This Cold War tale stars Gary Oldman as George Smiley, an MI6 operative who is tasked with finding a mole in the organisation and who comes up against a team of specialised operatives all of whom are potentially the double-agent. It flips back and forth in time and takes in a number of European locations. The operatives are played by a stunning cast led by Oscar winner Colin Firth (in his first role since The King's Speech), Tom Hardy (the white hot British star coming off Inception), Mark Strong (Robin Hood, Kick Ass) and Benedict Cumberbatch (star of TV's Sherlock). The pedigree project is directed by Tomas Alfredsen, the acclaimed Swedish director of Let the Right One In.

intriguing but entertainment value loses out - had to concentrate hard and still didn't get the reward.

Excellent movie. Had a great "old" feel about it, but don't expect a thrilling spy film. It's not James Bond, its realistic. A lot of people will hate this.

This would be the worst movie I have ever attempted to watch. Hubby (who chose this from the reviews) and i watched it for half an hour and couldn't understand what was going on with all the jumping around the place. Don't waste your time with this one! Obviously the critics who raved about it have a very different opinion of what rates as a good movie. Can I give it less than 1 star???

Highly cerebral espionage thriller about the winkling out of a spy within the ranks of the British MI6. John Le Carre's book has been stripped down to its essentials which makes empathy with most of the characters difficult and indeed their relevance to the story somewhat hard to follow. Quikflix should invest in the original masterful TV mini series with Alec Guiness in the role of George Smiley (as well as the follow-up "Smiley's People"). It's pretty good but a familiarity with the book or the miniseries, makes it a lot better.

This is not a fast paced spy thriller. It could have almost been shot in real time it was that slow. A bit of an anticlimax really.

Wow did this need your FULL attention !! Once getting the hang of all the jumping about from country to country and time (decade) to time and the plot of who is it that is the double agent..... I was exhausted and confused and exhilarated and disappointed, all at the same time.... I think it was well executed and kept you riveted (if only just in fear of losing track of who's who and "where are we now, Russia, Hungary or England?") A lot of thinking is needed here, if you are in the frame of mind to be relaxed and entertained, you may well be entertained but not for a moment will you be relaxed.
