A fun fantasy with enough original ideas and understated humour to make it interesting. Nothing inspiring, but leaves you with a smile.

This started off great and then became very ordinary by the end. Excellently casted (Robert De Niro and Ricky Gervais were wonderful surprises) and the appearance of the movie is enough for me to want to watch it again, but the ending was so anti climactic, it just fizzled out instead of with a bang. Still, definitely something I'll watch with my kids one day because of the wonder and eclecticism. But for adults, these qualities may have spread it too thin to be engaging.

In a quaint medieval village called Wall there is a long stone wall that surrounds a magic kingdom. The entry from real to magic is guarded, but one daring human crosses through to the magic land. Nine months later a baby boy is delivered back to the man, safely returned to the real world: a souvenir of his one-night encounter with an enslaved magic princess. The rest of the story unfurls as, eighteen years later, the grown half-real half-magic son returns to the magic side of the wall, to hunt for a fallen star. This is a massive fairy tale, with much darkness, as princes murder their brothers, witches seek immortality, and a magic kingdom waits for a new king. Meanwhile the young man captures the star (a beautiful maiden), and encounters a ruthless pirate crew, and flee deadly witches, and so on. Think of a cocktail of "Harry Potter", Grimms' fairy tales, and Terry Pratchett.

This is a good movie, without being great. It has a fabulous cast and they obviously enjoyed themselves making the movie. Like most fairy tales it's fairly predictable but that is probably why it was so much fun, because you know nothing bad is going to happen to the main characters. Enjoyable!

A charming little story in the traditional fairy-tale style - no real surprises. But... oh dear, oh dear, can someone please tell Mr De Niro that he can't do comedy at all... and heaven knows how many film we've had to put up with him trying to do so... I can think of half-a-dozen straight off. Apart from that... all OK

Painful. Unlikable characters, slow, scrappy plotline and no depth. I love fantasy stuff but was hugely disappointed in Stardust. There were a few high spots but not enough and I struggled not to hit the FF button.

This was the perfect fantasy film. It had romance, witches, warlocks, evil vs good, villains, creatures etc. I wish they made more films like this. The screenplay is very well adapted from the novel, the acting is superb, the special effects are very creative and some even shocking. I would recommend this film to any fan of the genre. I do think it was probably border line on getting an M rating too. One of the better films i've seen in a while. I gave it 4 out of 5.

Good family friendly fantasy. A star falls to the ground in a magical land, where witches and evil princes each conspire to obtain her for their own ends. Amusing characters and imaginative use of magic, good for older children still to young for Harry Potter.

I liked Stardust. It was a very nice lovely film. It was an enjoyable film and one I would probably watch again. Robert De Niro was so funny in his role as the cross dresser sort of pirate. Clare Danes was lovely in her role as the fallen star. Michelle Pfeiffer was very believable in her role as the demented witch that wanted beauty and would stop at nothing to get what she desired.

Stardust is truly an international effort, a very different fantasy film that is extremely well cast and superbly written. DeNero plays a character unlike any he’s ever portrayed before and he does himself proud injecting action, suspense and the perfect amount of humour. My expectations for Stardust were high though I wasn’t sure quite what I was in for, but this film did not disappoint, as fantasy adventure goes this is one of the best. Check it out, there are a lot of surprises almost all of them pleasant.

A pure piece of escapism which actually surprised me... Loved the characters and the cameos by just about everyone - Michelle Pfieffer the evil witch, Robert De Niro the camp ship's captain and Rupert Everet with his tragic ghostly brothers. The movie perhaps went a little too long but thoroughly enjoyable and well worth a second or third watch...

Great fun. It is nice to see something for the family - provided the kids aren't too young. The witches are fairly disgusting in their habits! Robgert de Niro as a cross-dressing pirate and Michelle Pfeiffer deteriorating into an old crone are the standouts, but all the cast are good. Nobody takes themselves too seriously, which is the secret of good comedy.

This movie is such fun! It's the middle-ages and we follow the adventures of Tristan, his father and mother, witches, numerous dead pretenders to the throne, some pirates and of course - the star. Throw in an unlikely cross-dresser, witches spells that unravel (we witness the effects of gravity - hilarious!) plus lots of other magic and that's what we end up with - sheer magic!

This was my favourite movie of 2007 - it just had everything - action, romance, suspense - and a cast of diabolical, devilish, hilarious and beautiful characters from the misunderstood cross-dressing pirate captain (DeNiro) to the vain and bloodthirsty witch (Pfeiffer). While the cast was amazing, it was the small details which really made this film for me (like the fact that the Prince's blood was blue). Gaiman knows just how to take fantasy to the edge of absurdity and then bring it back again, the result being thrilling, hilarious, spectacular and breathtaking.
