Director: Steven Soderbergh
Actors: George Clooney, Natascha McElhone, Jeremy Davies, Ulrich Tukur, Viola Davis

Superstar George Clooney turns in a stellar performance in this "brilliant sci-fi movie" (New York Daily News) from Academy Award winners Steven Soderbergh (2000 - Best Director, Traffic) and James Cameron (1997 - Best Picture, Titanic).
Aboard a lonely space station orbiting a mysterious planet, terrified crewmembers are experiencing a host of strange phenomena, including resurrected phantoms from their pasts. And when psychologist Chris Kelvin (Clooney) arrives to investigate, he confronts a power beyond imagining that could hold the key to humanity's deepest dreams...or darkest nightmares. Co-starring Natascha McElhone and Jeremy Davies, Solaris is "mind-bending!" (Rolling Stone).

Slow, pensive, and "psychological" does not automatically = good. Pretty much a wholly intellectual experience (and incoherent at that).

In part science fiction, in part psychological/love story, with a touch of philosophy. Deserves 3.5 stars!

This movie is not to everybody`s taste, but I found it interesting. quite slow, and requires attention by the viewer. Not many actors, but they are all good

Not usually a sci-fi buff I found George Cloony's performance a stand out. His support actors were great also. No many actors in this film but all are stellar. I find this film difficult to review because of the subject (the film deals with consciousness) but never the less well worth watching for the thought provoking ending.

The cinematography is at times, deep and wonderful. The ending romantically poignant. I forgot Clooney was clooney, and not in a good way I think. Stirred up a feeling of the vastness of space and its' loneliness. Making the ending more ironic and infuriating. At least Whoopi Goldberg wasn't in there to make it worse.

The idea for the plot could have made a great movie, but it ended up in a slow boring film

*YAWN* Sorry? What? Oh that predictable boring movie with George “I can’t act” Clooney is over, now must go back to sleep where things are much better.

The storyline has more holes in it than a block of Swiss cheese. I've never seen a character throw off his role as quickly as Mr/Dr what'shisname does in this. I'm not sure what the point of this film was supposed to be whether god exists, what is alive, what is consciousness but it seems to come down heavily on the side that proclaims a blowup rubber doll is a better option than reality. It gets one star for the sound track because I'm a fan of a "Space Odyssey". Pity you can't mute the dialogue and listen to the soundtrack.

Finally a modern sci fi movie that does what science fiction should; stretch your mind, not put you to sleep with the latest in CGI. I can hear Arthur C. Clark and Isaac Asimov applauding this tale that walks a beautiful line between nebulous threat, opaque mystery and finally epiphany. George is truly excellent and the support cast inhabit their roles too. Don't even start this if you don't want to engage the gray matter.

While not as ponderous as Tarkovsky's film from 1972, this version is nevertheless unsatisfactory as well. I put it largely down to the unconvincing performances and poor ending (compared with the Russian film). A third version please.

What the??????? Absolutely no sense to this movie. Didn't know where I was half the time. Don't bother! Only good thing was George Clooney!

Be warned: 1) Nobody fires a gun at any aliens in this movie. 2) Contains real acting.

Good performances from an excellent cast and expert presentation by Soderberg bring credibility to a fairly far-fetched plot. Interesting concepts and beautiful presentation, but engage brain first if you want a bit more from this one.

Its definitely different, no doubt about it. Don't expect lots of special effects, and this movie should be classified under "Romance"

An excellent and somewhat more western-friendly adaptation of the original Soviet film!

Not my kind of movie. Watched a bit over an hour of it and found it excruciatingly tedious and formulaic. That having been said, it may well be very enjoyable to lovers of this genre.

My flatmate thought it was the worst movie she had seen in a long time, but I didn't mind it. Slow moving yes, but it kept my attention throughout.

Stunning cinematography and a brilliant performance from Clooney and the gorgeous Natascha McElhone. It breeds a real sense of growing terror as the film progresses, although it does move quite slowly and takes persistance to watch. Not for those with short attention spans, but a rewarding movie if you can get into it. It was one of those movies where it left my mind racing and I had to sit and contemplate what had happened for a good 10 minutes afterwards.

This is a remake of an excellent and equally challenging russian film of the same name - based on the Science Fiction novel by Stanislav Lem. It takes a different path than the first film in choosing and exploring the major themes but is equally good in its own right. An exploration of what is reality - the nature of memory and the way it changes our perceptions and what is the truth.... I really liked it - a thinker's film. But if you like lots of excitment, special effects and bleeding veins dripping form the mutant maws of killer aliens this isn't the film for you.

This one's a snoozer. Only worth watching if there's nothing else on.

Not a patch on 2001. No wonder it bombed.

Excellent and interesting without overdoing the science fiction genre.

Could have been set anywhere, space will do I guess though. Watchable, although the missus was bored, she likes more guts 'n blood, I'm more of a thinking person! :-) I enjoyed it, thought provoking end, a bit 2001 Space Odyssey weird ending kinda thing!

An interesting insight into a woman's sole effort to reach her dream and goal. Where male dominance wins and the belief that yes there is something more out there gets swept under the carpet.

Actually better than i thought. Nice premise, a bit stronger than your usual what-if sci-fi boogeymen-in-your-head ghost story. Nice looking, of course.

Really boring movie. Not much for sci fans and not much for romance fans either. I'd have to say that this is one of the worst films I have seen recently.
