A classic Japanese movie; beautifully made. Great animation and a thought provoking story line. Each twist in the story caught you by surprise. Easy to see why Miyaki has won so many awards.

The animation riveting good for adult viewing as the story line was absolutely fascinating it just kept you in suspense all the time. I really, really wanted to love this, but I just couldn't get into it. I found it a bit too slow. I've heard so many great things about it, so maybe it was just me... will try to watch it again in a year or so...

I enjoyed this movie, but obviously not as much as some of the other reviewers. I can understand what some of them are saying, but I found it a more strange than enchanting. The animation is excellent (almost water color like) and completely different to any Disney style animated movie. Not sure if kids would like it. Recommended!

An enjoyable movie with an interesting plot. It has imaginative visuals and is well animated. The english dubbing was at times a bit second rate but this can be overlooked once you get pulled into the story. A pleasure to watch from beginning to end and a must see for any anime or fantasy fan.

This movie was just amazing and had the whole family glued to the screen. Probably not suitable for very young children (under 5?) as some scenes are a bit scary. Unusual characters and unexpected situations keep you guessing about what will happen next. A a bit like a Japanese version of "Alice in Wonderland"...! Highly recommended for something different.

What a completely satisfying film. A narrative that pleases both children and adults and a creative vision that challenges and liberates the imagination. Miyazaki's worlds are always creative and Spirited Away's world is wonderful. A tip - watch the English dub if you must, but watch the film at least once in Japanese with English subs.

I had been wanting to see this for a number of years, as it is highly recommended. My husband and I both thought it was uninspiring and dull. We had watched Howl's Moving Castle previously and the whole family were spellbound by it. I was expecting a similar result with Spirited Away, alas, not so!

One of the greatest amines ever. I did not want it to stop. An incredible visual pleasure. A wonderful story about human nature told through a surreal and over the top dream experience. Complex yet simple. Peaceful yet tumultuous. The experience was more like reading a great book when you see in your mind the story unfold and you devour chapter after chapter till its read cove to cover.

This animated adventure story quickly captured my attention with its creativity and richly coloured vibrant images that include bizarre and fascinating mythological Japanese spirits. An excellent musical score heightens the action; positive environmental and morality messages are embraced. SA centres about a 10 year old girl, Chihiro, who initially, is a rather sullen brat but has to accept responsibility and learn some manners in a spirit world bath house to rescue her foolhardy parents and return to human society. I found the dubbed in dialogue (for USA audiences) too saccharine and juvenile for my liking, and would have preferred the original Japanese with subtitles. SA might appeal most to adolescents and lovers of comic book fantasy.

This is a brilliantly rendered and engaging tale of fantasy and magic, with various levels of meaning that will appeal to people of all ages. Miyazaki's version of the Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz stories comes with the usual excellent artwork, another beautiful score by Joe Hisaishi and some of the best storytelling and character development seen in movies, let alone in anime.

A beautiful adventure story which journeys through fantasy & everyday reality. Miyazaki's direction is flawless which allows the audience to become deeply emersed in the film to the extent that we forget we're watching an anime film. The protagonist ‘Chihiro’ finds herself stranded in a dangerous and odd world where spirits & magic are commonplace. ‘Chihiro’ must save her parents from an evil witch named ‘Yubaba’, luckily she meets a young man named ‘Haku’ who guides her through this odd realm. The score composed by Joe Hisaishi makes this feature just as superb aurally as it is visually. Spirited Away truly is a five star film.
