funny movie - good bit of wit
Cute boys coming of age movie. It was light and easy to watch. I did laugh out loud a couple of times and John Cleese played an understated role. It showed that being a kid and growing up is hard no matter where you live.
enjoyable movie, could have had more of John Cleese, good cast
What a great movie. Wasn't expecting to much but very surprised. Easy to watch movie.
Good. The story was entertaining for me.
Great movie well worth the effort and John Cleese is brilliant
Worth a watch, would have been nice to see a bit more of John Cleese though.
I can relate to the boarding school going's on.
True to life.It won't disappoint.Worth a watch.
Troye Sivan has an excellent voice.
Didn't like the bullying even though the final outcome, end of the year, made a turnaround. I know it exists but dosent make it right in the real world or in a movie. wHY DO WE HAVE TO PROVE OURSELVES??????????? However well acted. Loved the music.
I remember the old school yard , Some good times, some bad times . Very much like this movie . Enjoyable .
Thoroughly enjoyed by the teenage 14 year old boy. Could relate to much of the storyline.
We LOVED this movie - funny, sad, romantic.....
What a wonderful surprise! Touching, funny and insightful. John Cleese was outstanding, but Troy Sivan who played the lead role was amazing as a young man in his first year at an all boys boarding school. We watch him begin to grow into a young man, and how the peer pressure from the other boys and the young ladies in his life influenced him. Fantastic movie - thank you.
Nothing new here, just a Mr Chips type re-hash, but very underwhelming and predictable. One of hundreds of coming of age stories but this one is pretty ho-hum and lacks guts. John Cleese must have been glad to put this one to bed. Try "Submarine" if you want something intelligent in this genre.
My 15 yo daughter's favourite movie (and book/s - she's not a reader normally). My partner and I enjoyed it too. Excellent acting.
Fabulous movie about a year in a boys' boarding school for a 13-year-old runt of a kid. While it might be South Africa in 1990, it could easily have been a school in England a century earlier. There are no mobile phones or computers to be seen. Oddly there is little evidence of South African accents, either. The story covers the tribulations of a kid who's bullied to an extent, but still joins in the antics of his adolescent room-mates, discovers classic books and hot girls, and learns about the joys and sorrows of life. John Cleese is wonderful in his role, and hasn't done nearly enough movies in his career, but he explains why in the Q&A session on the DVD.
