Had heard it was hilarious. No it wasn't. Very few funny bits. Mainly annoying and stupid. I don't mind crude but I detest if it's not clever. Boring too. I want that time back please.
I give it 3.5 stars because of Nora Jones. Should have had more of her performing. I kept watching thinking it would improve but it didn't so I can't recommend this movie.
A pretty good example of the "sentient teddy bear brought to life by a child's wish who then becomes an alcoholic womanizing slacker only to find redemption" genre. It had all the poop jokes and mild racism that I've come to expect from Seth Macfarlane. I enjoyed it a lot.
Crude, vulgar, disgusting...I loved it. Lots of laughs and even a love story.
This movie is TERRIBLE! I didn't watch it to the end and the story line of the girl wanting him to let go of the bear and marry her - who could marry such a loser? PLEASE!
I knew this movie was going to be crude but I can do crude as long as its funny. Sooo not funny wouldn't recommend it
This is definitely NOT funny, unless you think that crudity and toilet humor (eg defecating on the floor) is humorous. I didn't laugh once throughout this silly, inane movie. To what depths has Hollywood sunk?
I must have a weird sense of humour, as I actually liked this movie. It's not a great movie. The 'story' does not matter. It will never win any award (I hope) but it does deliver some good genuine laughs (at least for me). If you liked the 2011 movie of the alien 'Paul' you will probably like this. Some similarities even.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad film, it's just not a good one. My first impression pre-viewing was that if you are going to produce a movie about a man and his 'come to life' teddy bear then it must be a very clever story.. But as it happens, the movie lacked creativity and instead relied on Seth Macfarlane's usual inappropriate shock humour and a pretty cast to pull the story along. There were some obvious humorous moments (which were all stocked into the previews), but overall, just as I felt after watching The Hangover, I was left with a deep sense of disappointment at where American comedy is headed these days. I would recommend this movie to avid fans of Family Guy and Robot Chicken, but for everyone else this might be a Sunday numb-out-film. To reiterate, this is not a bad film, it's actually quite fluent and easy to watch, however, there is no effort to differentiate from others in it's 'in your face, gross out comedy' family, so there it will stay and slowly be forgotten.
Thought we would give it a go but after 5mins had had enough. A crass and unimaginative movie - if you like a bear with a bong you may appreciate it.
Absolute unadulterated garbage. Can I give it MINUS 5 stars?
This is a stupid movie. I cannot believe it made it to the cinemas.
I was unsure if I'd enjoy this movie because of reviews I'd read previously about it being crude. I watched the unrated version had some good laughs and didn't find it crude! Loved it!
This movie is about as low as it goes. Politically incorrect everything. Poor script.
Don't waste your eyeballs.
Naughty! Got a good laugh even though the story line is not strong. Its entertainment! Definitely not suitable for kids.
The jokes start of pretty original and witty but this turns into just another dull rom com with the odd offfensive gag to keep it going.
Some funny moments. But overall didn't like the drug use, language and stupid sex scenes.
You know when you think "hey i'm not into formulaic hollywood drivel, but maybe this one could be different" - well sorry no exceptions here. Tries to please the boys with crude vulgarity, tries to please the girls with the oh-so-predictable "when will he let go of the bear, grow up and marry me" (please save me). End result, mildly entertaining chick flick. Perhaps if you don't expect much and there is nothing else to watch? *certainly not for kids*
Was ok. Had some funny bits and other sections seemed to drag on.
Pretty original idea and in parts very funny.
I'm actually a fan of (well done, clever) un-PC humour, but this is just underwritten, cliched drivel.
Very weak story, silly and at times rude.,not my cup of tea.Theirs a movie out, staring Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster.Mel struggles to find sanity with his conscience, which comes to life in the form of a Beaver, Hand puppet , Mel wears on his hand through -out the movie.Wondering .,whether Ted (the movie) was structured around this movie?
If you're not amused by preteen rebellious-male crudities, skip this one.
Don't expect a lot, then it's much funnier than you think!
Heaps of drug use and pretty dirty but in all a funny movie!!
really vulgar and not funny
Not as good as lead up to believe
The novelty of a crude teddy is funny for about 15 minutes then the movie has nowhere to go
extremely funny!! great watch
Knew what we were getting into with this, being huge Family Guy fans. It was.hilarious, cringeworthy, stupid, gross, crass and cute, all in small.parts. Overall it is worth a watch if you like Macfarlane style humour.
If you have seen Family Guy, you will know the type of humour to expect in this movie. Quite crude, sometimes funny, it appears to be self-indulgent, and after seeing Seth McFarlane host the Oscars, I wasn't disappointed
30 minutes of my life wasted
heavily overated ,poor humour ,the only decent thing was mila kunis
A different movie, but worth a watch. Not for the kids though.Highly successful at the box office,so it has got to have something.Kudos to Seth Macfarlane for his writing, directing and voice over.I can now understand why he has a net worth of $100 million.I think there is a sequel in the pipeline.Let's hope there is not a wave of copycat type flicks to come from other lesser B grade studios.
This is either a love it or hate it movie. I loved it, to a point. Storyline a bit silly but the parts that are funny, are REALLY laugh out loud funny. Sadly not enough of them. Expected it to be just how it was, crude & rude but sadly too much of the drug taking for my liking, and definately not one for children. Probably a movie to watch when there's nothing on TV.
I finally got this movie after all the hipe had died down. I didn't like it. I found it boring, predictable and just plain stupid. If you like movies like Dude's where's my car, this one's for you. If not, don't bother.
So very, very funny. Not a ":must see" movie, but still very funny
A waste of viewing time!20 minutes into it I was done!!
A bit too much swearing, language "for the sake of it" isn't my think, but otherwise this is a great buddy movie.
Some funny moments. Not bad.
So you get a movie out that's made by Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, and its rated MA15 for language and drug use, but then you write a review complaining about how crude it was and it contained, wait for it, drug use! Some Quickflixers here need to do a bit more reasearch before choosing a movie! I found the first 15mins or so a bit slow, but then it started to grow on me, with plenty of in jokes and don't go there moments. So if you like Seth's work, this will probably please you. If you don't, then steer clear.
Shocking, not funny and crude
Very disappointing.Not for children.
Had some genuinely funny moments through the movie but too far between belly laughs. Those of you who didn't expect crudeness obviously haven't seen Family Guy or The Cleveland Show. That said, it wasn't as funny as either of those shows.
Expected a mildly humourous PG style movie, it was much more - very adult raunchy homour. Loved it.
was not even very funny. shame, we were so looking forward to it too!
I enjoyed it,the robotics were brilliant, bit weird hearing Peter Griffins voice from Family Guy though. The humour was a bit crude, but hey,it is 2013,if you don't like that sort of crudity, turn it off.The acting was pretty good as was the humour. Definitely not for the kids
Going along with the whole premise of a crude-talking and degenerate-living teddy, there is a lot to like in this movie, particularly the fraught love story and the genuinely funny gags. Equally there is much to dislike: many times it's not funny at all, just cringe-worthy, bad-taste humour. Maybe it's just American humour.
As others ave said, I expected crudeness and some bad language, BUT not as far over the top as this. In my opinion the plot could have been OK but the excessive gutter garbage destroyed it.
I loved Borat so I am not a prude... I tried hard but I only lasted 15 minutes into the film, I ask why would a class actor like Mark Wahlberg sign up for this teenage gutter rubbish, not recommended for baby boomers.
Absolutly loved it, only a non PC Bear could get away with some of he's antics.
Funny!! Ted, the character itself, was a little crude but thats the point.
Disappointed. Appalling language, didn't really relate to the trailer....not funny.
I was expecting this to be 'naughty', I wasn't expecting rude, crude, vulgar and utter rubbish. This has hit an all time low, total rubbish.
That would have to be one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time....what a let down :(
not as good a story as I thought it would be. had it's funny moments, but had enough of the language all the time, didn't think the bong smoking was funny
Really hated this movie. I think it is too over-rated and this it would be hard to put a proper rating on it as it is definitely not for kids.
Some might find it funny but I found it crude.
A funny movie. too much bad language though. Very heart wrenching in places. Really enjoyed it.
Absolute rubbish....not the least bit funny.....turned off after ten minutes.....review should come with warnings of a bong smoking Ted....not funny!
Starts out cute, rapidly progresses through weird to gross, and ends up pathetic - Lance Armstrong's nut??!!!. Flash Gordon was a good movie, but this was rubbish!
Funny in parts, however rude and crude not for me!
1 word review - hillarious.
I could not watch the movie right through. Too thin in it's content and too much swearing.
I think most teenagers (especially boys) would find this hilarious. I didn't hate the movie but the foul language & crass 'sexual theme' comedy was in poor taste and so that spoiled it for me.
Absolute rubbish, not one redeeming feature. Don't waste your time.
Great expectations fall flat. Few funny moments and a lot tamer than the adverts and others had suggested.
Ted is a come to life Teddy with a potty mouth. That's the one joke in this movie. Unfortunately this one joke displays no wit. I lasted 10 minutes then turfed it. A grade dud.
Hilarious not what I had expected, fantastic.
So not PC and hilarious, this is a laugh out loud movie. Do not whatever you do let the kids watch this movie. It seems you either love it or hate it from the other reviews, We are definitely LOVE IT
Yes, Ted is a very rude and naughty little teddy bear, but I LOVED this movie! I hope there's a sequel, or maybe it should get its own TV series like Family Guy or American Dad.
A bit disappointing - some good laughs but not enough....strong rom-com tendencies.
Enjoyed this. Had been warned about the language, and lousy reviews, so was pleasantly surprised. My housemate and I laughed out loud at times.
What a vile, crass movie.... watched the first 15 minutes, turned it off and sent it back. Don't bother.
Take away the sex and the drugs, is a nice story.
I wont be watching it again or recommending it to anyone.
not for kids, but i loved it funny but rude in places
Quite clever. Funny. Light hearted...
Can Hollywood do any worse? Wahlberg is not Jim Carrey and surely doesn't need such mediocre work in his career so why doing it if not for $. A shame!
This was a thoroughly disappointing movie. The bad language was mostly inappropriate. Thought the premise had potential but was severly lost in this movie. Direction was appalling and lacking imagination.
Out of the box down right rude in parts .Not a kids movie. Some great cameos.
I enjoyed this movie but it didn't quite live up to the hype around it.
Worst movie I didn't even bother finishing this one waste of time.
This is like a twisted adult fairytale! We chose the unrated version. We laughed ALOT! It is rude and there is alot of swearing but it is hilarious mostly.
Sometimes Seth MacFarlane is funny and sometimes he is not. Sadly he missed it in this movie - Ted, the teddy bear, is crass, rude and unlikeable - John Bennett is a child, limited in common sense and self control. Everything that goes wrong, supposedly caused by Ted is really the fault of John. Why Lori hangs around I do not know, there was absolutely nothing endearing about the character John - he didn't even have Mark Wahlberg's normal good looks. This movie has a humour level of 12 year old boys but it definitely not a kids movie.
I'm a big Mark Wahlberg fan but this movie just wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. Some entertaining one liners but not much else.
Started off well but deteriorated very quickly.
I did not find this funny at all. Mark Wahlberg didn't even look attractive in it. The Ted voice just got annoying and it was stupidly crash and crude.
Hired this on DVD and sorry to say anyone with half a brain will NOT find this funny. Most of it is slapstick at best and yes crass and silly. Some funny parts but not enough to waste your time on. May have been funnier if watched with an audience in a cinema but not funny on DVD. Glad I didn't waste money and pay to sit through this!!!!
Beyond bad. Stopped watching in disbelief after 30 minutes.
i chose the unrated version as i am 'supposedly' an adult watching alone (does 54 yo count or is that just extended childhood??) anyway, i totally laughed all the way thru this, sooooooooo funny, but don't let the kids see this version, they are already badly influenced by 1001 different forms of bad media entertainment, they really don't need number 1002.............. still for adults with broad minds, this is great, very well done...................... & funny
Some very funny moments, but not enough to carry the length of the movie. The ending was predictable and sentimental.
extremely disappointed ib=n this movie and Mark Wahlberg
As a long-time fan of "Family Guy" and "American Dad" I was sorely diappointed. Crass, cheap humour for the most part, and far too much swearing (not that I'm a prude, but it was beyond ridiculous at times). There was scope for this to be so much better... you can feel the scenes resolving into something clever, then it's spoilt by a barrage of profanities and some stupid joke about vaginas. Keep in kind: this is NOT a kids movie. Only for purile adults.
Absolutely fantastic, one of the best comedy movies ever! Yes it was vulgar, very dirty humour and features drug use but what do you expect, you should expect this if you've ever seen Family Guy. Obviously this isn't for the Tea Party crowd!
Prepare yourself for politically incorrect jokes. There are some pretty funny cameo appearances as well.
I loved it
Just didn't do it for me. Some funny parts, but not sitting through to find them.
Saw this at the movies. Absolutely hillarious! Best laugh I've had in ages.
cannot wait to get this, watched it at the movies... AWESOME movie. predicable and fun!
Seems like it will be a great movie
