Boasting a fantastic cast and an excellent script, this is a smart and delightfully sweet film about love, loneliness and getting by with a little help from our friends.

A unusually movie however very likeable and easy to watch.

Very enjoyable, evenly paced intriguing movie about life, friendship and the need to be by yourself. Not your typical hollywood movie (or ending!) at all. Strangely compelling. 4 stars.

this movie was bizarre and i kept hopeing something was going to happen but nothing did..... i read the reviews and hoped for more, but nothing eventuated.

I usually like these poignant obscure movie genres but for me this was bizzare and hard to watch and as deep as I can get in to my soul....I thought this movie was ordinary to say the lease.....a genuine struggle..both for the story line and me.

To be left alone is not easy to achieve is perhaps the message of this movie. It's an odd film, with at times very short sequences that seem quite pointless. But maybe they just add to the overall laconic mood and feel. Unfortunately the story goes nowhere and the ending is particularly poor.

Agree with all of the reviewers, a great little film. Well worth watching and quite captivating once it got going.

A gentle, humerous and touching movie about life and how we're all just trying to get through it with the help of friends, often unlikely ones.

A sweet little movie, about different people becoming friends when they least expect it.

This strange little movie is a big surprise. The characters are very nomal people, though each is a misfit in their own way. It's about friendship, being there for friends and leaving them alone when necessary.

Lovely indie film about a lonely dwarf (Peter Dinklage) who inherits an old station house in New Jersey. He becomes involved with 2 other loners and unlikely friendships form. Dinklage is superb as is Bobby Cannavale but the film belongs to Patricia Clarkson. She is always very good. In this, she is brilliant. Recommended to serious moviegoers.

This was not at all what I was expecting. Perhaps that makes a movie that you enjoy seem even better. A misanthropic main character inherits an isolated train station building and is forced into relationships he doesn't desire. A really sweet movie with a surprising amount of quiet chuckles about three unlikely friendships although all three characters do share a common bond, even if it is not overtly the reason for their liaisons. I really enjoyed this and watched it more than once.

Finn (Peter Dinklage) is the repairman in Henry's model train shop, The Golden Spike. But Henry is a chain-smoker and he drops dead one day. The shop and its contents are sold, and Finn is out of a job, but Henry has left him a plot of land a mile or so from a small rural town in New Jersey called Newfoundland. When Finn goes to inspect it, he finds a single-line railway runs through the property and an agent's office right beside the track. The inside of the building is rather like a stationmaster's office, complete with ticket box, a comfortable couch, sink and stove. Finn makes himself at home. Being unusually small he is often made fun of and keeps very much to himself, so when Joe (Bobby Cannavale), a friendly Cuban immigrant, who parks his coffee wagon nearby, calls on him and offers him a cup of coffee, he politely declines. Joe has few friends too, spending all his free time looking after a sick father, so he persists with Finn and it's not long before he joins him trainspotting. Finn also meets Olivia (Patricia Clarkson), an artist living in the town, who nearly runs him over in her 4-wheel drive. He won't accept the lift she offers, so she turns up at his place with a bottle of bourbon and they settle down for a quiet evening. It's not long before all three are out trainspotting, drawn together by their individual loneliness. This delightfully quirky movie, despite its dark side, has a lightness and genuine charm. Very little movement of the camera emphasizes the peacefulness of the setting, as if time stands still as we get to know the characters. The varied soundtrack, closer to folk than country, matches the story perfectly.

Unsentimental, but heart warming Thomas McCarthy’s quirky and original tale of the importance of friendships is a comedy-drama winner. A trio of oddball outsiders find comfort in one another in, of all places, an unused train depot in New Jersey. They are train enthusiast Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage), a dwarf, Joe, an insecure, but talkative Latino roadside food vendor, and Oliva an angry divorcee artist. Dinklage is outstanding as the stoic loner beaten down by peoples’ perceptions of his small stature life, but who angrily breaks out of his shell. We know the film’s message before it starts: people shouldn’t be judged by superficial observations. In a most entertaining way TSA shows us that stereotyping can cause emotional distress. Four and a half stars.

teaches you to look past the external and enjoy what people really are. shows the life of a truly original man in a truly original script. well worth watching and as all other reviers have stated, leaves you with a good feeling of friendship and a warm heart.

An extremely simple story of friendship that is far more endearing that one might think. It was a little slow to get going but once it did, I couldn't stop watching.

No thought required. Characters grow on you as their friendships develop. Unlikely people becoming friends. Makes you consider where friendship begins and ends.

One of my favourites- subtle and moving- i love watching the characters and players in this film. the main three are fantastic- that girl from dawsons i dont like but even she couldnt mar this film.

starts off a little slow but is worthwhile perservering as it is a lovely movie highlighting the important of good friendships

The first half in particular of this excellent little indy are drole and fun and emotionally involving. If the second half staggers a little, it's only because it has to resolve the story ... Lovely memorable show.

This film left a lasting impression... Wonderful characters, moving, yet not overly sentimental.

Hard to get started, but then a touching story about 3 very different individuals, shame the end was so sudden.

The station agent is a movie that not everyone will like but it has a warm acceptance to it. Friendships are important and this movie has three people with completely different personalities that form a bond together just out of everyday living.. I love the script and people who will enjoy this movie will remember it for the rest of there lives. Smile and enjoy. I look forward to Thomas Macarthey's next movie..

Simple story line but very engaging characters. Warms the heart.

A moving whimsical story of friendship between three totally different characters, one being a dwarf train spotter.

What an original film. It emphasised the importance of friendship and that people who seem to have nothing in common can rely on each other in times of need. A sweet, emotional and heat-warming film. A must see!
