Original concept, I liked the film and watching the monster evolve but... the ending kinda sucked.
On the cover is the character Dren, created from their slicing. Strange psycho science drama. Good try but misses the mark.
This is very much a modernised Frankenstein of sorts with DNA instead of gothic fantasty. Well acted and directed and the effects are amazing but it does drop logic at times and resorts to monster on the loose near the end like it didnt know which way to jump but excallant and def worth seeing.
Bizarre. Incredible. Mind boggling. Freaky. A look at what can come out of the mud of DNA when nature pulls and pushes internal biological levers. Egg. Worm. Cocoon. Butterfly. We see evidence of nature's great transformations all the time. And this movie takes transformation to one of theoretical millions of next levels.
The concept of Splice was good, splicing human DNA and cloning near human "creatures" with it, but Splice just didn't seem to be able to deliver.
It did touch on some of the disturbing consequences of what may occur if scientific ability is pushed way beyond moral boundary however parts of the film were unnecessarily grotesque. As the film neared the ending Splice felt rushed, didn't really "fit" the plot they had tried to construct.
A fantastic concept, but they didn't make it work too well in this movie
I generally like wierd movies. Although this movie was pretty wierd it was also just boring. Nothing really happened.. I kept waiting for it to get to the point and then the movie was over.
not bad movie but could have done better....
Sick, no story, just mutilation for the sake of being different. I mean I don't mind a bit of blood and guts if the story asks for it but this one had no story to speak of. Just mindless rubbish. No plot there is nothing good about this movie.
I wouldn't say this is the worst movie I've ever seen but it comes pretty close... But I just couldn't look away!
Truly awful plot and acting.
I really enjoyed this movie, it's not something i would normally watch but couldn't turn away from it, it had me in!
Well worth a watch, interesting!
I've always adored Biology back in high school so this science fiction/horror flick was perfect for me! Makes you think about moral issues etc etc. The visual FX was top notch. However, in terms of storyline some places were weird and distasteful, otherwise this could've been a perfect 5/5. I would recommend it!
The best of the horror/science fiction genre always questions conventions set by society, explore taboo subjects, manage to tell the story in a unique way, and always provoke a response from the audience. This movie delivers on all counts. Strong character performances from Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody, make it possible (at least for a little while) to suspend disbelief and ride the wave until the shore. The CGI is believable and the monsters bite. Watch this one it's worth it.
I was fascinated by the unfolding amazing powers of the new life and I wondered at the limited way the scientist 'parents' dealt with her... crazy but interesting ending and it stays open for a sequel. All in all a very enjoyable, interesting and rather unique film.
Found interesting, not really horror...but actually quite sad...Well worth a watch
This is a movie with a great story, however it so needed a bigger budget to do the story justice, the acting was good, but the storyline was let down by the film maker having to compact so much into a small space. Areas where the theme could have been further explored were just blips on the screen and it really hurt this movie. I would say ok to watch but wouldnt recommend to a friend and would like to see a remake with bigger names and maybe over 2 films so that the subject could be as interesting as it should be.
I really enjoyed this movie.
weird but does really get you engrossed .
Somewhat predictable and does not necessarily make sense (to me anyway) near the end. Not what I thought it would be.
Interesting premise for a movie - kind of a modern-day Frankenstein. But that's where the good comments stop. Dreadful acting (Brody
Two young rebellious scientists are told by their employers to halt groundbreaking work that has seen them produce new creatures with medical benefits by splicing together multiple organisms' DNA. They decide to secretly continue their work, but this time splicing in human DNA. I could have strangled Sarah Polleys character. A hard nosed bitch who will stop at nothing to get her way irregardless of the morality issues. Very disturbing because this could be really happening for all we know
What the hell has happened to Adrian Brody's career?
found this to be surpisingly good. not my usual type of movie.
I really liked this film. Even though it does push the moral boundaries I believe it should be watched. It just makes you appreciate the miracles of life and that we should not try to play god. If you are offended by sex with an alien, then don't watch it ;)
I have to agree with the last review, this is one sick and twisted movie, wouldn't watch it again of you paid me to. Morally its bordering on insest. Dont get this one its very weird.
This was the wiredest wove of 2010. I watched it for Adrien Brody as he is to some people very under rated. Ending was rushed and i was enjoying it untill the end, the last scene was a good strange twist in a sick way. There are alot of alian sex scenes which i dont need to see. so a good movie ruined by a rushed ending.
