Strong bloody violence

Director: Tim Burton
Actors: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Sacha Baron Cohen

Never Forget. Never Forgive. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton join forces again in a big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical thriller Sweeney Todd. Depp stars in the title role as a man unjustly sent to prison who vows revenge, not only for that cruel punishment, but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, Sweeney Todd becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who "shaved the heads of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard from again." Joining Depp is Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney's amorous accomplice, who creates diabolical meat pies. The cast also includes Alan Rickman, who portrays the evil Judge Turpin, who sends Sweeney to prison and Timothy Spall as the Judge's wicked associate Beadle Bamford and Sacha Baron Cohen is a rival barber, the flamboyant Signor Adolfo Pirelli.

Lots of blood. Very graphic in the slitting of the throats. Catchy songs that are easier to listen to than the original stage version (Still love the original, just not a fan of operetta) but if you don't like musicals that are about 80% singing, it's not for you. Personally, I loved every second.

Depp and Carter, as I've said before, are the best on screen duo yet. The movie tells of betrayal, lost love and revenge. It's dark and yet uplifting at the same time. The songs, as morbid as the lyrics are, gave it a happy feel. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have watched it a few times already.

Thoroughly enjoyable as musicals go. The atmosphere worked great, and the characters were wonderful to watch also, would recommend especially if you're a Johnny Depp enthusiast! Probably not one for the little kids, as there's plenty of throat slitting blood!!!

Bad Bad Bad! I love Johnny Depp I think he is a great actor and very versatile! This has to be the worst movie I have ever seen him in. I had to FF through the singing, I could not bear it!

A bit more graphic than expected. An interesting tale of love denied, revenge, and deranged behaviour.

In the first five to ten minutes I was going to turn this off! But I stuck with it,I'm so glad that I did! Johnny Depp was fantastic,he brought the barber to life - he always gets right into character and this time was no exception. This has to have been the bloodiest, goriest film I've ever seen! And it's a musical! The songs were nothing memorable but the movie certainly was. Will probably watch it again at some stage.

I think it a very good presentation of a rather poor musical. Not one song from it was memorable. Depp is good, but not great with his voice sounding too much like Jack Sparrow. The story was not fully resolved and the 'shock' revelation at the end lacked impact. Very few of the characters have any depth, though this is typical in a musical. In short, I would not watch it again.

I enjoyed this light-hearted but bloody musical about the demon barber of Fleet Street. Fantastic acting all round and the filming is atmospheric and gloomy. I give it 4 stars.

Do NOT watch this movie if you are of the full-box of tissues variety. Even Johnny Depp fans (who are used to the darkness of his films) may be surprised by this one - all my fingernails went! Although this movie has moments of sensitivity, lightness and humour, they are exactly that - moments. You will also need to love tomato sauce as it's not added just to taste! It's a very dark movie, in plot as well as visually, although the portrayal of the lower classes of London of the time is quite spectacular. Helena Bonham-Carter's performance is outstanding but one comes away with the feeling that Johnny Depp was just having a bit of fun. One wonders how he explains this one to his kids? Don't watch it for the music, the movie would have been better without it - see it at the opera instead.

Johnny Depp is once again a genius and capably suuported by the amazing Helena Bonham Carter. Beautifully filmed in a noir style, and the "Barber" scenes are so tastefully done that they are not as gory as once would have anticipated. A pleasure to watch

Not for the squeamish, Sweeney Todd is an exercise in slasher-cum-musical with Johnny Depp as the wonderfully brutal barber from Olde London Towne. Ironic musical interludes, great acting from a stellar cast (of particular note, Helena Bonham-Carter as the infatuated landlady) make this film an unforgettable experience. The closest shave you'll ever have...

Johnny Depp you are brilliant!! Not a big Helen Bohen-Carter fan but she is perfect in this role. Together with Tim Burton's unique film making was an enjoyable experience. The fakeness of the blood made the horror seens a bit humerous. Well worth a watch.

Didn't realise it was a musical till we switched it on - and that ruined it for both of us! Switched it off while he was still singing to his cut-throat razors! Guess I had better read a bit more thoroughly in future!

Delectably weird horror film musical that is above all, very different. Johnny Depp was great and Helena Bonham Carter was incredible. She was alluring in very dark sort of way. I found the cast's singing very good but the songs and music are not of a very high standard. I enjoyed this film but imagine that many will not and can understand why. Overall I'd recommend it.

Yeh, they sing in this, that's a major deal of the flick! I was thinking I may not like this, now I regret not seeing it on the big screen. Sweeney does get quite blood thirsty. Visually amazing, Helena BC is incredible (scary, but incredible). The young lad is great, Alan Rickman never disappoints adding another not so sweet character to his resume.

It took about 15 mins to get into the swing of this musical and the words/singing were made easier to follow by switching on the subtitles. Fine acting all round, a bit slow - but that's operetta for you!

This is probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It is unusual for Johnny Depp to involve himself in an area that he is not proficient in- singing etc. I do not believe the theme translated into a movie at all. NO STARS

I loved the singing duets of Sweeney and Turpin, just unusual! I can see why he wanted revenge, and then to see at the end what he did. I like Tim Burton's directing Johnny Depp in his films. It was freakish and ghastly and mesmerising at the same time. Well you'll just have to watch it yourself!

This was an amazing movie, Johnny was incredible - what can't he do! He choses his roles so carefully to show his different talents, in this one his original love for singing before he delved into acting. The cast were incredible, definitely worth a watch.

Dark and forbodding, and one tires of Tim Burtons continuing fasination of all things Goth, however, Depp and Carter fantastics as always...and the screen adaption was almost as exciting as the stage play. The suspense was worth the ride.

This clearly had Tim Burton hallmarks all over and fine job by Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter. Found some bits a bit tedious (the musical bits) but it was an amazing blend of pseudo saccharine musical and incredibly gory bits. Not for the squemish

Pure Art! It's one of those rare films that stands out from the rest. Music was fantastic! The acting and singing really shines and the story was great. However parts where very gory so I don't recommend this for kids or the faint-hearted. But it didn't really detract from the story or presentation.

This movie was at first teeth clenching and dull, but as soon as it got into it, I was amazed by how well thought out and traditional it was. The gore was not exploitative, and the acting was great. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter again were fantastic together and the singing was great. I don't usually like musicals but this one was outstanding.

As a long time Burton fan I was looking forward to this. However I was very disappointed. This is perhaps Burton's weakest effort yet. The movie is boring, ponderous and the songs completely charmless. Part of this may be the fault of the musical itself of which I have not seen rather than the film. If you are intent on watching it if you are not enjoying this film after 15 mins give up it does not get any better. Avoid.

We have seen Sweeney Todd on the big screen it was fantastic, I would recommend it to any Johnny Depp fan and Helena Bonham Carter was outsatnding as mrs Lovett. The setting was brilliant Tim Burton outdid himself with this one. A tale of misjustice and revenge with a sad outcome. Both Johnny and Helena sang throughout the film, there was alot of singing in it but it showed what talented actor(s) these people are as they had to learn to sing for the roles. Some great cast well done!!
