Based on an allegoric historic encounter between white settlers and the cheyenne indians of the west, soldier blue is a violent drama which enacts the struggle of a us soldier named honus gant and a white woman named cresta who has been captured by the indians two years earlier. They are the only survivors of a slaughter committed by cheyennes on a cavalry group. The pair is hoping to stay alive until they reach the nearest army outpost. As they travel onward, honus shows a growing affection for cresta but he has problems with her beliefs as she has more sympathy for indians than for the us government.
