot elements and scenes. Its cliched and predictable but the action and scenes with jeremy renner make this an enjoyable expereince.

Ben Affleck be still my beating heart. Jen Garner I'll have him if you're over him. A gritty well done movie. Has the obligatory numerous F words thrown in and lotsa shooting. But then you'd expect that. With all the fuss about Blake she didn't even register for me in this. Rebecca is very good. Affleck actually has good directing skills.
