Recently abandoned by her cheating husband, Chloe (Florence Loiret Caille) and her two young daughters are spirited away to a remote cabin by her father-in-law, Pierre (Daniel Auteuil). Over the course of the night, Pierre shares an important secret with her - he reveals his love for Mathilde (Marie-Josee Croze), a woman he met 20 years ago but didn't abandon everything to be with, choosing instead a safe and more familiar path. Reflecting on his choice and its dramatic consequences, he attempts to help his daughter-in-law understand and overcome her pain - to show her that it's better to abandon yourself to passion than to live in a union without love. Adapted from the novel by Anna Gavalda, and directed by Zabou Breitman, Someone I Loved is an exquisitely told and heartbreaking flight of fancy. FRENCH LANGUAGE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Fine piece of classic French film craft, great use of subtle composition in the scenes and editing, quite sublime. Admittedly story is drawn out towards the end. Oh and it did have subtitles Kylie.

A somewhat contrived framing device, but once we're past that, a layered, complex and very moving story. A young woman's father-in-law uses himself as an example to convince her not to break her heart over someone who's left her. Auteuil, as always, superb.

The movie was extremely poor as you had no subtitles and when it did it was for a few words only.

Average French drama. I found the relationship between the father and daughter-in-law a bit unusual.

After 30 minutes, I had no idea where it was going to as it looked like the movie was over or was going to bore me to hell but that wasn't the case. An overal good movie once you keep watching after the first 30 minutes, thanks to Daniel Auteuil.

Interesting and reasonably entertaining. Hard to believe she was attracted to him though.
