They bruise easily.

For the first time in 15 years, all four siblings in a family show up to care for their dying mother (Jeanie Drynan), who is only given a couple of weeks to live. One (Genevieve Lemon) comes from America with her two children. A divorced sister (Sacha Horler) also comes with her child and sneaks off regularly to meet a mystery man who may be her ex-husband. The third & youngest daughter is an unmarried nurse (Alicia Talbot) aware of her ticking biological clock. The only son (Russell Dykastra) chases after his grumpy father (Linal Haft) who seems to not care a whit about his wife's circumstances. The four are also faced my their mother's dreams to accomplish a few things before she dies - to visit a beach she had visited in the past, to see her youngest married, and to visit Paris. She also wants to be embalmed & be honoured with a 21 gun salute. Thus the whole group has to set off in the quest to fulfill their mother's wishes.

Eccentric mum is dying. Eccentric family gathers at their Port Kembla home. This movie didn't work for me. There were a couple of totally unbelievable scenes (the wheelchair at the beach- the nude father and son routine) that ruined this for me. Great performances from Jeanie Drynan as the mum and the, always reliable, Sacha Horler was commendably brave. Gratuitous foul language in the bikie mates scene was also a turnoff. Disappointing.

This movie is about the mum in a very disfunctional family dying and the family gathering around her. It is a frenetic ride but I enjoyed the ride and you might too . I recommend you take a look :)

Warm but unoriginal story with a nice script is complemented by good performances in what is a pleasant moviegoing experience, hampered somewhat by its very adult nature. Bowden?s company?s trial effort, "Parklands", was superior. Jane Campion was executive producer.

I gave this a 1 NOT because I wasn't intrigued by the story but am old fashioned enough to reject a story that contains especially obscene language.
