Director: Dario Argento
Actors: Udo Kier, Miguel Bose, Stefania Casini, Jessica Harper, Flavio Bucci, Joan Bennett, Alida Valli

Argento's masterpiece of horror, with its assault of garish colors, booming soundtrack and horrifically dreamlike set pieces, is the cinematic equivalent of an exceptionally scary fun house. It tells the story of Susan (Harper) a young, impressionable American who travels abroad in order to study at a prestigious European ballet academy. From the first day, however, she begins to realize that frightening things are afoot at the hallowed institution. Enduring a rain of maggots, poisoned food and other unpleasant occurrences, she discovers that the school is a secret convening place for an ages-old witches' coven. Cut to various lengths due to violent content, the film's original full running time is 100 minutes.

This movie is almost comical in a way... you have to ignore the script and acting and not take it seriously to enjoy it. The sets, photography and music are the best things about it, also do not expect it to be scary unless you are 5 years old (and a 5 year old shouldn't be watching it!)

Horror movie comes out of a painting! Just ignore acting and storyline. The delight of Camera angle, music, sound, lighting and brilliant colors makes this artistic horror movie an absolute unforgettable vision. Favorite scenes: Airport sliding door, shadows at the plaza, spirit flies over dance floor and central character in "iris" room.

I honestly cant beleive how overrated this movie is. Ok, I know that "in its day" it was supposed to be a horror masterpiece, but it wasnt scary at all, but what really makes me upset is how overrated it was. I built myself up for this movie prepared to be horrified, but I wasnt in the slightest. The ONLY decent parts in this movie were the girls death during the beginning, and the blind dude being chomped to death by his dog. The Tagline reads "The only thing more terrifying then the first 92 minutes, is the last 12" The last 12 minutes were just a girl running around and fighting with a witch, not scary. I dont know if its this movie, or if Im just too jaded, but I honestly dont see how anyone can find this movie "scary" 1 Star.

It's official now a full fledged Dairo Argento fan. Suspiria takes itself more seriously than Deep Red, still a wonderful discovery in a genre I thought I'd all but tapped dry. Well remastered and worth a look.

On watching this again I see that I was greatly exaggerating. It's pretty average. But it does have some alright bits that make it worth watching if you like this type of movie.

I am a huge fan of Argento and loved Deep Red and Sleepless. I really enjoyed this film. It is rich in weird colors like a fairy tale and has a beautiful lead actress who is likeable and has an air of innconce about her. What stopped it being brill is the friday the 13th style "hide the killer" who had me seriosly qustioning events in the film of whom killed the 3 victims. A lot of the film is left to the imagination of the killers going ons behind the scenes. Plus some questions are left in the air Why the razor wire in the one room? Who in the trunks that attracted the maggets? (watch closely with the brightness up and frame by frame you see a head an arm and part of a foot with the maggets its kinda like a bizare stare at the picture to see what within it). Worth seeing esp the 1st 15 mins that scene with the window was nasty (I bet NONE of you mob could look at those without showing fear its impossible).

An oldie but a goodie.Great camera work..soundtrack by the Goblins(same people who did "Deep Red"..Brrr...)..good story.Made my wife jump! One of Alice Cooper's favourite horror films..MOJO magazine rates the soundtrack at 10 out of the Ten Best horror film soundtracks.("Deep Red" is more creepy I think.) Good Stuff.

Every time I watch this movie I am always astonished. It is like a horror version of Alice in Wonderland. Don't think about the story, just enjoy the photography, the superb use of the colours, the ambientation, the music. Every scene is a masterpiece, especially the one in the swimming pool!
