Love is what it's all about!Shirley MacLaine gives one of her greatest performances in this spectacular musical based on Neil Simon's smash Broadway hit. Director Bob Fosse broke new cinematic ground with this freewheeling, visually stunning story of a lovelorn New York dance hall hostess, Charity Hope Valentine, who dreams of old-fashioned romance but gives her heart to one undeserving man after another. MacLaine joins all-star cast members Chita Rivera, Sammy Davis Jr., Ricardo Montalban, and Stubby Kaye in belting out thirteen vibrant Cy Coleman - Dorothy Field's numbers including 'Big Spender', 'Rhythm of Life', 'There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This' and the show-stopping 'If My Friends Could See Me Now'. It's an unforgettable production of an all-time classic.

It's a bit long and not that interesting... worth it for the Hey Big Spender number at the start.

The dance sequences are the best part of this film; especially the nightclub scene with the smart set at The Pompeii Club - absolutely brilliant - it was like seeing Warhol's Factory Superstars come to life!! The Fruge should definitely make a comeback!! Bob Fossey was a genius!!

What a classic! Completely surreal. Shirley's singing doesn't quite match up to her fantastic dancing and the ace choreography. Worth watching just for the hilarious lift scene!

Sweet Charity comes across as sadly dated these days largely because of its swinging sixties sensibility. Some great songs but far too long.

Magnificent choreography, beautiful singing of songs which have many of them become evergreen popular classics. Though a tragicomedy, there is a lot of life philosophy embedded in it. Brilliant colours, top quality actors, a very enjoyable movie.

I haven't seen this since 1970 when it was first released. I loved it then, and I love it still. It's worth it just for "Big Spender" and "Rhythm of Life" - absolute classics, with that energetic 1960s choreography. And Shirley Maclaine is so good in this. Very enjoyable.

Great fun with terrific songs - "Hey Big Spender" is a classic! - & the dancing was fantastic. What great legs on Shirley Maclaine, Chita Rivera & Paula Kelly, & they know how to use them.
