Finally I got to see what everyone was raving about and no- it did not disappoint! All the actors did a brilliant job...thought the daughter was annoying?? Well she was supposed to be! Some of these reviewers are ridiculous-flawed characters do NOT equal flawed movie. Beautifully shot and no useless filler in between, just a quick paced story that made sense. Entertained from start to finish.

Good, tight action movie. Because of good direction and film editing, the story is almost plausible and Liam Neeson actually seemed believable as an action hero. Very riveting movie - just don't think whether it's realistic or not.

What a load of rubbish. It seems Liam Neeson is impervious to pain and despite being pitted against career criminals, he seems able to dodge almost every bullet.

Heavy reliance on formula and very predictable, but regardless it is one very well paced thriller that really works. You root for Neeson the whole way and for that reason alone there's evidence that this film really really works. "Taken" may not be the smartest movie ever, but it's one heck of an entertaining time.

After watching several foreign films lately, going back to Hollywood just doesn't cut it anymore. Padded out with "action", no characterisation, situations that 100% of normal people would never survive, etc etc. This is just like all the American crime/thriller/action one hour TV shows that are inflicted upon us at an ever increasing rate, but it just happens to be 1.5 hours long and made for the big screen. Vacuous.........

This is a really brilliant film. For lovers of Eastern Promises and dark edge of your seat action then this is definitely a must see. Having said that, its very violent and the themes could be a bit hard to take for anyone who doesnt want to know about the dark side of humanity. Liam Neeson at his best !

stupid movie! Liam Neeson is usually someone I like watching but he clearly did this one for the cash. The movie was predicable and played into a number of racial sterotypes. it was gratiutitoulsy violent, and while I dont mind a bit of suspension of disbelief, this was utterly unbelieveable. it felt like it was made for tv. furthermore, the daughter, whose kidnapping was central to the whole film was annoying and unlikeable. good cast, bad movie

Disturbing! I watched this one after viewing 'Unknown' which I really enjoyed. I think I put too much 'real life' context on this one with having three daughters myself I found it made me angry & ill that there really are foreign men with too much money, such 'sick' ideas about women and such little respect for law & order and can so easily turn a blind eye to the evil in this world.
As far as just an action movie it had lots of guns, noise and car chases and Liam Neilson is always a brilliant actor.

Liam Neeson playing Steven Seagal type of characters and movie. Weird huh? Liam in The Schindler's list was on the top of his career and now he has to play in Taken! From the LUC BESSON team, you will have your dose of fights, explosions, jumps and more however Liam is no James Bond, you know it and I know it too. Is it bad? Not necessarily. Now if a guy who kills in Paris tens of bad guys, wounds some cops leaving the french capital in a big mess, can still go back to the US without any problem, if it doesn't bother you so well rent it and forget all logics. BTW, the end is as poor as it can be, the scene "So you want to be a singer.."what a laugh. My opinion: Get The Transporter instead.

A surprisingly good solid thriller. A touch implausible plot however Liam is very good and the movie hurtles along at full speed. Be careful who you talk to when travelling! Recommended.

Excellent action suspense thriller. I recommend it for sheer entertainment. Liam Neeson is great in this film. It's full on baddies versus goody drama from start to finish. I always have a giggle to myself about how people like Liam's character can do it all so efficiently with no sustenance or sleep! Realism goes out the window with these types of genre. Let's not let plausability get in the way of a good story.
Get it out and enjoy action packed entertainment!

The setup was ridiculous and unbelievable and there was zero humour which would've helped a la the Transporter movies. Even James Bond wouldn've gotten away with some of the things Neeson did. But he is a good actor. The daughter was a screeching pain in the neck and I wanted her dead by the end.

Slow to start - but then it's Jason Bourne 1 (for setting) with Jason Bourne 3 (for pace) with early Steven Segal for big bloke wading into and mowing down the baddies (lost track of the body count) - even to the point of a knife fight! Switch off and enjoy!

I thought I must have been alone in really disliking this film, but after watching it and then double checking against critics who I trust and admire, came to the conclusion that I was just not having an "anti-hollywood" spasm as usual. The plot is ludicrous !! One coincidence is extremely believable, two acceptable, three suspicious, but when the whole movie revolves around coincidence I can no longer suspend belief. The plot has more contrivance than La Gioconda by Ponchielli, the heroine in which happens to stumble into a room in a mansion during a party to which she has not been invited and miraculously find the antidote to the poison that threatens to kill her lover.....Taken had even more unbelievable situations. Liam Neeson is an extraordinary actor and it was obvious that he had to invest a large amount of preparation to do all the action sequences, I just hope he got paid a huge amount of money....I had to watch the end just to make sure it finished the way I predicted...ho hum. And by the way, just how did they both get back to the USA? Silly question, no one was writing any script so they just did.

Why do I like films like this one and Dirty Harry? Because I get so sick of hearing cases where police are unable to make a case against a bad nut because getting the evidence would come up against his human rights, or where bad people cannot be prosecuted because of some technicality. Because I would like a system that still gave everyone a reasonably fair go, but worked a hell of a lot better.

I love Liam Neeson so much I named my son for him. He's only okay in this - too much trying to play the hard man when others do it so much better. Okay as an action film - a bit too violent without the light-heartedness of the Die Hards.
Not dreadful, but a stupid premise (who would let their 17 year old daughter go to Paris alone without checking every detail?)

Imagine what would have happened if they'd parachuted Harrison Ford into this movie? Oy. Instead Luc Bresson serves us up Liam Neeson, who channels Jason Bourne very effectively, without all that annoying identity angst. Good plot twists throughout, the pacing fast and relentless, the body count satisfyingly high. And no subtitles. The mark of a true film maverick.

No chick flick & not for the faint hearted, (human trade) although my wife stayed throughout but my daughter (30) was horrified and left. End was a bit corny and the script has some holes in it. If it was to be a classic like The 3 x Bournes' movies more 'explanations' should have been included in the script. Overall a movie that stays with you for days wondering how real the human trade is as depicted. Great to see so many 'bad guys' get their lot! ... Highly recommended.
